  3. Don't think making a bad or experimental album constitutes to losing it. U2 and Radiohead still sell albums in their millions. As for Genesis the best album they did for years was after Pill Collins departed the band. The album was called "Calling All Stations" with ex Stiltskin vocalist Ray Wilson. Too many of Genesis fans were really fans of Pill Collins pop music plc and would never give Ray a chance, yet with Ray Genesis sounded like the old band with Peter Gabriel 1/ Slick....They used to play some real rock in Clouds above the old apollo. Then burst into the charts with the biggest pish I have ever heard. 2/ Syd Barret lost it and never recoverd from it. 3/ Slade went to America at their peek and it was down hill for them never to recover as one of the UK'S biggest ever selling singles band. 4/ Take That.......A certain Rabbie Williams wild side came to the fore. Bye bye take that and the end for Take That. 5/ The Spice Girls....Gerry Hallliell
  4. Aye, I would put on my best dancin shoes for Dance,Dance,Dance yousa yousa yousa ! Great track all 12inches of Bernard Edwards thumping bass lines and Nile Rogers funky rhythm guitar. Rogers also was called in to produce a lot of top notch albums one of which was the excellent classic "Listen Like Thieves" by Inexs.
  5. Only opinions Kemp of which many are different and varied. If you grew up with Radiohead and they are the best for you then who am I to argue against you. I grew up mostly with 70s music where Pink Floyd grabbed you by the balls as did Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and many many more at that time. For me and this is only my view, Muse are an outstanding band fussing Rock, Punk, Dance and classical music together. Of course their are plenty who just here an almighty scream coming from Muse. However look further and the picture becomes clearer. I went along to the SSEC to see Muse after I purchased Absolution, coming away from the gig I knew I had just witnessed something very special that only comes along once in a while and I was proved write when Muse later that year picked up every award from MTV to NME and Q for best live band. They also picked up awards for innovation in their Music from Q. I have been going to live gig's since 1977 on a regular basis and for me Muse were not too far behind a Live Pink Floyd show. They are a great band. The Chili Peppers were also different in that the earlier albums were a heavy jazz rock. So Kemp your a Radiohead man, fine enjoy your music because their is a lot of shit in this world and sometimes it just great to escape into the world of music no matter who you like.
  6. I take it your joking here and if your not you need to broaden your musical horizons a little and i'm not talking Green day ether Hey Bongo, sure the Clash here a fine band but the best of all time tut tut. I can see you were a punkman. You did not frequent a Monday night at the Silver Thread by any chance. Aye these were the day's
  7. King Crimson, now were talking , kicked off in 1969 with " In The Court Of The King Crimson " true progressive psychedelic rock. If you like weird Radiohead one listen to Crimson and you will realize just how bad Radiohead were and more to the point, how the f**k they got away with it. Yes Radiohead can write some great music but they can also write the biggest pile oh keech. Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp has also been called into help out Pink Floyd on and off, say's it all really. Muse are the band who are coming out with a true new direction that has been sadly lacking in the past decade. However we can only coment in what our ears here because for sure there is thousands of bands out there we don't get to hear. Long live mags like NME who at least try to tell us I will hold my hand up and say that the new Coldplay album is not too bad at all. Coldplay on this new album have added more keyboard affects to their music than in past albums which in turn seems to give it a much bigger soundstage and the bass is being played in a more funky way.. When I heard the first single from the new album my reaction was jeez more of the same how very boring. Then at work I was asked to give it a listen because I was salging it off. Coldplay have moved on and I would say this is with out doubt their best album todate. I'd be so lucky NSS. I'm back in the northsea myself so no throwing hard discs ( Rolls to you ) overboard.
  8. To think a lot of there hits were in the 50s is quite incredible. Did any of you take in the Buddy Holly story at the Kings ? Me and the wife were up dancing Great night.
  9. Creedence Clearwater Revival and Brian Wilson, superb in the 60s they were well ahead if there time
  10. Thought it would be a good idea to pick 5 of your most influential bands from the last five decades, I found the 70s the hardest as there was just so much unbelievable amounts of talent about that I could have easily put down another five. I found the 90's the hardest as I'm not really into Brit pop Oasis, Blur , Charlatans Stone Roses I have albums from all these bands but they are not exactly ground breaking ( for me) Our younger members can pick their top 5 most influential bands which don't have to include the 60s and 70s. Happy Thinking. 60s 1 / Beatles 2/ Rolling Stones 3/ Doors 4/ Kinks 5/ Pink Floyd 70s The hardest for me to pick because this was the best decade with out a doubt. 1/ Deep Purpule 2/ Led Zeppelin 3/ T Rex 4/ Pink Floyd 5/ David Bowie 80s 1/ Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark 2/ Def Leppard 3/ Rick James 4/ Quincy Jones 5/ Pink Floyd 90s 1/ REM 2/ James 3/ Manic Steet Preachers 4/ Gun 5/ Pink Floyd 2000 1/ Muse 2/ Wilco 3/ Doves 4/ Badly Drawn Boy 5/ Elbow
  11. santaponsasaint One of my all time best albums is Straight Shooter, absolutely superb a real classic. The cover you use Bad Co is not to bad ether. In the late 70s me and a few mates went up to Glasgow Apollo to see Bad Co expecting to jump around to one of Rock and roll greats. Instead we got a full concert of really slow songs with a few songs at the end faster. Everyone in the Apollo was in there seats from start to finish. The first rock band I had seen where everybody was sitting in there seats from start to the end, weird or what , as sixteen year olds we thought we were going to jump about. The most boring concert I have ever seen was the same year at the Apollo. It was Don Maclean as I loved American Pie at the time. Ho man sleeping tablets or what. The wildest night at the Apollo for me was the Stranglers , now that was rock'roll. The Stranglers that night told the audience to kick f**k out of the bouncers.
  12. I still play Cd's and the big black bit of plastic. However my 10 year old daughter bought herself an iPod in the summer and her big cusin teached her how to down load. Anyway I was telling one of the boy's at work about this. ( As I can't down load yet ) Today this guy at my work gave me a Cd with the top 60 albums and covers on a cd for her to put onto the computer so she may down load what she wants. The top 60 albums. What the f**k is that all about ? I spend toooooo much on music every year and hear this guy gives me the top 60 ? Me thinks I need an MP3 player to catch up with everyone else and save a packet at the same time.
  13. A more modern one is..Give peace a chance by the same artist
  14. Just had a wee look what night Plant is playing, Sat 29th Oct ( sold out ) Not too botherd as me and the good wife have tickets for the NME gig with the Kaiser Chiefs , Maximo Park, The Cribs which should be good fun as I like all three bands add the fact it's a Saturday night when Saints are at Love st should make for a great day out
  15. what an interesting combination Plant and Mirror In The Bathroom which is a classic song in it's own right especially when Mr Plant gives the song recognition. I see Plant is in Glasgow soon, was it a good rock-and-roll night ?
  16. Your all their and a bit Howard. The Beat did have a sound that was a littile diffrent for the time. I also remember the Police were on TOTP'S and Sting had a Beat T-shirt on. By the way got draged up to Langs after the Clyde game. For sure we will have another time , im interested in your adventures and have yet to hear them at length
  17. Quite interesting reading through this post to see I have been lucky enough to see some of these bands. Queen I seen supporting Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson at the old Apollo , needless to say the support band blew away the main act by a big margin. Bongo has the Beat on his list. Have to admit to being a Beat fan myself so much so I bought a mobile Disco in the early 80's and called it the " Beat Machine " after the Beat. Great day's as I managed to do the disco thing for three years full time which = lots and lots of fun. Question when the lead singer left the Beat what did the band change there name to ? See below. Fine Young Cannibals some of the great bands I have seen seen Floyd, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac, Paul MaCartney and Wings, Abba, Dire Straits, David Bowie, Bad Company Quo in their Hay day. Thin Lizzy, The loudest band I have ever heard in my life is Def Leopard, feuk were they loud. Done my ears some damage , What ? So bands I have not seen and would have like to mmmmm ! 1/ Buddy Holly And The Crickets 2/ The Kinks 3/ Roy Orbison 4/ Bob Marley 5/ Lynyrd Skynyrd
  18. Today it's Rick James doing Street Songs, it being remasterd makes it sound like hearing it the firsr time fresh and funky
