  1. Does Willie Pearson still play for them?
  2. Is showing empathy for people who can't afford to pay £180+ for a ticket the same thing as condoning crowd violence? My point is that you probably put your family in more danger, it's up to the police to stop crime, not you. He is within his rights to tell you to mind your own business unless you hold a position of authority. Masks are for the protection of others, not the wearers. How effective they actually are is debatable but the theory is that they reduce the chance of those spit particles you mention landing on surfaces which are then touched by others. As long as he was civil about it, I don't see an issue with what he did. Scotrail staff and police are trained in how to de-escalate situations, they'll also be trained in how to ask someone to wear a mask without causing a scene - it doesn't help them to have others on the train get involved. As for masks - if you've got a medical grade N95 mask, or one of the decent paper ones that are thrown away after each use, it would certainly make a difference. The fact is that the average mask someone wears on a daily basis is just worn to achieve compliance to avoid the wrath of people like Faraway. It's probably not been washed in days/weeks - and likely to be full of bacteria. It's a ridiculous concept to insist that everyone wears a flimsy bit of dirty cloth over their face to make others feel safe.
  3. As much as I admire your stance as a Covid-19 stopping vigilante, it's really not for you (or other wannabe vigilantes) to start enforcing the law of the land. That's why we have a police force. The train staff can politely request that the guy puts on his mask, or ask him to leave the train at the next stop - but you have absolutely zero authority in that situation. If anything, starting an altercation is only increasing the chances that spit particles jump out of his mouth when he starts shouting at you - or even worse, other people getting injured when the pair of you start throwing punches. In future, I'd take your own advice, and back off.
  4. Don't you wear a mask to protect yourself? They could have a medical reason for not wearing one. They don't have to explain that to some stranger who starts barking accusations at them on a train / calling them a f**kwit
  5. He should have politely told you to mind your own business
  6. Not a huge fan of O'Brien but he was bang on with this
  7. You literally presented a source that confirms data isn't yet available I prefer data that contains data If there's less suicides and mental health issues than most would expect, that would be great. But to suggest that the risk isn't there is a wee bit naïve
  8. Yet to see the best of Brophy. Performances not quite what I hoped for thus far
  9. Where in England is Paisley?
  10. The mental health aspect to all of this is something that is being majorly overlooked. There's been a worrying amount of suicides I know of in the Paisley area alone, many in their 20's or 30's. Sadly I can only see the figures getting worse
  11. It seems a bit of a perfect storm The left wing / progressive / woke view seems to be that restrictions to save lives = good Now I do get that view. If we can stop people from getting ill and dying from a virus, we should 100% be doing that, but you've got to use some critical thinking to look beyond the bullshit and virtue signalling. You take a risk when you go food shopping, you take even more of a risk if you visit Primark for a pair of socks. Like you say, certain people have been given a wee bit of power, and they're enjoying it. Social media companies have never had more power than they have right now. My main worry is that this infrastructure has now been built - at an enormous cost, all of these new tools are now available It's going to be very very tempting for governments to use those tools - and that infrastructure. for other purposes, such as getting to net zero carbon emissions, or if they spot a spike of covid cases, or flu. Again, that's something that can be pushed through using woke/progressive politics. I consider myself somewhat left leaning, but I do wish that there was a bit more open debate and individual thought around what is actually progress, rather than just wanting to be viewed as a progressive person.
  12. One of those clubs I strongly dislike. Have always ripped our fans off. £22
  13. Short period of lockdown to protect the NHS Longer lockdown, we need to protect the NHS OK - the NHS is fine, but just another few weeks to flatten the curve until the vulnerable are vaccinated The vulnerable are vaccinated but just another few weeks, we're being cautious We know almost everyone is vaccinated but cases are still high Oh wait, it's almost flu season, further restrictions likely to continue over winter Climate restrictions set to be agreed at COP26 in November I fully expect restrictions to be the new normal, especially regarding travel
  14. It’s a lot, but it’s far from a majority that “sold football to Sky”. For example, there’s around 3.6 million millionaires in the UK. If you look at the crowd at Wimbledon - then look at the crowd at Wembley, you see a lot of the same faces in the good seats. I’m not saying it’s right that folk stormed the venue, but I can relate to why it happened. There’s a growing feeling that the super rich (or someone who has a spare few hundred quid to blow) are the only ones allowed to watch a big game in a stadium. The Premier League is similar. Stolen from the poor, given to the rich. The Super League nonsense from a few months back was the perfect example of that! I’d say a minimum price of £295 qualifies as eye watering
  15. Not true.. Only a small percentage of the UK population subscribe to Sky, I believe around 9 million when I worked for them, and an even smaller percentage in the UK have legal access to Sky Sports. Sky make the majority of their money from selling the rights to a worldwide audience. So really it’s been sold to the highest bidder by the FA
  16. Will they stop you going in if you're late for your timeslot? Often get away from work at 2pm on a Saturday
  17. Quite a lot to unpack with regards to England fan behaviour; On one hand, supporters rushing the gates was dangerous and could have ended very badly if someone was crushed by a fence when they kicked them down. However - I do believe that football has been stolen from the working class. (especially in England where money is king) Ticket prices for the final were eye watering. Far beyond the reach of most. Seen some online going for thousands The security was nowhere near up to scratch, so I can understand why it happened - can't be too mad about that The racial abuse of their own players is to put it bluntly - f**king disgusting, seems to be a real issue with that south of the border (and with fans of a certain club up here, who's views seem to align quite closely with the mutant section of the England support) The images from Leicester Square pre match were some of the worst I've seen, people throwing glass bottles into the air into a crowded area - whoever does that is quite frankly, an absolute dick, and if caught should be given a decent amount of time in jail. Could easily give someone life changing injuries doing that.
  18. My guess is that government will put pressure on private companies to maintain restrictions even after "freedom day" Possibly with some incentives thrown in
  19. One that might be a little more realistic.... Tyreik Wright - Aston Villa Irish under 21 international Can play either wing, impressed at Walsall last season. Plenty of assists and goals on his record Perhaps John McGinn can put a word in Ireland U21 winger Tyreik Wright rewarded with new Aston Villa contract (the42.ie)
  20. A lot of the time it's more about development than value. We can guarantee players a starting place in a competitive league, great track record of developing players. Besides, it's fun to speculate! If I was manager I'd be asking the question of every top club in England, might just get lucky like we did with Newcastle in 2013
  21. Always think the club are missing a trick by nominating a number 12. Number 12 should be listed as the supporters, doesn't cost anything and shows a bit of appreciation
  22. In fairness ticketing seems to be notoriously difficult to get right at low cost. The club could use one of the big companies like Ticketmaster, but would probably wipe out at least 1 player wage. As long as it gets sorted out before the start of the season I'm not overly bothered
  23. Looks tremendous - apparently Liverpool keen to have him playing regularly, hope we at least ask the question - exactly the kind of player we need
