I also saw 'The Sooty Show' with Harry Corbett as a boy, at Govan Town Hall I think, although it was certainly the golden era (pre-Sue).................. Sooty is/was a no user, but I give you the greatest puppet of all time, Paul Chalmers lookalike................ Sweep................. Howard Hughes in BlueSuedeShoes
I heard on (I think) Mark Radcliffe talk that Sweep was a female dug. Hence the whiny, squeaky voice going on all the time and Sooty being silent as he was the hen-pecked bloke. Then they brought in Sue. And a nice wee menage-et-trois, ahem, ensued.... EL NOMBRE
Bill & Ben. One of the funniest nights of my life was when me and my auld dad rented this watch with mother video from the video rental place one night. It was only a quid and the two of us were absolutely mangled. We put this tape on and the two of us started howling with laughter...especially at Bill and Ben as we had both watched it when we were kids ( obviously I got the re-runs ). He was laughing at me laughing at him laughing at us both watching this mince, which we both thought was the bees knees when we were kids. " Flobba..Lobba....Lob"...." Dibbba...dibbba...dob ".........." Ahhh...Ello....leetle weeed " Complete nonsense but ye lap that crap up when yer a wean.
