IF England fail to get past the quarter finals I think Southgate will get slaughtered for the players he didn't pick.

A reporter said today that England's performances seem not to be equal to the the sum of their parts, which seemed a very odd way of putting it.  He was partly right in that even with some very good players they  just don't seem to get what those players might achieve in another team.  What he seemed to miss was that there are some bang ordinary players and some pretty good ones who just happen to play alongside some exceptional non-English players in their club sides.   Bellingham took his goal really well and looked good for a while, his off the ball runs didn't inspire his teammates to play him in though, much of his play was huff & puff and maybe there was a certain reluctance on the part of others to bow to the rising superstar.  I think we saw the real Phil Foden last night.  You also wonder if there is anyone on the pitch who has as much, or possibly more, influence over the squad than the manager?  I also think Southgate was daft not to bring Rashford along as he is a game-changer when on form.
