  1. Wettest - B&Q Cup Final vs Falkirk. Once in the mid 90's we got let into the North Bank from behind the goals at half time due to atrocious rain but I can't remember who we were playing. Coldest - Midweek game in January 87 against Falkirk at Love St. Brrrrrrrrrr!
  2. Anthony Phillips - The Geese And The Ghost
  3. 1. The Rolling Stones - post Mick Taylor choosing Ron Woods meant a slide into mediocrity. 2. The Who - Should've quit before they got old. 3. Oasis - Mostly downhill since "What's The Story............", altho' I liked the last single which they pinched from the The Kinks. Nice to see they're moving on. 4. Bruce Springsteen - Where has all the fun gone? No great album since Nebraska. 5. Jim Morrison - What's he done lately?
  4. Shakespeare Alabama - Diesel Park West (recently reissued -what a cracker).
  5. Basic Plotlines Guy 1. Meets Girl (or mutated female beetle in post apocalytic society) 2. Saves World (with help of said female beetle) 3. Learns Better (or Grows Up) 4. Goes on Quest 5. Goes Home (or finds a home that he might not even have been looking for) 6. Gets Killed (and probably never had a chance to do anything about it)
  6. I'll say it loud and I'll say it proud! Colin M was first to mention James Brown. Please accept my apology.
  7. No mention of Chuck Berry, James Brown, Motown or Michael Jackson (altho' Quincy Jones got a namecheck). I'd also throw in Gil Scott-Heron even tho' his dad played for Celtic. Oh Yeah. I also meant to include Nile Rogers/Bernard Edwards of Chic.
  8. Kurt Vonnegut - Dropped the Jnr. as at 80+ years he's gotta outlived his dear old papa. Brought a touch of humanity to SF writing and always amusing. Robert Louis Stevenson - "Them that dies'll be the lucky ones" George Orwell - Big Brother IS watching you! Ray Bradbury - More than just science fiction. China Miéville - The best current SF author. King Rat, Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council & now Looking for Jake (just out: Sept. 2005). ******************************************** Close misses Philip K. Dick - Overlooked during his lifetime and died before Blade Runner was released as a film. Since then Total Recall, Screamers, Paycheck Minority Report have all been adapted. Mervyn Peake - Gormenghast Trilogy is superb, was dissapointed by the BBC adaption which treated it as a Austen/Bronte soap opera. Would've included him if he'd produced one other great novel. ********************************************** Most dreaded author - Gotta be J.K. Rowling. The first two Potter novels were OK but since then they've grown alarmingly large. At over 700 pages Book 5 was a real drag, Book 6 at 600 pages not much better. However the sprog likes 'em.
  9. Saw a lot of brilliant gigs there including The Who and Status Quo's first farewell tours! Ever sit in the balcony? Boy did that move, not for the fainthearted! Found a website dedicated to the Apollo!
  10. The Apollo...............mixed memories. Always thought the stage was a bit high and too many bouncers. If you stormed the front like I remember doing at some gigs - Stranglers, Motorhead etc you could hardly see the band but when the crowd was up for it, they were Crazy, Crazy, Crazy Nights!
  11. Have to say I'm a Christmas lovin' dude and that includes the music. I love Christmas singles (with the exception of Cliff Richards). As it's a Top Five here's some that haven't been mentioned wot I love and will happily sing along with. Lonely This Christmas - Mud I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard Stop The Cavalry - Jonah Lewis Last Christmas - Wham I Saw Mommy Kissin' Santa Claus - ? Oh and Chris De Burgh, file him with Sir Cliff.
  12. Sweden's finest collaborating with Steve Wilson. A great CD. Join 70's fetishist Bongo for an evening of recidivism or face the New Millenium with wax free ears!

    Top Fives

Ian Ferguson - vs Dundee Utd '87 Cup Final - Oooooooooh Yes! Dare I say -Simply the Best! Torfason vs Hearts around Xmas '89 - From a free kick outside the box after a Henry Smith error. Classy Goal. Classy Celebration. Gunni must have shook hands with about 100 Northbankers! Mcknight vs Ayr (April 2000) - Carnage inside the box, one cool head in Somerset Park. What a goal. Pity about the injuries! Murray vs Stirling Albion (May '98) - On the back of a dismal run where we fought our way into relegation trouble, this goal and the three points kept us up and prepared the way for the coming of TH. Hewitt vs Falkirk (New Year '94) - Final goal in 3-1 victory. Hewitt finished off after a Saints move of about 30 passes. Classy og from Bobby (Dazzler) Dawson for Falkirk's goal. Really cold day!
  14. Madam Ching, there's a future for you in the Astrology game or perhaps as a Medium. McB could be your familiar from the "other side". I've heard he's an Extra Large these days.
  15. there's an Alice Cooper album Zipper Catches Skin..... Once, years ago, when attempting to chat up a girl she asked what school I went to and then if I knew a certain teacher. After trashing this teacher said girl told me that teacher was her mother............... Oh to be quick on the uptake.
  16. Yeah. I'd recommend going to see Plant as IMO he's a great live performer. The new Album - Mighty Rearanger - is pretty good. Rocky (sic) with the occasional nod to Plant's eastern fixation. Avoided the scurrilous pun!
  17. Saw The Beat, Selector and The Bodysnatchers at a Ska Night at Strathclyde Uni. Also saw Robert Plant do a version of Mirror in the Bathroom at Newcastle Playhouse about 90/91. An odd combination but it worked, maybe the fact that Planty is a Brummie himself helped! Almost said Brum Boy but I knew where that would lead us.
  18. Doh! What an idiot, should've read the thread title carefully! Gigs I wish I'd seen. The Clash - Combat Rock, was going but Joe Stummer went walkabout. Led Zeppelin - BBC In Concert (1970) where they played material from Zep IV for the first time live, a few months before the album was released. When you hear Stairway, then then gap after it finishes and the audience realise they've just what they've heard. Sublime, what a moment. I've got the gig on CD. Bowie - Hammersmith '73 when he disbands the Spiders and retires. The Beatles - Jan '69; The Rooftop Gig. "Thank you, and I hope we passed the audition." Woodstock '69 - Just imagine me'n'Homer groovin' to ShaNaNa!
