Yeh, checked it out. Shearer scored 6 league goals in his first 41 appearances for Southampton. In his first full season as a regular he scored 4 goals in 36 starts.

Most of the appearances being substitute appearances... Alan Shearer scored 4 goals in his first season at Southampton and he started every game... I note that he scored against Sevco at Ibrox last season. A hero in my eyes already... Who knows whether he is any good but I wouldn't discount a young striker based on goals scored from sub appearances and irregular starts.

Indeed. I might be wrong but I think Boyd was the SPL's all time top scorer. He scored a load of goals for Killie in his previous 2 spells including just 12 months ago in a side struggling at the wrong end of the table. Putting all your cash on Boyd is a better bet than spreading it over Ball, Caldwell & Arquin.

This is definitely a position we needed a player for. Goodwin was our only defensive midfielder. You need at least 2, particularly if Goodwin us suspended or used in defence. I always hark back to the 80s but all the best sided had 2 hard working midfielders who got no praise and did the dirty work. Cooper & Simpson at Aberdeen, Kirkwood & Stark at Dundee Utd, Black & Berry at Hearts. Motherwell released a similar no nonsense player over 20 years ago. Did the dirty work, made the simple pass. He went on to join a second tier club, helped them win promotion then had a great top flight career. His name was Mark Reilly. Hopefully Carswell will be as good. At the very least he'll be a decent squad player with all the top flight experience he has. No risk signing, think this is ok.

No idea. I have no idea what type of football that the rangers played either to be honest. Most goals come from a regain of possession in the last third. Get the ball forward as often as possible and as quickly as possible, get players forward to win the ball. Its not about who has possession, its about where the ball is! Here endeth my discussion on this topic on this thread! Back on track, I am actually not sure I'd take Carey back again. Agnew is a left sided free kick specialist.
