  1. Eh doubt it, he knew who he did not want to keep. Why would you assume that releasing 10 or 11 players would happen while 10 or 11 named targets were also known? Danny simply knew who he did not want in his squad to be released or sold. He managed to persuade Newton to come back and also retain Gowser while bringing in Grainger who is a quality full back so perhaps we should be giving credit for his positive outcomes rather than all the negative ones?
  2. Mate, let next season take care of itself. This season is where the concentration should be on who makes up our squad and survive in the top league. Then we can consider who stays next season together with who the manager is.
  3. Agree and let's not even consider the loss of TV money. Why anyone would think relegation was a positive step is beyond me never mind the BOD
  4. Personally, without UN backing we should not go head first into another conflict. Humanitarian aid and support is fine but we do not need another Iraq or Afghanistan - just look at the legacy of our military actions there and the cost in human life and resources. I completely understand the horror of what is going on there but who put us in charge of sorting the world's problems out? USA lead and we are close behind. If the UN sanction a form of action then we have a mandate of sorts and likely that others will be there along with USA and Britain. Funny how we do not react the same way to the many thousands dying in North Korea. Is that because they have an army of over 3m soliders and lots of military might? I condemn what is happening there as much as what Sadam did in Iraq to the Kurds but military force will simply bring the Chinese and Russians into conflict just as they are warning this evening.
  5. So we have moved on from moron to incompetent twat. FFS don't sit of the fence mate, tell us what you really think?
  6. Lennon is not a moron. Jim Goodwin publicly stated that the players are behind him so you have to take his word on that matter. Danny is under pressure and something would seem to be amiss at the club at this time. Whether he is feeling the pressure through factors we do not know or he has realised he has messed things up with releasing so many players we have no idea. I like the guy and he is a genuine and good guy. He may simply not be cut out for running the club and that is fine as he will no doubt make his own decision to stay or go but referring him as a moron is way out of line. I understand your disappointment but there were 11 players on the park tonight and if Gowser had put away the penalty who knows what would have happened?
  7. Disappointing as it is, cup games produce this type of score. Killie went out to Hamilton and Rpss County lost to Stranraer. It happens and we had the chance to wrap things up. What disappoints is that we took the lead and that should have knocked the stuffing out of this team but they still managed to score against our rank defence. We need a striker but WTF has happened to our defence which is leaking goals?
  8. How many threads do we need to discuss sacking/replacing the manager?
  9. Wow, so you are referring that I am an idiot? Of course I would not be happy losing 10 nil so where did you get that impression from? I have no idea how long you have supported our club but if winning each week is what you want then go and watch the bigot brothers rather than a club that has will always lose more than it wins. I am simply not a knicker-wetter like you and others who, after 3 league games, are calling for the manager's head simply because we have not yet won a game. Remember my friend, this forum is all about opinions and that does not mean that if anyone does not agree with your opinion that they are deemed to be an idiot. Get a grip FFS and learn to accept that others views differ from your own. You are entitled to your own opinion even if I don't agree with it and I will not resort to childish or petulant "you are an idiot" statements. I will continue to support the club, manager and players each week and any decision to make changes at management level will be left to the board. We are going through a rough patch but like I said earlier, other clubs were in our position last season and turned things around. Have faith as a supporter that we do the same. If not, then I will continue to give the club my full support irrespective of what division we are in - I have done that for over 45 years and have seen us in a far worse state than we are now.
  10. No, it was because they support the team no matter who plays and what league we are in. I agree that having certain players on board can increase season ticket sales, but we are talking St Mirren and not Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd.
  11. They have clawed back 6 points yes, but there are other teams pretty close by like Hibs and Killie.
  12. Agree, Look at the start ICT and Fakes had at the beginning of last season and look where they finished. TBH, I sometime wonder what some fans expect for a club with a limited budget and our history of scraping around the bottom end of the league for most of our history. We had that lovely period between 76 and early 80s but that is as good as it has got for most of those who have suffered more than others through watching the club through the decades. Sacking the manager at this stage is plain stupid. Give him time to bring in the additional players he needs and then see where we are at the end of the first quarter. Btw, this issue about the playing personnel in our squad is strange when only Samson as a first team regular has left. The bones of our first team squad are still there plus Harkins and Grainger. McGregor is back but still needs games as does Kenny McLean. We could do with more support up front but remember it is our defence that has leaked goals also.
  13. My sentiments exactly. There is a time and place for knickerwetting but after 2 competitive games this is not the time.
  14. You really are the perfect example of the term 'boring record'. You never post anything positive at all and makes me wonder if you are trying to wind people up or you really are that negative. I am sure you will still come on with something negative if we win this game. It will be a hard shift but we are the SPL team and I do not look at friendly results to indicate whether we will win or not.
  15. What? Spouting negative shit in every post? Nope, don't think so Elvis
  16. Sorry SPS but I think £20 to watch any football match in this country is far too expensive. There is a reason why we cannot get people to come along on a Saturday (or midweek) to watch football and that is the cost. If you have a couple of kids (next generation of fans) who want to watch the game then it becomes out of reach for a lot of people. Imagine us playing 3 games in a week and you had 2 kids. Excluding travelling cost the price of tickets alone would be around £120 for the 3 matches. Who can afford that?
  17. They can talk to the cows come home in this country about footballing skills, keeping fans dry, developing young players and having family sections etc but the bottom line is that if the game is too dear then people will vote with their wallets/purses. Without sounding like Shull (a good guy though) we seriously need to consider how we make the game more affordable and get bums on seats. People go to the cinema and watch a movie, eat their sweets, popcorn etc and get a bus home for less than a football game. I know it is chalk and cheese but it is still all about entertainment and value for money. Charging £20 or more means that those living on the breadline or struggling to make ends meet will not go to an expensive game when the £40 that may be charged for a Dad and boy would feed the family for a week or pay for something else. Time to have a look at what the Germans and other Europeans charge for watching their sport and which is generally of a much higher standard.
  18. How do you know what Danny has been doing regarding bringing in players? Do you work beside him and Tommy on a daily basis? The talk has been about this young Newcastle player who is so good he is going to Carlisle and not even the Championship. For all we know he has approached players who have turned him down and why would he advertise that if it was the case? As for being a laughing stock, where do you get that view from? I frequent Pie and Bovril and have seen no reference to us being a laughing stock - relegation material from some but most other fans are more worried about their own club and performance than worrying about us. I wonder what some would say if Danny has rushed players in to appease the fans and they ended up not doing the job he thought they would have done. He would have been crucified by many for not taking his time and bringing in the right players etc. Perhaps the right approach is what he is doing by waiting to see who is still available and without a club whereby his he has the upper hand. The season has just kicked off and still a few weeks of transfer market to work in so no need for panic buys but patience to bring the right people in if they are available and willing to come to us. Danny and Tommy are not stupid men and will know the weaknesses in our team and will be trying to resolve it through what we have or, should the board provide the funding, bring others in.
  19. And this is simply why people do not go to football. Overpriced and poor product.
  20. Totally agree with most of what you say Drew. I, however, will bide my time and wait to see who Danny brings in to bolster the squad. I have no idea why we appear light in several areas but part of that could be down to demands by agents for certain players or perhaps waiting for the right time to bring in certain others. I realise that it is best to have new players bedded down as quickly as possible but they have to be available and willing to come to us for perhaps less wages than they are on. Rooting in the bottom of the barrel for players is something Danny has done in the past and been vilified for it. It is also worth giving some thought to the BOD tightening the budget and his hands are tied? No idea but in an ideal world we would have a few more bodies in the door but there may be genuine reasons for Danny not bringing in the players at the pace perhaps required. I guess we need to wait and see what develops.
  21. I have no idea why you bother watching the game when it clearly pisses you off every week. If you see no light at the end of the tunnel then go and watch the Glasgow vermin as they win more than they lose. We are a small club with a small core of supporters and a small budget and will generally be at the bottom end of the table. In 45 years of watching the team, only the period 1977 to 81 brought an expectation that we could win most games. Since that time we have struggled to remain in the top tier and I see no change. While I am a realist I would never think my team will lose every game like you do. If there was an award for pessimism then you would get the gold each time. FFS try and be positive and remember it is a game of football and not life and death,
  22. 1 defeat and you have us losing all of our matches? For some uknown reason you appear to have Hearts good enough to win their next 4-5 matches. IIRC they lost their opening game and were lucky against a rank Hibs side to steal the points. Their best player is out for the next 6-8 weeks and they will continue to play with young boys which only get you so far. Why is there a good chance that we will lose all our next 4-5 games? We do have some quality in our side and while I agree that we need strengthening in some areas and some back up in others, FFS we have played one competitive game so far. Motherwell lost 3-1 at home so are they knickerwetting about finishing behind Hearts? Dundee Utd and Hibs have not scored in their 2 games and Ross County who were much lauded have lost both of their games and have no points. I guess that puts them below Hearts too. Far far too early to begin fretting until we have an idea of who else comes in. If it noone then we piss with the cock we have. Remember the bad start that Fakes, ICT and Ross County had last season and look where they finished in the league.
  23. Steve Archibald was finished as a top player when he came to us and also was being well paid - no doubt where the motivation was to come to us.
  24. Buying any player is a gamble and most teams, including the top English clubs, have found that it does not always work out. Hibs have played 4 games and lost 11 goals and scored none. They bought a £200k player who has not yet found the net in the last 2 games so will the Hibs fans be judging him on those games? No, highly unlikely and he may end up being a success but also like Clayton Donaldson (scores lots of goals in the English lower leagues) may end up being an expensive flop. Personally, I will wait to see the full squad and the quality of the opposition before considering how well we are likely to do. The buck stops with the manager and the board and if they fail to address certain issues (if they still exist post transfer window) then we will reap what we sew.
  25. You seem to forget that we had no income for over 2 months and that money would be required to continue to pay players wages over that period. Where do you think that came from other than from our reserves in the bank? Having that money ensures that our debt is minimised over the close season unlike others paying higher wages and having no real income over the period in question.
