  1. I'd say Carey was an example of a decision based upon productivity as opposed to personality or ability, and that's how it should be done. He had all the ability in the world, but did not produce it often enough and hence did not earn a new deal. Why are we in transition? Because Scottish football is broken. No club bar the Old Firm has any stability. Every other club operates on loans, 1 year and 2 year contracts with the rare 3 year deal. That does not breed stability. No longer can a club sign players, and then sell them on for profit, because after their good season they are either out of contract or only have a year left. Folk want progress year on year, but sadly it wont happen because should a club have success the odds are that squad will be picked apart and the club have to start again. Just look at clubs such as Hamilton, Falkirk in the recent past, and who Ross County have lost this off season. The exception to the rule being Motherwell...but then again I wouldn't swap our League Cup run for their league success.
  2. Saying you don't think a certain player is good enough from a football perspective, and hope we sign a replacement. Hardly slating the guy. Like I said Lennon, McLean, Guy, Imrie and Parkin have all had much worse said about them on here. Then again...none of them support St Mirren so aren't above criticism. I do agree that this is the wrong thread for this discussion though.
  3. Right...so let me get this straight. On this forum players such as McLean, Guy, Imrie, Parkin and even the manager can take absolute dogs abuse over a number of issues. But some folk say that they would like us to sign a better centre half than McAusland and they are the "classless arseholes". Unbelievable.
  4. He was out of contract last season. League cup winner. Almost ever present for an SPL defence at 24. Rated by his own fans as one of our best performers. Were any clubs interested? Anybody make an offer? Genuinely think he would struggle to get a move, which would be considered a step up ie SPL or championship.
  5. He was much improved, but still part of a very poor defence. (a defence still being slated this pre season) I certainly hope that's just a number you made up, and I can't agree that he deserves that amount of money a week. Giving 100% effort is the minimum expectation, what folk judge him on is his ability. And we can ask for more.
  6. Its a pre season game...they mean nothing. Man Utd have lost two so far, City also lost 2 games in South Africa. I applaud every single saints fan who went down to Palmerston tonight but I cant see the appeal in paying money not to see us play our first 11 in a non competitive match. Bring on the real stuff next weekend.
  7. So Cornell had even less time to react than MacDonald. From what I'd read on here I was expecting a total gaffe from the guy, but from the video it looks like you've just got to applaud the strike.
  8. Hard to tell from that angle, and I wasn't there at the time. Looks awfully similar to Carey's strike that won goal of the season, and I don't think any of us said that McDonald was at fault for that goal.
  9. Because Newcastle will want to look at the development of their youngster first hand before determining which of them can step into their first team squad and who they are willing to release on loan. They can only do that after their own pre season is significantly under way.
  10. In reality preseason games mean the square root of fcuk all. It's all about getting the fitness back up to standard. We won 7 of these in a row and it did nothing for us once the season started. We knew we needed players before the game...and we still need players after today. Just hope this reaction doesn't force Danny into panic buying. If he is playing the long game with regards to certain transfers I hope he sticks to it.
  11. In theory yes...those guys were better options as backup. But in reality they produced a combined 10 goals and even fewer assists all season. Better to give youth a chance as they can't do any worse. The guys we let to are the reason we finished 11th as they gave no support to the first choice 11. Everyone knows we are 2 or 3 players short. I'm sure that will be rectified soon. Loans usually happen late in the window. As for Cornell...by all accounts he is highly rated at Swansea. And untested keepers such as ruddy and Randolph certainly aided Motherwell. Seems like a good signing for us.
  12. It's almost gotten too big. Unless there is another week where 11 guys can't play its looking like an 6-8 week minimum to get back in. Probably longer. Which isn't really the point of a standby list.
  13. Surely it's a case of...if you book the pitch and no show then the next time you want the pitch, you have to pay the club the 4 week fee. Use the policy as a punishment for those costing the club money. Asking groups who haven't missed a booking to pay up front is a more than a tad unfair. Get our resident right back and board member on the case...
  14. Obviously the league cup win buzz is wearing off and certain posters are reverting back to their negative ways. If Danny thought that Easton, Gordon or Saunders was a good fit for us we would've been in for them. But clearly he didnt, so we werent. Just last week Div said we were in for a left back that would please the vast majority of fans. No-one else (apart from Lovestreet clearly) knows who it is. Is that not how we have wanted Saints to do transfer business for years now? Remember all the names we were linked with that subsequently signed elsewhere. Now Danny is keeping a lid on things and our transfer targets aren't known publicly...the site is in meltdown and knickerwetting has set in. If folk honestly think that we will play the season with only Yacob as a left back and Thommo and Reilly as strikers then you need help. What else can Danny say than praise the players he currently has, and build up their confidence. Douglas McNeil ‏@DouglasMcNeil19h Lewis Guy's contract termination means that there should be 2 new additions. Adam Campbell from Newcastle on loan is poss if club let him go
  15. Safety of a 2 yr deal versus the uncertainty of a trial with us. Whilst we did offer the chance of SPL football anything could happen on his trial...in a freak accident he could break a leg or do in his ligaments and possibly ruin his career. Can't knock the guy for his decision
  16. Good to see highlights of that game at falkirk, was beginning to think that all evidence of that game had been erased. Would be good if the SPL makes the full highlights availiable at some point.
  17. Robertson has been punted from the No.8 shirt. Harkins may have requested it I suppose
  18. Graeme Macpherson ‏@Graeme_Macphers2m St Mirren have completed the signing of goalkeepers David Cornell and Chris Dilo. Cornell on loan from Swansea, Dilo on 1-year deal.
  19. I'm now of the opinion Lovestreet and big bud are the same person, arguing with himself all over the forum.
  20. The article in the PDE reads as though Danny knew who he wanted to sign, and has managed to get them both secured. Bodes well for the rest of the transfer window. Perhaps patience in such matters isn't a bad thing.
