As good a shout as any mate, anything's better than having that flat middle two of Mallan and Hutton. The tactics/shape isn't fair on either on of them. Both players' games are being adversely affected by Rae's refusal to budge.

I reckon Lappin could play that role...maybe not in the hard man mould of Millen, but as a deep, sitting midfielder who can pass the ball. There isn't really anyone out there like that, on a free anyway (that I know of).

Totally agree Sonny. Baird has youth and potential on his side, Mackenzie is only just in after being injured, Gordon hasn't played much...the one constant in our shite defence has been Webster. I expect Andy Murdoch might come in now. Maybe Lappin (unsure if he has a club yet).

Think Naismith is suffering from a bit of lack of confidence. We've not been playing in a way which suits his game either. Fitness also looks a bit of an issue, but he's back from a long term injury. Needs time to get right I think.

I really like Baird, and I get what your saying. I just don't want him to 'burn out' or destroy his confidence. But he seems a pretty resolute lad. People are quite right to criticise his mistakes, some go ridiculously overboard, but they often totally ignore some of the brilliant last ditch tackles and interceptions he makes. He's still learning.

Some of the abuse that our young players take (both here and at games) is pretty embarrassing, to be honest. Baird looks like he'll be a target this year. He's only 20, and is bound to make mistakes. If we're going to loan out a defender, it should be him...we have a good centre half in the making here, and he needs to be developed properly.

After calming myself down over the weekend, I'll wait and see how we do once everyone is fit and playing. My main concerns are still the playing style and tactics, however.

Rae needs to sort out the central midfield area or he'll be out a job before Christmas. Whether Quinn coming back will sort this, I'm not sure - it might very well do the trick, but we still need someone else to come in. A Dundee fan on P&B had said that Rae lost his job there because he couldn't sort out the central midfield, and failed to sign a dominant player for the position. Same thing is happening here - let's hope he learns from his mistake.

Have to agree. 1-1 isn't good enough. That's 4 games now and we've been honking in all of them with no signs of improvement.
