  1. If the results stay as they are we will be 3 points above Ross County, only 3 behind Motherwell and 7 behind Partick. However we all know that will be too good to last! RC have just missed a sitter for example.
  2. Gary Harkins playing a blinder for Dundee at Aberdeen!
  3. At half time would you rather be in Ross County's shoes than ours?
  4. First clean sheet of the season coming up? I don't think so.
  5. Beginning to think the SFA referees are adopting a conspiracy against St Mirren.
  6. All too familiar story. Missed chances and hitting woodwork + Arqin sent off.
  7. All is not lost - we have had 2 notable achievements this season:- We have sorted out our inconsistency problem. We can now be relied upon to get beaten in practically every game. We have also updated the English language - we have redefined the meaning of IMMINENT.
  8. Just shows you how disinterested/distracted we all are. Six-pointer this Saturday and only 23 posts so far.
  9. NYCFC are just following our example - playing crap opposition pre-season.
  10. If we are looking at Maxime Blanchard with a view to signing him, this might not be a bad signing based on his website:- www.maximeblanchard.com Have a look at his video section and make up your own mind - he certainly looks good enough to bolster our defence in its present state!
  11. You've obviously been watching our defence in action this season. Or maybe you're too young to remember when we actually had a decent centre back/half.
  12. We are doomed based on the indications from GT that we are currently looking at 2 or 3 signings up front and in midfield. No mention of shoring up the only defence in all the senior leagues in the UK without a clean sheet to its name after 5 months into the season. However I'll give Gary the benefit of the doubt and maybe he just forgot to mention a CB was also a priority in the transfer window.
  13. If this is the case would they have been allowed to own St Mirren as well?
  14. Jim Goodwin has had a lot of stick recently (and quite rightly so) but today with the bobbin screwed on tightly he was a class act. If only he could perform to that level every week (and remember most fans think midfield is his best position). Naismith and Kelly played to a good level but I felt they were giving the Dons' wide men too much room to cross and this contributed to the 2 goals today. Were they playing to tactics laid down? This seems to be a common weakness in our defence, week in week out. Tess looked solid in central defence - it was only his distribution that let him down. Ridgers would be the first to admit his liability at the first goal but I think overall he has done well since he came into the first team. Our midfield competed well against a strong and talented Dons midfield. However Mallon and McLear are a work in progress and we should not expect too much too soon. I thought Osbourne was our best performer in midfield with the classy McGinn slightly off the boil at the moment. McLean did his best but he is not a striker and we miss him in midfield. Although Wylde possibly felt he had something to prove today - he failed to do so - probably because he is not properly match fit. So as I said in an earlier post - with 3 or 4 good signings in the January transfer window (and with Thommo back and fit), we could still avoid the drop.
  15. Atterndance today was 4977 of which there were 1964 Aberdeen fans. However it was a bit like being at an England -v- Scotland game at Wembley where the home support were completely out-done by the visiting support. I can understand why the 3013 Saints fans today were outshone by the Dons support - it's not just the players that are lacking confidence and a positive attitude. But we do have the nucleus of a decent team and 3 or 4 good signings in the transfer window could make a big difference. if that happens, the backing of the Saints fans WILL make a difference in our fight to beat the drop. Teale and his team deserve our support - wish i could say the same for the BoD.
  16. Those of us that were actually at the game would say that we played reasonably well - actually quite similar to the first game of the season against Motherwell. But four months later we cannot accept that we were just unlucky (again) - it was the same old story - attractive football in the middle of the park, but a leaky defence and powder puff up front. However if GT can make one or two (or three) effective signings over the next couple of weeks we still have the nucleus of a decent team - ALL IS NOT LOST YET! We can still catch Motherwell and overtake Ross County but we need fans to actually turn out at games and provide their support instead of sitting at home and posting negatively on here!
  17. I am hearing that we have signed on loan 34 year old Peter MacDonald of Dundee (ex Morton and St Johnstone). Apparently he has had a pretty good scoring rate at all of his clubs.
  18. As usual, we the fans, have been left in the dark, although that is maybe understandable given the confidential nature of the negotiations. It's obviously too soon to judge the merits of the offer because there are too many unknowns at present. One thing I would agree with is that St Mirren has the potential to do a lot better than under the present regime and to attract much larger crowds than they currently do - if they had a winning team on the park - for example like Hamilton Accies. Is that level of sustained success beyond us? If we had access to similar financial resources of say Dundee United we should be able to compete with them (and the likes of Aberdeen). Instead of that we find ourselves, in the largest town in Scotland, struggling to keep up with the likes of Ross County and ICT. The only problem with putting a successful team on the pitch is that New St Mirren Park would hardly be big enough to accommodate the fans who would want to come along! This was posted before the fraud issue became known - so it is a case of dream on - into the league below.
  19. 1st March 1961 Scottish Cup replay at Cathkin Park Third Lanark 0 - St Mirren 8 or 7th October 1981 (I think) St Mirren 2 - Rangers 2 - the highlight of which was Jackie Copland halfing in two so-called hardman Tam Forsyth in a crunching tackle which ended up Forsyth getting booked for his late tackle - Jackie got there first!
