  1. There's no question, IMHO, that Scotland has been robbed of her wealth since the 1970s. It seems a report into the wealth generated by the oil industry was suppressed due to fears it would drive Scottish independence - https://www.thenational.scot/politics/23348407.truth-behind-mccrone-report-means-scotland/ . I'm well aware of The National is a biased source, btw, but it is surely quite obvious that had the oil wealth been shared amongst 5 million people, instead of 50 million+ it would have made Scotland a very prosperous country. I don't like the SNP, however they're essentially an umbrella organisation for nationalists - a broad church focused on achieving that objective. The party would likely be dissolved once it had been achieved.
  2. When I was a younger and less mature man, I always completed diversity forms to make me appear to fulfil every aspect of the minority criteria. I have to wonder whether this survey will indicate that we have an inordinate number of disabled, black, non-binary lesbians with a traveller background amongst our support. 😆 Alternatively, will we be condemned for being 'hideously white' and male? In which case will the club seek to employ a diversity officer? Can't they just take our money and devote their resources to answering the telephone in the ticket office?
  3. What do you like best about the article?
  4. Welcome to the forum, MargaritaThomas. I'm sure we all appreciate your objective advice. Thanks.
  5. I'm watching Missing 411 on Amazon Prime. I saw this guy's Tweet and it led me to the series. I have a friend who's utterly convinced that aliens exist and the US have their bodies. He's a very clever guy and a diligent researcher. I'm not convinced, but remain open-minded.
  6. Hello Snoopyra! I see it's your first post, so thought I would welcome you to the forum. You don't, by any chance, happen to work for ScotRail, do you?
  7. I support the BBC here. They shouldn't pander to political correctness. There's no harm in a stuffed octopus and no indication it is anything but an innocent mascot.
  8. Not good at all! So that's Baccus and Strain missing from the game on Saturday, then! When was this game played? I'm assuming you meant Australia v Israel, but I cannot find it on the BBC's fixture list. ETA: Apologies - I have only just learned that the Palestine national team compete in qualifiers! 😮
  9. No offence taken and absolutely no need to apologise! It was simply a comment on how society views jobs like that, yet they're absolutely critical. I was chatting with a cleaner in my office a while back and she told me that she used to work in a school and some of the teachers wouldn't speak to her; she said they quite literally would ignore her, even when she greeted them. Clearly, that's a single person's anecdote and certainly doesn't reflect the attitude of all teachers, but it does demonstrate how some folk regard those who do such work.
  10. Connor with a great assist tonight for Nor'n Ireland!
  11. Society should respect its cleaners! Just imagine your toilets at work didn't get cleaned! In my eyes, there's nothing demeaning about good, honest work that is absolutely essential. As a student I spent the summer holidays working as a kitchen porter. It coincided with me shaving my head, and it was interesting to see how people treated me. The KP team consisted of me, two ex-cons, a clearly low IQ man with a speech impediment and a disabled boy. However, they had such difficulty recruiting that they paid considerably more than the <21 minimum wage at the time, which was all the incentive I needed. It was hard work and we were seen as the lowest rank in the kitchen hierarchy - shouted at by the chefs and treated with a mixture of disdain and wariness by the young waiting staff. Nine hour shifts of hard graft. I had several jobs like that from the ages of 15-22 and I think it made me a better person. After being made redundant in my late 20s I worked in a 24 hour garage for a couple of months whilst I found other work, too. "I don't trust anyone who's nice to me but rude to the waiter. Because they would treat me the same way if I were in that position" - Mohammed Ali.
  12. No, it doesn't de-legitimise anything. I didn't make any comment about it at all. He's my local councillor and, IMHO, it demonstrates merely how feelings are running high.
  13. I'm actually glad you clarified that, as I was about to waste my time verifying it. I would have found it difficult to believe something like that would come from the British Legion.
  14. Thanks, buddie! Their supporters have a sort of siege mentality. I think one could write a PhD thesis on why that is, as I think there is scope to argue it goes way beyond supposed grievances relating to their club's fortunes, both on and off the pitch. It can arguably be related to the threat posed to the United Kingdom, both here and in Ulster; their patriotism (or perhaps jingoism?) is now deeply unfashionable; and the realisation that their 'culture' is becoming more and more irrelevant. T2 summarised it quite well: "these are people who've been abandoned by their political class..." I think a lot of it is exaggerated, to be honest. I also don't have a problem with people, even a very large group of people, expressing an identity, which is ultimately what both the Old Firm clubs do. They feed off one another. As long as our club remains free of it, that's all that matters to me. I have found both grounds to be very hostile, but I think they always have been. I prefer that to grounds that have no atmosphere and quite like the idea of going to into the lion's den, so to speak. I do not long for the day when angry, working class Glaswegians have been replaced by the prawn sandwich brigade, which seems to be the case with many clubs down south.
  15. Glasgow councillor assaulted due to support for Israel: https://news.stv.tv/west-central/tory-councillor-assaulted-in-pub-over-israel-hamas-conflict-views#
  16. Trust us to have to play them after they appoint a new manager and inevitably benefit from the bounce. I suppose we did at least get to play St. Johnstone before they even won a game.
  17. Anyone else going to this? Any score predictions? Have I wasted thirty-two 'fecking quid'?
  18. That's not very nice, @antrin. At the end of the day, we all have different opinions about political matters and what's going on in the world, and we should all be entitled to express them civilly on here without being abused.
  19. I just have done! I was going to wait to see how we did against Livingston and Ross County, but decided I'd go for it. I will meet a few Rangers supporting fiends friends pre-match.
  20. It's relative. The Dundee players were well rested. I have noticed that the Old Firm often drop points after midweek European games.
