Reading between the lines, I’m guessing they thought the fullback and one other (Smyth?) were done deals...and for whatever reason they’ve not got over the line. Tough to take, but can’t be helped in this window.

You can blame the manager for the result, but really poor individual errors costs the first two goals. Ethan concedes a free kick for getting far too tight to Forrest, Tansey completely loses Burke in the box and the keeper should have done better. For the second, what a ridiculous tackle by S McGinn in the box. 2-0 down with 15 mins to play at the home of champions. Absolutely no hope.

Has anyone considered that Malec wasn’t signed because he was shite? Wouldn’t really call him an International striker. Two caps in diddy friendlies don’t count for much. It’s akin to calling Darren Barr an International as he managed a cap for Scotland once.

I think it’s down to be on the front foot more on the Championship, meaning we could push higher up the park. He also had more mobility with someone like Kyle next to him, but doesn’t quite have that this year. He’s not a Goody type midfielder where he’s sitting in and covering space when full backs push forward, and I don’t think it’s in his nature.

Depends. If you need a full back, and consistently concede goals because of it, then it doesn’t matter then number of strikers you have. For us, it’s all about managing the points per game balance...and we need a strong defence to do so. also, the manager has aknowleged that he doesn’t want to dabble in the loan market and that will not be the long term plan. However, it’s a case of needs must right now.

Think we can discount any comparisons to the players Stubbs signed. Also, if it’s a comparison to Moneyball...the A’s signed players ruled out by other teams. They were the ultimate scrapheap team! No idea on the boy that’s on trial. Might be worth it, might not. They could have scouted him ahead of his injury or watched him in reserve games.

But that’s always going to be our problem in January. We aren’t in a position to sign the better players from better teams - they are playing and will command a fee. We are left with signing players from bigger clubs that aren’t getting a game, or players lower down the ladder who may be able to step up.

Yeah, I wasn’t at the game but watched the scores come in on Sportscence. Scott McDonald was dropping the same patter, and doing so as the score went to 2-2. He then proceeded to backtrack like f**k! Anyway, Oran is here until the end of the season if we stay up or go down. Not heard anyone at games or in the pub (I don’t take here as a barometer of reality) not willing to give him a chance.

So 2-3 expected this week, hopefully a left back, winger and a forward. For all that Ethan has performed well, I think we need a more experienced head in there. Interesting that one prominent poster claimed we’d only sign 3 or 4 players and that Cooke was away. A pretty poor WUM...

Yeah, much my thought. Gut feel says that the best signing or two is yet to come... overall, before a ball is kicked, I’d say our squad looks to be in a better place than it was in December. Hammill the obvious miss, but none of the others I’m disappointed about.
