  1. Did this not happen quite recently only for it to reopen?
  2. You presume we have anyone able to come in. Given Goodwin is having to play CB I don't think we have many options here....
  3. Everyone would but it needs to be the right owners. Nobody wants the misery some clubs have gone through. It would be a lot worse than right now.
  4. Me too. The fact that rubs me was they weren't interested in us at all before Motherwell kicked them into touch. No care for the club at all. Ticks all the boxes in the Dundee / Livi madness ownership too. Oh well.
  5. Couple of things jump to mind. Rory's wins happened in the summer / Ryder Cup in September. Hamilton was fighting for the title all through September & October and won it in November, appearing on the TV and radio then numerous times. As such he had a higher profile closer to the vote. F1 can be watched in under 2 hours on TV and has a higher profile than golf on terrestrial TV with millions watching most weeks. Golf most weeks is hidden on Sky (excluding the open) and rounds can take 4 hours with coverage being very long. As a TV sport F1 works better for the casual viewer than golf. I also think Rory's personality and demeanour isn't great, but Hamilton is the same. I doubt the Ireland thing cost him many votes like some have suggest however. I don't think Hamilton's achievement should be put down. He is a worthy winner too, double world champion and a very good driver even if I am not much of a fan!
  6. Might be negative, but he is essentially right. Our stadium won't have a great land value. Scottish football isn't in a brilliant state and isn't making the money it should be for a variety of reasons. We don't own our training ground (but there are sound reasons for that). Our players are on short contracts and Bosman ruling means best players can and do leave for free- to Championship and clubs willing to pay more. Broadfoot, McGregor, Higdon, Dorman all moved on for little/nothing. It isn't the 1980s any more. St Mirren as a club has value to fans and the town and generally speaking we are decent at what we do, but we don't really have value outside that, that is why nobody has put down the money to buy it in what 5 years? All in all I really don't like the sound of this and feel it is totally the wrong direction for the club to be headed down. It's not as if they love the club as it seems Motherwell was first choice before being sent packing there. I'm always sceptical of these kind of things. Raith, Livi, Hearts, Dundee are a few of those where it unwound. Hearts might have rejoiced Romanov when he came in with big ideas, they weren't laughing last year.
  7. Lets see, Raith, Livingston, Dundee, Hearts. Any more examples needed why such a proposal should be chased out of town? I mean this reeks of the same as Claude Anelka at Raith. We worked so hard to get out of debt and it cost us a lot. To risk this future on us being able to sell on South American talent seems hell of a risky. Is there any recent examples of foreign ownership working in Scotland?
  8. Oh good, foreign ownership always goes well in Scottish football. Argentinian owners will have a real affinity with the club and it's history.
  9. Don't know what site you're looking at but London to San Francisco is listed as 11hrs for most operators. At present Amsterdam-SF is 11hrs 30mins, but it will drop in Summer to around 10hrs 50mins. Last time I flew to LA it was over 11hrs. I don't mind the jets out of Glasgow. 757s are fine and being smaller less people to delay things! Heard some poor things about 747s from BA, they are gradually being withdrawn and are tired.
  10. It's down to money. Golf can be expensive (although it depends where you are) with £20 a round or £500+ memberships at the cheaper end of the scales plus equipment. Equally many clubs treat young members like the plague. Cycling is free to do once you have the bike.
  11. Yep did it in 1999 then flew on to Seattle and did that and relatives in Vancouver Island. Fabulous trip apart from BA flights! Did Vegas-Grand Canyon-Phoenix-San Diego-LA too a few years back. America is tremendous for holidays, can do so much and so different.
  12. It's totally subjective, there are so many cities in America, most are great places, but it's what you want out of it. Boston is one of my favourites really interesting city due to massive number of students and I really liked Chicago, felt a little like a more relaxed kind of NYC. I think NYC can be a tad over-rated by some, I know someone who keeps going back nearly every year, fell in love with it on TV/films and loves the NY culture and vibe. In this instance for a short 4 or 5 day stay NYC is where it is at. Forget side trips to DC and Boston- 3 hours each way on a train kills too much time for me on a short break. To do SF justice probably best to go for a couple of weeks and tie in with the west coast, Vegas, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, LA. An extra 2-3 hours flight time is a long time for 4-5 days, especially when you can go direct to NYC from Scotland.Jetlag isn't an issue on the way there, it's just like waiting up to 3am, it's the way back it will bite.Jetlag isn't an issue on the way there, it's just like waiting up to 3am, it's the way back it will bite. If you talk to those in the travel industry they think, Edinburgh is going to be a bloodbath for airfares next year due to competition both to Middle East and Transatlantic. Might be some good deals on the go, but can be a pain in the arse to get along the M8 for a 9am. LA is the worst place I've ever experienced for security, although they've tried to improve it since we were last there. Think we waited in line 2 hours for immigration in a poor terminal after waiting 30mins for a gate. Philadelphia was easy-street, no queue, tons of desks in a modern arrival hall.
  13. I think Butcher made mistakes in that one too. I think he thought Hibs were safe, and started to plan for next season. Telling folk they weren't good enough and having to go back to them was poor. Don't doubt he can build a good side if given time and I'm not sure why Hibs chucked him so early, yes the relegation was awful but the backroom and off-field stuff hampered Hibs for years. Calderwood does have a good record, but I think he always needs a wee bit of finance behind him and I'm not sure we can have that. Stark is just uninspiring all round, and the performances latterly with the u21s was terrible given the talent we had. I wonder if we go with a manager to the end of the season to see where that takes us?
  14. I went to the game simply because I had already paid for the ticket and on a terrible day I had nothing else on. I suspect that in terms of cash sales you'd have the 260 St Johnstone tickets plus about 150 or so pay at the gate buddies? Numerous ST seats were empty in W3 and W4.
  15. Proving the point that fans would buy any old shite.
  16. Such a good previous record. Should keep him might take us to new places. Alloa, Dumbarton, Dumfries........
  17. I've got a ticket for Saturday. Don't want to go and see the team suffer but will go. 8 points in the league and out of all the cups in December. Shocking stuff.
  18. That was a poor team, but this current lot are worse in my view. At least that side could score! Some of the players of that 10/11 team would stroll into the side now. Up top we had Dargo, Higdon and Wardlaw. Wardlaw had the same number of goals at this point of the year as our main striker this year in Ball!
  19. I find the 'judge me on a full squad' line dubious. Many managers, in loads of sports, suffer injuries to key players and members of the squad. The thing with being a good manager is identifying how you deal with it, how to 'manage' the players through this period. The amount of injuries we've suffered is highly troubling too. To simply rely on Thommo so much is madness. Great player but at 36, we must have been thinking, need a good backup here just in case.
  20. I think it will be the same as the Brechin game, perhaps a little less. I'm not going however. I'll go to every game on my season ticket to support the team, but I'm not paying more money.
  21. Same here. Regulars I know are dropping off, mates aren't wanting to come any more. Even in the bad days of Gus when we didn't score, we fought, competed and could keep clean sheets. I didn't go to the Dunfermline game and I can tell you I'll not be at the Inverness game. I'm not paying more cash to watch such poor stuff.
  22. I'll have 5 of what he's having! The only thing that gives me any hope is that we're much of a muchness with the bottom 4, but no faith under Craig. The fans are resigned to the fate. We deserved so much better.
  23. Just woeful. Has to be sacked or we have zero chance of staying up. Marwood being taken off today for a youth player was bizarre. I know Marwood hasn't been great but I thought he was OK in comparison to others and the kid looked out of his depth. I'd have thought Tommy would have learned from sticking Brown against Hamilton. It seemed like a desperate gamble. They can rattle it if they think I'm buying a ticket for the Inverness game unless they guarantee the money is to pay Tommy off!
