  1. Guys if you are into the mellow side of prog rock then you should check out Big Big Train. Their last two albums English Electric Part 1 and 2 are my albums of 2012 and 2013. They have the classic sound of late 70s Genesis but touches of so many other bands while retaining their own sound. They also have, to my ears anyway, one of the best singers out there. Classic melodies along with some stunning musicianship but the music is so easy to digest and you will be humming along to some of the shorter and more commercial sounding tracks.
  2. I say they should bring Stackridge back to Glastonbury. Now there is a much under-rated and wonderful band. They were at the first festival and having seen them over the last few years they still produce a great show of musicianship, lovely melodies and some tremendous back catalogue of songs.
  3. Personally thought Jagger was shocking during the gig. He never could sing and he has just got worse. out of tune and struggled to sing any of the songs IHO. Nothing against the Stones classic songs from a musical perspective but Mick should join Macca, Elton and Cliff and retire to spend their millions. It is only Egos that keep them going.
  4. You are Elvis in disguise you old fart
  5. Elvis mate, there are bigger teams than us floundering with lower league football and mounting debt/administration. I don't recall any such 'making a complete balls up" when we won the cups in 87 and this year. I have watched the team longer than you and have spent most of that with my head in my hands and my stomach churning. I cannot count the number of times my scarf was threatened with the hallowed turf of Love Street but I have grown to accept that a club with our budget and fan base will more than likely be scrapping near the bottom of the league. It is a way of life but I am much happier being where we are now and would wager that fans of Dundee, Dunfermline, Falkirk and Morton would give their eye teeth to be where we are. You must have a crystal ball somewhere if you can predict our final squad and those of the other teams. Murderwell have just lost Higdon and a few other quality players while other competing teams have also lost quality. No-one can predict what is likely to happen until at least well into the season. There is no way that the Plastics will as well as Ross County have done (but they may of course) as they have lost some quality while Hearts (if they survive) are going to struggle with -15 points no matter who they have in their team. ICT are a mystery with so many new players as are Hibs without the guy who appeared to score all their goals. If you are citing that we will be at the bottom because we always are then I guess you would not have predicted we would have won the League Cup and beaten Aberdeen, Celtic and Hearts (all bigger clubs than us) because we had never won it. Finally, football is a strange thing and surprises do happen. Would a RC fan have predicted their final league position of the Fakes getting into Europe? I doubt it and that is what makes this game so fascinating and enjoyable (well, as much as a St Mirren fan can enjoy lol)
  6. Every player has a value and if some club is daft enough to offer a rather nice offer for any of our players then the club would have to accept it. That is and always has been the way of a small club and moreso in this day and age where money is tight. If our youth policy comes to fruition then a number of young players will replace those moving on for cash. The conveyer belt will continue to run.
  7. Apologies if you thought this was aimed at you - it wasn't mate. My point to Elvis was simply that just because we lost a game against a team does not imply that we will finish below them. If you used that daft analogy then we beat Celtic who beat Barcelona hence we are better than Barcelona nonsense.
  8. Got to put £35k into perspective with all the money changing hands down South. If we had paid £100k or more then I would be more scathing of our manager but sometimes you have to pay money and in this day and age, albeit most clubs are skint, the sum of £35 is peanuts.
  9. I know money talks but surely a gig in the SPL with an established club is better than the dregs of the English fourth division (don't give me all this crap about it being the 2nd division) with a rank rotten team. If he, like Sutton, chooses them then good luck but he will be back up here before you can say Jack Robinson.
  10. You also fail to mention that we beat them 2-0 at NSP and also in the cup final. How can you base anything on 1 game of football and against a team that is unlikely to have most of those we beat in their team (weaker rather than stronger)? Btw, if you are going to cite any game then put all the fact in such as we were down to 10 men, they had other key decisions that on another day would have not happened if a stronger ref had been in charge. By your own method of coming up with a supposed valid opinion, does the fact that we beat Celtic in the cup mean that we will be above them in the league?
  11. Yes, kinds of sums it all up and confirms my thoughts as outlined in my other post.
  12. Most teams had a bad run, ours was losing 6 in a row but are we the only team that will have a slump in a season? Every club, bar Celtic is cutting their cloth and will be at a level that is the status quo or less. Any player coming in to us will more than likely perform to the same standard as those who have left - perhaps in some cases a little better. Our budget means we can only trade in the bargain basements of transfers and not with those who have bigger budgets to spend. A fact of life.
  13. FFS the season is not even upon us, we do not know the full strength of the squad or the opposition and good old depressive Elvis spouts his usual negative crap - seriously mate, I am sure you are fishing but if not go and support a team that wins all the time and that might make you happy. The start of the season is always an exciting time and I am usually biting at the bit to get to a game. I always go into every season with hope and continued love for my beloved team. Whatever league we have played in I have always been there and tried to remain positive. A genuine Saints fan - certainly one as long as I have been - knows that there will always be more down days than up and that comes with the territory of supporting a small club with a small support and a small budget. You surely must be in the Guiness Book of Records for holding the longest depressing and negative views about a football club you claim to support. Maybe if you actually supported the team and showed the smallest modicum of positive thinking then your world may be better for you and you may enjoy football.
  14. They have to pay those players wages and they cannot continue to do that unless they get sufficient income in. Hearts are goosed and any quality player will not want to hang around a club on the verger of liquidation - see Rangers exodus of players after they took a pay cut for a good example of loyalty. Hearts with their squad of last year were poor so how will they be extra motivated or even better when they will be playing wee boys and reduced salary if they stay in existence?
  15. It is simple. Not signing players at this time means we do not have to pay out more in wages for players to laze around during the summer months. Secondly, there will be a lot of players looking for clubs between now and when we begin the friendlies and we will have our full quota sorted out by then. No point in rushing at this time to only find out that someone better is available for the same terms of contract. Patience if a virtue so they say and I am confident that Danny and Tommy have their irons well in the fire. As for those other clubs, outwith Celtic, none of them are earth shattering and/or worrying.
  16. You don't think that, not that long ago, having a squad of around 60 players on good wages had anything to do with the spiralling debt?
  17. We have no idea what tactics Danny will deploy next season. We are forever screaming that the squad is too lightweight in certain positions, moreso now that we have lost so many players - most rightfully so. I recall Gary Teale getting stick for being way past it and not contributing and yet he has had a great season and integral to our team - some would have had him chased out the door in the previous season. We cannot judge any signing and what they will bring until they are physically playing in the team and in a formation that the manager has set out. Harkins is a very good player and perhaps we will get the best out of him now that he has secured a good deal. From what I have seen when playing for Killie and Dimdee he has a lot of quality. It is up to him and the manager to get the very best on the park. I see no sense in anyone slagging off a player who will represent us in black and white. All new players should be welcome and encouraged and time will tell whether this move is the right one or not - same for any player at any club. I am fairly positive that Gary will prove a lot of doubters wrong.
  18. Bit harsh. I can name many others who were far worse but would be here all night.
  19. That is something I cannot understand also. They are rooked financially yet are supposedly chasing all sorts of players. Why would Wilson commit to a club that is going to the wall? I know they have to replace certain players who are leaving but it will be interesting to see the sort of wages they are paying or whether they can afford to do this.
  20. Sorry, read my original question. The 3 you mention were all out of contract. Try again but this time with players deemed surplus to requirements or deemed not good enough to stay.
  21. Every football club takes a chance on signing a player when a transfer fee is involved. Even Fergie at Man Utd bought some players that just did not work out. It can happen.
  22. Why is it that when a player not deemed good enough or is surplus to requirements always going to come back and haunt us. Other than Richard Brittain can you give me 3 former players who have come back with another team and scored against us or proved us wrong?
  23. I posted but not for the first time has the comments not shown mate.
  24. I have the match programme signed by both sets of players for the Centenary game - do you think it has any value?
