  1. I'm good friends with Joe's son, never knew them when they were in Glenburn, but had a couple of great Hogmanay's with them round at their house in Renfrew when they were there in the late 90s / early 00s. As you say, a great family. I felt so so sad for them at their daughter's funeral last year, no parent should have to bury their own child.
  2. No, must be someone different you're thinking about. One of my grandfathers was a french polisher in Partick, and the other was a north sea fisherman. My dad taught at Camphill from (I think) 1971-1980, then at Port Glasgow High from 1981-1998 before he retired. He did supply after he retired at Paisley Grammar from 1998-2000, then supply at Gryffe High from about 2001-2008 when he stopped for good.
  3. Oh, my Dad almost certainly will know him then, he played in the school band and still helps out with the Port Glasgow high school band now, 18 years after he retired! I'm seeing him tomorrow so will mention to him. He taught science (specifically chemistry), and when he was at Camphill helped run the school football team.
  4. I'll ask my dad if he knew him. My dad taught at Camphill in the 70's, he's retired now, but might well have known him.
  5. It was not a mistake from Irvine, he went down after a hard knee to knee contact, looked a sore one.
  6. I thought it was a big improvement in terms of how the team went forward, much more direct. If we continue to play in that manner I think we'll climb out of trouble. Feel bad for saying it, but as others have said I also think Naismith was very poor. Slow and indecisive throughout, not the player he was before his injury. I hope he can improve, but if not needs to be dropped. Thought Irvine was superb today, Hutton and Mallan both greatly improved. Personally I'd like to see Ross give Sutton and Clarkson a few games up front together as I think defences wouldn't like having to deal with them both. Walsh should be starting too. Certainly there is a bit of hope...
  7. You've got to be kidding! Dominated then concede like that...
  8. There are one or two very minor details that I'd personally edit or express a little differently, but this does a pretty good job of explaining the truth of the matter. https://thesecretbarrister.com/2016/10/14/10-myths-busted-about-the-ched-evans-case/
  9. But the new proposals are not solely about Police Scotland, they're about a culture change in dealing with offenders from pre-trial right through to eventual release from prison as well as alternative court disposal methods when it may be appropriate. They're about different approaches to trying to rehabilitate and reintegrate past offenders and instil values that might help them see a future beyond the punitive part of their sentence. This is just scratching the surface. You really should look at some organisations like 'Positive Prisons, Positive Futures' who have been doing incredible work in the area of prison and justice reform for a while now. I was liaising with them through my work just last week, so have personal experience of the good things they are doing. Oh, and you're wrong by saying that most police don't want this rolled out. Of course some won't. And of course some will. But in my personal experience, both the police at a senior level and the Scottish Prison Service are all for initiatives that will increase the possibility of changing offenders' behaviour for the better and giving them a fresh chance at life. Again, in my personal experience of dealing with these people on a frequent basis.
  10. There is no one answer as to 'what victims want' when it comes to those who have committed crimes against them. You also clearly don't have the requisite knowledge or experience of penology or the criminal justice system to put forward a legitimate argument as to what does or doesn't work when it comes to recidivism, or knowledge of current research linked to these areas. The electronic tagging proposal is one that's been in the works for a while, and is based on solid evidence regarding rehabilitation of offenders and allowing them to reintegrate and become useful members of society rather than being disproportionately stigmatised as a result of imprisonment with relation to the particular 'crimes' that many have been convicted of. It may or may not result in improvements to re-offending rates, but that remains to be seen. If it does, then in the long term, policing costs, court costs, and prison costs will all be lower. I don't know why I'm even trying to be reasonable and discuss the reality of the situation when I know it will be ignored, but hey, at least I've tried!
  11. I liked her in City Lights with Gerrard Kelly, but then City Lights is one of my favourite ever comedies.
  12. Nope. It is 'Scots'. Perhaps you should do a little research on the history of language in Scotland. Scots is an officially recognised language / dialect.
  13. It'll be interesting, and at least we have a platform to build from with the 3 points and goal difference on the board. I've been a regular at the international qualifiers since the Euro 2000 qualification attempt, and went to sporadic games before that, so have seen optimism crushed previously several times, but I genuinely think if they get their act together this time then there is a chance of qualification.
  14. Can't really blame him for much though to be fair, he's only had a few days. But no, he certainly shouldn't be in consideration as long as there are established names in the frame.
  15. Only Sutton gets pass marks, even though he squandered his hat-trick opportunity. Everyone else can GTF!
  16. After this game Hutton should be dropped... off the pier at Wemyss Bay.
  17. Honestly, two glaring opportunities to go 3-1 up only a minute apart. As soon as we failed with both of them I knew, as we probably all did, that Dunfermline would equalise. Totally predictable sadly.
  18. Why is it that no St Mirren team over near enough the past decade can hold on to a lead when they get it?
  19. I was coached by Billy Davies when he was doing his coaching badges. I can understand your perception of him, and as I've mentioned on the forum before he does swear more than any other human being I have ever met. However in my experience he wasn't an angry wee man, but very much a motivator giving confidence in both individuals and the team. He's actually very knowledgeable on tactics and coached us in things I'd never considered previously. Of course I'm going back some 20 years for my own experience, so very likely he'll have changed a lot as people do over time, but purely based on what I know I would be quite happy to give him a chance at the helm.
  20. Indeed, 6 games in the championship and a grand total of 3 points, without a single win, is simply unacceptable.
