  1. http://www.brechinadvertiser.co.uk/sport/scottish-sport/murray-reveals-teale-contact-1-3780746 Nice gesture by Gary in what must have been a disappointing day for him. It would be encouraging if he could work with Ian Murray in some capacity and develop his own coaching skills at St Mirren rather than somewhere else.
  2. http://www.the-gazette.co.uk/sport/football/articles/201 He won't be so ecstatic when he meets some of our supporters (and non-supporters)
  3. It's hard to disagree with such knowledgeable experts as Lord Pityme and Stuart Dickson. But here goes. They appear to have received some inner revelation which appears to justify their superior attitude towards those of us who are willing to give Ian Murray the benefit of the doubt, (which probably the rest of us have) - and that doubt would apply to practically any St Mirren managerial appointment. What is sad and rather revealing is LP and SD's total lack of any good grace in failing to wish the new manager well at St Mirren despite their own personal opinions on his abilities and promise.
  4. Why waste time discussing what a great/disappointing appointment? Now that the decision has been taken let all Saints fans get behind the new manager and the team. This season has been one of the worst (if not the worst) in my lifetime and I'm no youngster. Yes we all have our opinions on managers and players and sometimes some of us get it right. However, more often than not, we get it totally wrong. Congratulations to Ian Murray on his appointment and let's hope he can make the most of the very limited resources at his disposal. Thanks also to Gary Teale for his efforts as manager and especially as a player - hopefully his time will come, but it might not be at St Mirren. His stint as manager perhaps came just too soon for his own good. I think most Saints fans will wish him well wherever he ends up.
  5. Thommo regretfully has not done much to earn a chance at the job based on his apparent attitude, leadership and performances since the TC debacle. But there again that is maybe understandable.
  6. It can certainly be of no consolation to Stewart Gilmour and "the guys" that the great majority of fans have been telling them almost since the start of the season that this "pathetic" (BBC pundits' words) outcome was coming because of their poor and illogical decisions over appointments and dealings in the transfer market. Things are so exceptionally bad even for a relegated team that it is difficult to see at the moment how we will recover. Hopefully there will be a St Mirren team to support at the start of the 2015/16 season. COYS
  7. Genev off! And here was us thinking things can't get any worse.
  8. Utterly depressing performance, team selection and tactics. Can we feel anything but dejected by this?
  9. Sadly it's par for the course with the current BoD. However maybe by some freak accident they might make the right decision next time. You can't get it wrong all of the time???
  10. If 8th place after several years of bedding down in the SPFL is your idea of ultimate success for St Mirren so be it. I did emphasize that I was referring to our league performances and not our cup record which is a less reliable performance indicator. Lennon was not a failure - but he was hardly a success either in the context of the quality and stature of the clubs we were playing against. Maybe you have to be as old as me to appreciate how little we aspire to these days.
  11. A few managers have their better moments in charge and even the outstanding managers (such as Ferguson and Wenger) have had times when the fans were calling for their dismissal. What cannot be argued against at St Mirren is that the club has been badly managed since the time of Gus McPherson by a combination of managers, coaches and the BoD. Despite the modest aspirations and protestations by some on here, we have never in living memory experienced the level of success in the SPFL enjoyed by those giants of the Scottish game such as Ross County, Inverness Caley, Motherwell, Hamilton Accies, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone. But at the same time even the likes of the little diddy teams of Sevco, Hearts and Hibs, who currently have dropped down a league (or three), have had better days. We probably have enjoyed more than our fair share of cup successes but it is not the St Mirren way to have a consistency in the league - ie to finish in the top half. This is apparently an ambition which is beyond the means of a club from the biggest town in Scotland.
  12. At a time like this some might argue that we are just wallowing in self pity - then there again it is good therapy - so long as the fans stay united. To put this into perspective, practically everyone goes on about how Celtic are a class apart from from everyone else in the SPFL, including second-placed Aberdeen, who are 10 points behind. Now we find ourselves 10 points behind second bottom Motherwell, having just gubbed us 5-0. We are not just suffering relegation we are being declassified in the process. For we are, and have been, a class apart for most of the season.
  13. I posted in similar fashion a few weeks ago re the Morton game although I hoped against hope that things would improve after that dismal downpour of a day in Greenock - despite the fact that was one of very few victories this season. Little did we think then that goals would be so scarce all season and the defence has also gone from bad to worse. Despite the fact that everyone has identified where the blame lies for this debacle, it would be ill-founded optimism to expect an effective response from the board any time before the year 2020 - at the earliest. Unfortunately it was an omen of things to come. Like everybody else I am now totally cheesed off - no pun intended.
  14. There is no reason to believe that Thommo would do any better than Teale - but yes it would be Roy of the Rovers stuff if ST did succeed in the managers role, but that would be a very brave decision based on the GT experience - who imo should not be held responsible for the shambles of this season. The direction and leadership which we crave (and badly need) is mere wishful thinking and is not going to happen under the current BoD.
  15. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, it can be established without reasonable doubt, that the optimists have lost convincingly to the pessimists. I would count myself as an optimist, but now accept that my initial optimism was based on false hope and wishful thinking. The sole reason for this is obvious to everyone and whilst they deserved the plaudits for their previous rescue of the club, it is indisputable that the BoD have now carefully designed the demise of our beloved club by their ineptitude and woeful decisions (or non-decisions) since the League Cup win in 2013. It is the opposite of the Easter message - from resurrection to crucifixion.
  16. If you've bought a ticket, you can also win the lottery.
  17. If only we had played with the same commitment and organisation in earlier games as we did tonight, we might be in a safer position in the league than we are now. However we still offer absolutely no threat up front and it is hard to see where this can be improved upon - perhaps the Thommo of last season but..... Even against the likes of Motherwell and Ross County etc. it is doubtful if we can score enough to win the points we need to stay up. The BoD have seen to it that that we are going down - plain and simple.
  18. Is it not great not having another St Mirren defeat to explain away tomorrow? For the last few seasons we have had that same Friday evening feeling - and why? Because from (and including) DL's time we have generally made poor signings, some of which are referred to above. They were either never good enough in the first place to cut the mustard or else when they arrived at St Mirren they never maintained previous performance levels. We have regularly then had drastic end-of-season clear-outs and replaced these with even more inferior quality. The BoD are responsible for appointing managers and developing a strategy for improvement. In both areas they have failed drastically since the time of Gus McPherson who achieved just as much with limited resources, as his successors as we emerged from the effects of our previous relegation. The BoD then took their eye off the ball and we have then suffered in comparison with the likes of Motherwell, St Johnstone, Inverness Caley, Ross County, Kilmarnock and even Hamilton Accies, who all had similar resources as ourselves. These clubs were also affected by financial restrictions but, by more effective stewardship than ourselves, have achieved more in the bread-and-butter SPFL. Surely this is not open to dispute?
  19. Thanks for that - note the attendance - 20,893. Changed days - attendance-wise and quality-wise. That's cheered me up and hopefully a few other old codgers! There seems to be some dispute over the date - either 28 February or 1 March 1961
  20. Yes - magic memories - was there with my Dad: Third Lanark 0 - St Mirren 8 Third Round replay of the Scottish Cup - Wednesday 1 March 1961 However, Jim Rodger only (!) scored 4; the other scorers were Tommy Bryceland (2), Donnie Kerrigan and Alistair Miller. For the record - the line up that glorious night was:- Jimmy Brown, Red Campbell, Cockles Wilson, Rab Stewart, Jim Clunie, Ian Riddell, Jim Rodger, Tommy Bryceland, Donnie Kerrigan, Jock McTavish and Alistair Miller.
  21. It does matter who comes in - the same way it mattered that the bad/non decisions taken by the current BoD led us directly to our present impoverished state. Other teams with similar or even less resources have left us standing. However, I agree with your other 2 points.
  22. It's now impossible to find anything positive to say or anything that has not been said before by so many fans on here. The pessimists have won the day - the optimists have been sorely deluded ever since that dodgy win against Morton - myself included. Chic Young is also in cloud cuckoo land. He is currently on BBC Radio Scotland saying the BoD are the finest the club have ever had. This could have been argued up to the move to Greenhill Road but the reason we are in the position we find ourselves today is purely due to decisions taken since then by the board. From a position of strength they have surely led us into years of obscurity and the hurt is they apparently don't give a damn. They don't appear to care about the fans evident from their lack of dialogue or effective action. This attitude can only have one outcome!
