  1. That's absolutely disgraceful. He must know who is to blame for this nightmare of a season and it ain't the "knickerwetting" fans who expressed their concern at the AGM. He should be very careful about alienating any of the fans who are still attending. There are few enough of them already.
  2. A non profit making business, and they wonder why no one wants to pay £2m, £1.5m , anything for it. The only people who could possibly want to buy the club for any substantial amount of money and not be up to anything dodgy would be St Mirren fans imo. Quite simply the club as a going concern is not worth anything like the valuation being placed on it.
  3. A classic Elvis post. Never is a long time Bud. Things are "never" as black and white as you see them.
  4. Maybe I could have worded it better. I just meant that regardless of who comes in, as a club we can't spend money we don't have. We need to be a whole lot smarter on how we spend it though.
  5. It doesn't matter who comes in, they can only spend the income we generate. Otherwise we will end up in debt. We have to spend the money we have more wisely, even if we are able to generate more income. The last thing we need as a club is some sugar daddy type running us in a way that is not sustainable in the long run.
  6. Spend money we don't have? And you ask if I'm stupid. The next time you post something positive about Saints will be the first time. When that happens I might believe you're a supporter rather than just a perpetual moaner.
  7. You've said the same thing for how long? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Enjoy your revelling in Saints demise, you must be a happy bunny tonight.
  8. Me too but it won't matter unless we start picking up points. I'd rather both Saints and County won than we both lost, or even drew.
  9. Yes the Tom Hendrie season was fantastic, and in a different way the season Gus took us up was fantastic too, although nowhere near as entertaining. Those fans of my age will tell you 1976-77 was even better than the Hendrie season, when we won the 1st Division under Alex Ferguson with a young swashbuckling team who were a joy to watch. I'm not quite old enough to have been there in 1967-68 when we won the old 2nd Division but I'm pretty sure that would have been fantastic as well. The problem is that for each of the championship winning years that I can remember we had several seasons of utter shite to put up with beforehand. And I mean real shite, much worse than now, losing to the likes of Stenhousemuir and East Stirling at home in the early 70's, losing 5-0 at home to QOS in '74 just before Fergie was appointed, getting doings off Dumbarton and Alloa in the 90's and noughties. If we were guaranteed an exciting title challenge in the Championship and could be reasonably certain of coming back up in even a few years I could live with it. But there are no guarantees and we could sink like a stone if we're not careful. Anyone thinking relegation might not be too bad should think on. It could be a long time before we make it back to the top flight or the latter stages of the major cup competitions if it happens.
  10. I think that Hibs are the most likely opponents in the play off final and are probably better than Ross County and Motherwell so at the moment I wouldn't be happy to settle for a play off spot.
  11. No to sum up.....the future of the club could be seriously affected by relegation and we will have a stronger financial base to rebuild from if we stay up. The strength of this seasons squad is irrelevant to how we would perform in the Championship next season because there would surely be massive changes to it, almost certainly for the worse.
  12. It was Sandy Jardine who scored and I noticed the hug recently when they showed it on Sky in a Jardine tribute recently shortly after he died. I loved Bobby McKean as a Saints player and as a young lad was close to tears when he signed for that mob. That feeling didn't last long as Saihts won 6-2 at Brechin the day after he moved. However I'm ashamed to admit I hadn't even realised he was playing for them in that 3-3 game until I saw the clip recently. That game was just 6 months before he died, a tragic waste of a great talent. I didn't know him as a person but that small gesture with Brian Docherty after the goal makes me sure it was a tragic waste of a decent young man's life too.
  13. The Championship is ok if you're winning games and challenging near the top. However there is no guarantee that we'd be doing that and the seasons when we struggled at that level in the late 90's (and even a couple in the early noughties) were the most depressing ever in my view. From a financial perspective it would be damaging for the club and we could remain in the lower league(s) for some considerable time. I'll take staying up thank you very much.
  14. Erm, no. By my reckoning Div's list only gives us 3 home games after the split - Motherwell, Thistle and Killie.
  15. Nope. The two certainties in life are that everybody dies and you will predict the worst possible outcome for Saints in every situation.
  16. I'm pretty sure the Well, County and Jags fans aren't feeling comfortable either. They won't have written us off so why should our own fans? Yes we're deep in trouble and probably just marginal favourites to finish bottom but I don't think any of the teams around us are any better than us. It's still all to play for and we should all be up for the fight. From the way they played against Accies, it certainly looks like the players are.
  17. The trouble for Saints is that our stadium is so small that any reduction in prices is likely to lower our income rather than increase it. With an average gate of 4,000 if you half the price you need to sell out an 8,000 seater stadium just to generate the same income. If the clubs ever agree to reduce prices across the board and crowds are increased as a result, I don't see Saints benefitting from this whilst other clubs might due to the capacity of their stadia. If they brought standing areas back in combination with reduced prices t might make a difference but it would all depend on how much difference that made to crowds and the capacity of the ground. The ban on alcohol is a complete joke. A riot between the two bigot brothers 35 years ago and the rest of Scottish football fans have been treated like 2nd class citizens ever since. Why can we not bring it back for all games that don't involve Rangers or Celtic since they caused the problem in the first place and still can't be trusted to behave? I'm not even sure I'd want a beer at the game but I think I should be entitled to the choice.
  18. There has been no ambition beyond SPL survival at the club for a long time now. Hard as it is I have had to accept that the glory days of the late 70's/early 80's are never going to return. We have become a smaller club in my time supporting us, with very much a small time attitude from the top, and it's very difficult to drum up the level of enthusiasm that I used to have. Even when we were really in the doldrums in Division 2 for a few years in the early 70's, we were described by Fergie as sleeping giants when he took over as manager. Who would say anything like that now if we were relegated and spent a few years in the lower leagues? I fully accept that we have to live within our income but it has always struck me that the current BoD have more or less accepted our income as pretty much fixed and have done little to try to increase it. Even when we sell players we seem to get the minimum fee we could get. The new owners, whoever they may be, and whenever they come in, need to try to generate more income by whatever means if we are ever to progress beyond the bottom 3 of the SPL.
  19. Jon McShane is presently on loan from East Fife to Stranraer.
  20. Am I being whooshed here? West Ham are known as the Irons as well as the Hammers.
  21. I'm far from convinced that Arquin is any better at finishing with his feet than Ball. I would agree he's much more dangerous from headers.
