  1. Re the above, I now think we'd be safe with a victory for us, Hearts and anything but a draw at Easter Road. If Hibs beat Thistle the Jags would need to beat Hearts and draw with County to get to 38 points. That would mean that Hibs and County couldn't both get to 38 points as County would need a win over Hibs and Hibs would need a draw. I'm going to stop thinking about this now.
  2. It is a bit of a head spin but I think I've cracked it. We will be safe next weekend if we win, Hearts beat Killie and Thistle win at Hibs. Killie would need to beat us and Hibs in their last 2 games to catch us which would mean Hibs couldn't also catch us. Even if Thistle don't beat Hibs it would take an almost exact set of results to see us finish 11th on goal difference if we beat County and Hearts beat Killie so we would be 99.9% safe. For the anoraks like myself those results would need to be; Killie beat us and Hibs Thistle beat Hearts Hearts beat us Hibs take exactly 4 points from their matches v Thistle and County County take exactly 4 points from their matches v Hibs and Thistle Thistle take exactly 1 point from their matches v Hibs and County My head is still spinning so if anyone spots a mistake please point it out.
  3. I know what you said but I'd have thought someone who has to have their opinion heard on all things Saints would be able to remember a significant victory over a good team that happened less than 18 months ago. It's not as if there have been many.
  4. Yes there is a big rebuilding job to be done but I see that as a positive. For whatever reasons this squad of players has under achieved this season and if the likes of Caley can build a new team almost every season and finish in the top 6 then there's nothing to stop us doing something similar.
  5. Erm we beat them 2-1 at home last season, in the Friday night match just before Xmas.
  6. As always a very tricky race to call but it's Monbeg Dude for me with the chances of Walkon and Chance Du Roy also respected at big prices.
  7. Yes jpg, the only disagreement I had with your post was the conjecture over how many points Thistle and County may get. To me that is highly dependant on our results against them. If we do beat them both we may not need 38 points to finish in the top 10 whereas if we don't then we are highly likely to need around 38 points and highly unlikely to get them. I agree that beating them both doesn't guarantee anything but it does significantly increase our chances of avoiding the play-offs.
  8. I think there is a case for saying Saints haven't brought a lot to the SPL. We are perennial bottom feeders and as a club seem content with that situation, so long as we don't get relegated. Although given our current plight and the inactivity of the BoD regarding it you could maybe delete the relegation clause. Personally as someone who has been following the team since the late 60's I find the lack of ambition at the club quite depressing but I have reluctantly come to accept that we have accepted our status as a small club and unless we find ways of generating more income we are destined to spend our time in the lower reaches of the SPL or in the Championship.
  9. The number of points we need to avoid 2nd bottom is dependant on who we take them from and is very difficult to estimate with any accuracy at this stage because of that. All I would say at this stage is that unless we win this Saturday then it will be very difficult to finish above 11th place unless we beat both Thistle and County after the split. Personally I hope County and Thistle have to face Hibs and Killie straight after the split, whilst these teams are still in the mix. It may be easier to play against them in the last couuple of fixtures if they are safe by then.
  10. Such as Steve Galloway and Steve Kinsey.
  11. I'd even rather have kept Imrie than take Wylde. There's no point in being able to run fast if your first touch means you lose the ball anyway or if you either hit the first defender or the far side corner flag with your cross.
  12. I watched the match on Alba at 11pm without knowing the score and I thought he should have been subbed too. Surely for the players safety he should have been taken off and if the medical experts disagree, then do it for the teams sake. In the lead up to the goal I was saying "here comes Goody's yellow card" expecting him to take the guy out if he couldn't get the ball. I don't think he was feeling right or he wouldn't have been out-muscled so easily.
  13. He contributed nothing the whole game and his delivery from corner kicks was awful. Why is he even taking them? McGinn or McLean would provide far better delivery.
  14. Regardless of how much we were offered for him?
  15. Well done Elvis, you have now demonstrated that you know nothing about betting to go along with knowing nothing about how to be positive. To try to aid your understanding, I have a similar half-question for you; Should St Mirren sell John McGinn?
  16. Elvis tell us what the price is then maybe you can get an answer. How can you possibly expect anyone to commit to a bet without knowing what price they are getting?
  17. Simply not good enough. The better team won but why did we start so slowly in the 2nd half? The warning signs were there before half time and the team should have been prepared for an early 2nd half onslaught but it seemed to catch us by surprise. And why wait so long to bring Campbell on?
  18. Won't make it to the game, anyone know if any Paisley pubs will be open to show this match from the start?
  19. No they don't. It's only penalties that applies to.
  20. Nicholson's dive in the first half was even worse...................
  21. I'd rather we signed Jeremy Irons than Novo.
  22. That would be right if there wasn't the broader issue of a squad that has been stripped back to the bare bones for no apparent reason.
  23. Maybe I worded it badly. What I meant was we should have been strengthening the squad regardless of what result we got at Tynecastle. I'm utterly sickened tonight. I think we will struggle badly to avoid the playoff and to be honest the club deserves to be in that position because the other teams in the fight are trying to improve their squads and we just seem to be trying to cut costs.
  24. I don't think it matters what the results are in the next 2 games, we should never have allowed the squad to become so threadbare. A couple of injuries to key men and we will be heading for the play-offs. We may end up there anyway even if we get a couple of signings now. Worrying times.
