  1. Sorry BaldyOzBud, not Carriagehill, but its pretty well known even if Buds do not recognise it
  2. Dammit saintnextlifetime - you just ruined an urban myth I was trying to generate (not the one about the League Cup - that is a FACT) .
  3. In 1840 the Railway men took the advice of the Brahan Seer (see Bluto's post elsewhere) and named their nice new Station in the centre of Pailsey as Gilmour St Station in honour of our current chairman. Pic 135. It was a main componenet on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow,_Paisley,_Kilmarnock_and_Ayr_Railway . I no longer live in Paisley and only occasionally use Gilmour St but always think of it as a wonderful building. I can rememebr a journalist commenting on the exit signs which state 'Way Out Town Centre' - has Paisley town centre ever been that way out? Always thought it was kind of conservative myself. Have many happy memories as a kid heading to to the Ayrshire coast for a holiday and seeing the sea for the first time then later in life getting the last train home from a drunken night out in Glasgow.
  4. Willie Miller and Ginger Spence were raving about us on the radio yesterday - 'tearing Utd apart', 'only one team in it', 'attacking controlled football' etc, etc. We have just got to keep that going in the rest of the games and come up with a different strategy for the last 10 mins.
  5. There goes the last honest politician. Enjoy your new life Tony and give that Maggie what for - she has had it too easy on the other side.
  6. And the Clue for PIC 135. There should be no-one in Paisley who doesn not know this!
  7. Rumours of my demise have been greatly exagerated My apologies for the long delay in posting. My workload has been extremely busy the last few months but there are still plenty in store in this wee series. So, back on track with no pun intended ... PIC 134 is indeed the railway bridge over Underwood Rd. B Listed. Built in 1840 for the Paisley-Greenock line. 3 arches. Also supports St Mirren
  8. Just before Xmas everyone on here was talking about what a great team Utd were, how shit we were and how we were going to get humped. And we all know what happened next
  9. Thanks FTOF for the excellent article by Iain Macwhirter in the Herald. Love this quote from him ... 'Being lectured on public responsibility by banks is like being lectured on childcare by paedophiles'.
  10. I have quite enjoyed having a Saturday off. Laid back, no stress and catching up with loads of stuff with good tunes in the background. Peaceful - a change for a Saturday!
  11. Mclean is a bit of an enigma for me. The guy undoubtedly has some great talent but I also thought there were many parts of his game that were very poor. For me he had more ineffective games than effective games which was a source of great frustration knowing that there is a talent in there. However against Kilmarnock I finally saw it all come together and he played for me the best 90 mins he ever done in a St Mirren shirt and his all round talent showed through. MOM by a mile. If he keep that up he can get to the very top otherwise he will disappear into obscurity like Any Dorman. Maybe he has turned a corner and if so he will be a massive asset over the rest of the season. Appartently he was superb in the U21 game so maybe it has all clicked and he now has responsibility, appetite and workrate to match his ability. Kenny is still young. If he keeps up his very recent form another year for us he will have a huge queue of top clubs after him. At this stage of his career he needs to play every week and not be part of a large Championship pool. For his sake and ours I would like him to stay but I am sure Ipswich will be offering substantially more than us even if he only ever played for their reserve team.
  12. It would have been 4 players if we hadn't released Slater 2 years ago. Well done to the youngsters - they all deserved it.
  13. On paper you are quite right Lex. Hardly a disaster. I think the problem was not so much being beaten but not giving a good account of ourselves against a team that could have been beaten and looked very ordinary. Some individuals had stinkers and should maybe not have been in the starting 11 (eg Newton who has been poor for weeks now) and many seemed like amateurs in their passing and closing down and defending. Tactics, or maybe the personnel trying the tactics, were clearly not working but changes made were far too little and far too late. I thought we were lucky to go in all-square at half-time but we did not turn up for the second half and were overran IMHO. Kello saved us from a more significant final score. Overall a day of great frustration. If both teams had played well then I could have accepted the score more easily. But such a poor performance against an ordinary team was hard to take. Even with a reduced squad we had the players to win that game or at least give a far better account of ourselves.
  14. I reckon we have DL to the end of the season regardless. If he was fired just now we have to find compensation. To recruit someone else we have to find compensation. Most decent managers would not want to jump ship at the moment (Hartley excepted - bad timimg there), as they would probably want to finish the job they started eg Ian Murray at Dumbarton. And with no-one in mind it would take too long to get someone in with important games having to be played in the meantime. Of course we could ask Thommo to take over on a temp basis until the summer. He probably has total respect from the dressing room but has no experience and playing and managing may be too much. I think the Board are in a difficult situation over this and will wait it out.
  15. Yawn ..... Can we move this to the Totally Ignore thread?
  16. Unfortunately Jim is a marked man with the opposition falling about all over the place within 2 feet of him. I do not think Jim is in a position to dive in to any tackle and thought he tackled pretty well today. It was just his final pass was a bit poor but there were many in the team ahead of him with that honour.
  17. Teale gives width and commitment - something sadly lacking. Great to see him back again.
  18. On the radio yesterday they were discussing to-day's match. I can't remember who it was but someone said that we he looks at the St Mirren squad he is really surprised where we are in the League as our squad looks capable of easily being in the top six. I agree with him. We generally have a decent squad (except maybe CBs) IMHO but seem to have something seriously wrong about the setup. For example I think McGowan is a top notch player but in our team he is poor. I am sure if he went to Motherwell for example he would be a standout. Something has to be fixed. And soon.
  19. Thought we were really poor. Terrible defence who do not know how to clear a ball. Many who seem incapable of a simple pass. Poor workrate and don't know how to close a man down. Well beaten I thought. Only good thing was DD who looks like he can be a player.
  20. United dont need to fight for the ball - we just give them it constantly....
  21. Think we need Campbell for Newton. Conor is having a poor game IMHO.
  22. Nice wee article in the Scotsman .... http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/latest/st-mirren-s-eric-djemba-djemba-on-marc-vivien-foe-1-3299667
