  1. You got to love the BBC. They report Thompson has been credited with the goal and his tally is now six and have the list of top scorers next to the article and a couple of days later it still shows 5.
  2. Mair for Goodwin. Mair's distribution is the best out of the central defenders we have. He is also commanding in the air.
  3. Unfortunately his later time with us distanced him from the fans with his defensive and boring tactics. We were set up not to lose and we experienced many defensive boring draws which kept us up but was uninspiring to watch. He did manage to get some good signings some of which didnt work out which went against him (Craig Dargo). However he should get loads of credit for gaining promotion, a Cup Final and keeping us in the top League. After six (?) years with us it was clear we were not improving any and for all concerned it was maybe best to part company. I wish him all the best. He did a good job for St Mirren even if he distanced himself from the supporters.
  4. This is worth a thread of its own. Loved his music for more years than I care to remember but he is the most crabit and unsmiling human being on the planet besides most posters on this forum
  5. I totally respect your viewpoint Drew. I wear a poppy and am humbled to stand in silence for 2 mins once a year. My motivation is a mark of respect for ALL people killed in war past or present; civilian or soldier; 'our side' or 'their side'. It helps me to also remember the insanity of war and the countless suffering, maiming, torment and destruction (people, homes, buildings and animals) that occurs due to politics. Poppy Day or no Poppy Day I will always give 2 mins of my time in remembrace of the above. I would however like the 'remit' of the occassion to be expanded to include all of the above - an Anti-War Day.
  6. Congrats. Hope Santa is bring a XXXS strip for him ...
  7. Bastard! The only Sunday i have other arrangements made and they change the game to this. Hope its on Alba
  8. I applaud in principle what PT are doing in regard letting some people in for free but like others would like to see this expanded to other groups possibly more worthy. I have a friend who is a paramedic and believe they are very worthy of free admission to games. Likewise nurses and firemen that I KNOW have saved lives. Or carers or counsellors or ..... I feel limitation to Armed Forces personnel makes the offer smack of politics and jingoism.
  9. Does the winner just walk into the shop and say they are Div or whoever wins this? If so the first one in the shop is really Shull
  10. Good to hear some great recognition of Lou's passing and his influence on music. Even BBC Scotland news was playing song excerpts and having interviews. Maybe some of the younger readers wont know much about Lou as he wasn't exactly mainstream music but his lyrics and subjects were cutting edge and influenced so many. Try New York or the miore commercial Transformer as well as some of the Vevet Undergroound stuff.
  11. Looks like it Ken. Maybe the Mods would be so kind to merge these two threads ...
  12. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lou-reed-velvet-underground-leader-and-rock-pioneer-dead-at-71-20131027 What a legend. Sad news indeed. Enjoy your walks on the wild side Lou. Edit to add.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wNknGIKkoA
  13. Sorry Lethal. Hope I get an invite to the house warming (not the 1993 variety of the superintenent's house !!!)
  14. Some more of the Dykebar buildings. The 3rd one is the Nurses Home but I am unsure of the exact use of some of the others. Some look boarded up which is a great pity as they are fine looking and solid buildings. Others look little used. The new buildings were the only ones with any great sign of activity.
  15. PICTURE 133 is indeed the superintendent's house at Dykebar. Well done Vambo57 and Lethal 89. B Listed. Built 1909 and designed by who else - the great TG himself. Dykebar was built as the Renfrew District Asylum; a colony-type mental hospital with several separate buildings. Newer buildings have been added. Dykebar was built to serve Renfrewshire with the exception of the burghs of Paisley and Johnstone, both of which already had mental hospital provision. When opened, the hospital comprised the central administration block plus hospital admission wings on each side, two male and two female villas and a reception house, together with medical superintendent's house and the service buildings, and the lodge. In 1914, the nurses' home and a further two villas were added to the site. Large additions opened 1975. The superintendent's house was firedamaged in 1993. Someone had plans drawn up in 2008 to buy and re-instate the building for use as a private home but withdrew their offer. So, grab yourself a bit a local history guys as it is still for sale . I have some shots of the other buildings which I'll upload.
  16. Everyone is a freelance journo these days Div . Especially on here
  17. I would play Cornell if he was showing an amazing attitude in training with bossing his box, organising his defense and taking responsibilty for any ball coming anywhere near him. However I would not play him if the only reason is that he is feeling a wee bit upset with a drop in confidence.
  18. The Uni is a lot more than 850. More like double that amount.
  19. Was at Crosbie, Stills and Nash last Monday at the Armadillo. Great gig. How many of today's musicians will still be playing to large audiences in 40 years time?
  20. Politically there are two subjects that I have pretty strong views about 1. is nuclear weapons and 2. is nuclear energy, green sustainable power and the environment.. These rise above political parties for me. Another subject close to my heart is positivity. You either live in fear of everything from not getting a result on a Saturday to we are doomed if we change anything. People have a terrible fear of change even though a current situation is bad for them. Or you live in hope where you embrace change and see opportunities. Some years ago I was in Dublin then travelled around Eire for two weeks was very impressed with the positivity of the people and the 'can do' attitude. They took on personal responsibility and blamed no-one but themselves for their lot. At the end of the day we can all argue about economy, taxes, border patrols and other such detail but the bottom line is what does your intuition tell you based on the knowledge and experience you do have? I'll be voting Yes.
  21. Picture 133 is below. It is B Listed and now in the Buildings At Risk Register which is no wonder considering the state it is in. Unfortunately it was set on fire by some bampots a few years ago. Someone did offer to renovate it relatively recently but sadly the deal fell through. Where is it?
  22. Picture 132 is the Abbey Mission Hall in Lawn St. Only C Listed and considering it was the great TG himself that designed it surely it should be at least a B ? Built in 1893 on the site of a previous school. Still used today as the Church Hall for the Abbey.
  23. I saw the Harry Papadopoulus exhibition when it was on at Streetlevel in Glasgow and am looking forward to seeing Jack Vettriano. Yesterday I visited the Kaunus Street Photography and LT Pinhole Exhibition at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine. Its just a pity there are not more exhibition venues for the wonderfully diverse work out there which goes unnoticed. The HAC in Irvine has historically showcased local photographers and artists but if they are having a policy change to show more international work then there are few few other venues avaiable for local new artists. They used to allow loca artists to mount an exhibition for a two week slot and there is currently a waiting list of over a year. I would like for example Paisley Museum to have a similar room where locals artists of all genres can display their work for a week or two week slot.
