  1. Besides the result it was a pretty decent game today. We had by far the best chances in the first half and they had a great wee player in their No 19. No keeper had a real save to make though in spite of the reasonable football on offer. After Boyd scored we totally dominated of course and had numerous chances but fair play to Sammy who had two brilliant saves to keep us out. Darren is maybe not the greatest full back or passer but his height and aggression were welcome and he fed Teale which is something that DVZ doesnt do enough of. Contrary to others I thought Mclean was pretty ghost-like especially in the first half but improved a wee bit in the second half. At least we have another player available. Gowser was playing oh-so-deep which is a waste IMHO. Newton was great. So glad he is back with us. Overall a decent game but disappointing result.
  2. PICTURE 129 is the Scottish Episcopal Curch of The Holy Trinity & St Barnabas. Now on the one-way system at the start of Love St. Built 1833. Appears to be unlisted. Originally the Holy Trinity with the Episcopal Church in Queen St (St Barnabas) merging with the Holy Trinity in 2004. Further info here.... http://www.paisley.org.uk/paisley-history/church-holy-trinity-st-barnabas/ I am sure I am not alone in walking past that church for more years than I care to remember every second Saturday and not even knowing its name.
  3. You must be very, very young if you believe that. Try going to places like Cowdenbeath on a wet Saturday in January then decide if this is the worst time in our history. Believe it or not it is one of the best times in our history!
  4. Like everyone else I am gutted about yesterday but its over now. We apparently played ok in the first half and could have been ahead away from home in a fixture that doesnt usually give us a lot of joy. Thats a positive. I honestly think we have some very good players in our first eleven that other clubs would be delighted to have. Another positive. Our squad is light but with a few new faces and ironing out a formation that suits who we have I reckon we can push on this year. We may not be happy with the way things are at the moment but Pat Fenlon was booed off the pitch by his home support today. I reckon Hibs supporters are more unhappy than we are with some justification. 4 Clubs got beat weekend so its not just us. We can get better as we have something solid to build on unlike Hearts for example. Its not all doom and gloom. Hopefully the next two weeks will bring in the reinforcements we require KTF
  5. Young players get their chance by being in the squad and starting off with 10 mins here and there - either when we are winning or in our case when we are desperate with 10 mins to go. That then extends to longer appearances as a sub for an injury or a tactical change. Some should be on the bench and getting wee chances to see how they cope. If, like McGinn, they show up extremely well and prove they also have the physical capability then they maybe get a starting spot. I have seen Brady, Reilly, Yacoub and Naismith play and they all look potentially first team players in time. However, IMHO, they are not ready for SPL football week in, week out. Have 3 on the bench every week and if we can give them a runout but the first eleven and at least half the bench should be players with more experience and a greater physical presence. We can still compete and blood youngsters but a team of youngsters will be under too much pressure and will get us relegated. Edit to Add: I am talking about Scottish youngsters. Dummet and Newton are also young but physically much more powerful than our home grown talent. They dont get bullied out of games.
  6. Yes. The park was longer than we anticipated.....
  7. 'Carey looking excellent' ...Billy Dodds, BBC.
  8. Imrie having a great game for Morton apparently ......
  9. Shows how thin the squad is when Robertson is on the bench as he has not featured at all in pre-season games.
  10. Come on guys. We are 15 points above the team that is bottom! No need to panic. Yet

  12. Maybe McShane was injured last season but he only got 4 starts for Accies and scored 1 goal.
  13. I agree their ability is streets ahead of ours Drew. However when they had the ball the Newcastle players were all running around giving options for the player with the ball. When they moved forward they moved as a team with loads in support. They passed quickly and forward. We on the other hand stood still shouting for the ball and not making space or runs or we did not chase back and mark properly. We looked static and unfit compared to them (IMHO). We were ok for the first 20 minutes but after that I thought some of our players looked very slow compared to Newcastle. I did enjoy the show tonight and expected a football lesson but was just a bit disappointed in the rift between the teams in terms of movement and running. Maybe its not fitness but tactics.
  14. Good workout and good to see a Premiership team at home. They played us off the park but my biggest disappointment was they looke miles fitter than us. Maybe we cannot match them for skill but I was hoping we could match them for stamina but it was far from it. Maybe we are saving ourselves for Saturday but our fitness looked pretty poor to me.
  15. Add McGowan and its 3 great bits of business. Especially McGowan
  16. Possibly . There were 3 of us. A fantastic day for a paddle. Sunshine, water like a sheet of glass and plenty of wildlife. Coffee at Fintry Bay Tearooms. Ice cream in Millport. 5 Hours of relaxed exercise. Pity I have to start going to the fitba again too soon
  17. I kayaked round Cumbrae today and thought the same when I logged in here
  18. One big problem with the back four (including Cheesy but just not him) is the time they take to get the ball forward. That may be due to DL's instructions of course. I am all for keeping possession but you can still play forward and keep possession and not just play it side to side until the opposition can pull all their players back. I reckon Teale feels like I do. For a quiet guy he is often screaming at the back four to get the ball to him or into space in front of him but he is mostly ignored. Teale is in my opinion the most effective player we have. He gets the ball, beats the defence and gets his crosses in. The back four should be getting the ball to him quickly and often. Why do they or the management team not see this?
  19. That was PICTURE 120, the Garage on Mansionhouse Road if anyone wants to look back....
  20. I have been in a few countries over the last few years where the standard mode of transport is a wee bike or moped (Cambodia, Viet Nam). So 2 years ago I bought a wee Honda 125 just to cruise about (slowly) on the highways and byways of sunny Ayrshire in good weather. At my age I am not interested in speed but the feeling of freedom is great even at 40mph. And hopefully it means if I go to Asia again or similar places I will have the confidence to rent a wee bike. Like you LS I reckon I couldnt handle a big bike and am quite happy on my wee Honda.
  21. PICTURE 129 CLUE .......... (Everyone on here should know this one )
  22. Picture 128 is the former Glencoats Hospital East Lodge in Blackstoun Rd. B Listed. Built 1891. Architect HJ Blanc (Coats Memorial, Ferguslie Stables & Lodge House & St James' Church). Now a nursery although it looks like Colditz.
