  1. Nigel I would take back. Definitely offers something different, and every season he chips in with at least half a dozen goals despite a decent chunk of his appearances being from the bench. Still only 23 as well.
  2. In the news today that Hemmings is off to the US MLS for a trial with Orlando. Hearts and Dundee supposedly interested as well.
  3. Going by the first page that means new deals being offered to: Dilo Kello McGowan McGregor McLean Yaqub Missed anyone? Don't know about Yaqub, but couldn't argue with the others.
  4. Championship POTY and 24 goals in 36 starts playing for a team who finished 2nd bottom. There will be plenty of teams willing to take the risk..... Maybe he will head back down south though.
  5. I like the look of him. Strong, quick, can finish. Out of contract with Cowdenbeath, I reckon he will get a deal with somebody in the Premiership.
  6. Great video here. Check out the guy in the brown suit: GoPro // St Johnstone fans react to Scottish Cup …: http://youtu.be/XEM0Ig5ca5U Hugs his sons, hugs his mates, checks his watch to see how long there is to go, looks skywards and celebrates a bit more. I think that it is what Thommo would call a cathartic experience. You can tell that guy's put up with decades of dross in the hope that moment would come along.
  7. Just 9 games he started for us. Not many creative, goalscoring midfielders who are proven at this level and we will most likely be losing McLean. Maybe TC has other ideas, but I would give Harkins another chance.
  8. They paid Aberdeen 400K for Ryan Fraser last year....
  9. Really impressed with TC in this interview. Talks well. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/st-mirren/275277-tommy-craig-unveils-st-mirren-vision-and-insists-no-rift-with-lennon/
  10. Thought Steven was going for a moneyspinner in Malaysia if he couldn't get another deal in Oz?
  11. Will be interesting to see where the signings come from. There have been so many recently from outside of Scotland that haven't worked out. Perhaps TC will focus more on players in our own leagues. Lyle Taylor, Kane Hemmings, Callum Morris?? Stevenson would be an ideal replacement for McLean, but you can see him heading to maybe Motherwell or Aberdeen.
  12. Chick's little cameo didn't do anything to allay fears that there could be fallout from this dressing room. SG - much as you would expect.
  13. Also worth bearing in mind how long ago this was: "We have been successful in making sure St Mirren is one of the very few teams in the country with the financial stability to progress in the future. We believe it is now an appropriate time for us to move on, for someone else to take St Mirren forward and for the club to benefit from an injection of new energy, new ideas and new expertise. As individuals and board members, we recognise we couldn't go on forever and we want to make an orderly transition to having new people in charge who can make sure St Mirren continues to develop as a successful football club and business. We expect a significant amount of interest in this controlling block of shares. We won't necessarily accept the highest offer. Before we sell to anyone, we will make sure the people buying a controlling interest have the good of St Mirren at heart and the resources and expertise to take the club forward. We would hope to conclude the sale of shares by the opening of the next transfer window at the beginning of January 2010." SG, September '09. Coming up to 5 years ago that the club was put up for sale. The board thought they would be well out of it now and although delighted by the cup win, the Richard Atkinson business and other failed takeover bids will have taken their toll. I suppose there must be a point where you stop caring so much, decision-making falters, etc. SG and co. could not have done any more for the club, but a fresh start is desperately needed now for all parties.
  14. Members of the board appeared to have told journalists months ago that DL was going to lose his job. That shouldn't have happened, and Danny certainly has that to feel sore about. Meanwhile, rumours of dressing room unrest, season ends, manager out one day and his assistant, captain and a.nother in the next... hmm. It doesn't look great from the outside. I just hope a line has been drawn under all of this at the club, there's no rancour, and we can go on and have a good season.
  15. I think they will need a decent one to be honest. "Danny was the problem but we got rid" seems to be the message to the fans. A start like last season and "ehh hang on a minute" will be the response of many. The board and management will be under pressure pretty quickly
  16. More a military coup than a change of manager. Interesting point from billyg above: This whole affair is more than a bit whiffy, and it wouldn't surprise me if at least TC (and perhaps all 3 of them) knew what was going to happen weeks or months ago. On Sportsound last night, Tom English said that the St Mirren board had been "privately briefing" journalists some time ago that Lennon would not continue as manager. Michael Stewart also said he'd heard noises than players were not happy with Danny. It all seems a bit rotten. I just hope that this is an end to whatever has gone on and everyone's happy. If there has been a bit of plotting going on though then there may well be some senior figures in the dressing room who are not best pleased with this. Will be interesting to see who gets new contracts. For the board... relatively expensive contract ends > bump up the wages of TC, GT, JC slightly > money saved.
  17. If it's Tommy Craig then it really makes me wonder what kind of shenanigans have been going on behind the scenes. Maybe he's had the ear of the Chairman the past 6 months. SG and TC certainly looked friendly on Saturday (SG and DL less so): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7hVgWdXc20 from 1:00
  18. Unfortunately the Tommy Craig signing that sticks out is Lewis Guy.
  19. Was there not something in the news quite recently about new rules being put in place for managers? You need to have a certain level of coaching badge to be allowed to manage a club in Scotland? Maybe it was England. Anyway, the Thommohawk is, according to the Express this morning, still in the process of doing his badges. That could rule him out of the top job for now? At this point in time I think it would be a mistake anyway. His sportscene persona is what we usually see, but he's still very much one of the boys. Would be difficult for him to make the transition and, to be honest, I think he might say himself that he's not ready yet. There's also the fact that we need to get as much out of Thompson on the park for as long as we can. For the time being, it probably benefits us that the extent of his coaching is a few trips to Largs.
  20. Views on him when he left them: http://www.weareperth.co.uk/wapforum/index.php?/topic/19813-goodbye-and-thank-you-steve-lomas/
  21. Not been mentioned much but I would definitely be considering Steve Lomas. Rebuilt a St Johnstone team with some seemingly average players (Cregg, Nigel, Gary Miller, Steven Maclean, Tade, Rowan Vine) and took them to 3rd in the league and Europe.
  22. Disappointed for Danny and in the way the club have handled this. It's been messy since that SG interview on Wednesday night: poor PR for us and I think DL could have been treated better. Two 8th place finishes sandwiching a national cup win has not been and will not be bettered by many St Mirren managers. My abiding memory of Danny will be his reaction to Newton's goal at Hampden. He turned round to the stands to watch the fans celebrate and just take in. When he knew we were going to win it the fans were first in his thoughts. A genuine guy who made mistakes but who always tried to put out a team who played good football with homegrown talent in it. Not to forget as well the way he acted as an ambassador for the club, visiting primary schools and so on. The story about the wee girl and the lucky penny that Danny rubbed during the Celtic game.... Cheers Danny. All the best for the future.
  23. And Terry Butcher finished 4th in the SPL with ICT. He's the man to take Hibs to the next level.... Whoever the alternative is it's a roll of the dice. Stick with Danny I say.
  24. Or start Danny on 12 month rolling contracts as they did with Gus.
  25. Conjecture but based on the SG/DL radio interviews and club statement... 1. Danny has been told nothing. 2. If the board were 100% agreed on him going then it would have been announced before today. 3. The decision will be made on Monday. If it was cut and dried then why have the board delayed? Doesn't make any sense. If the decision genuinely hasn't been made then I wouldn't be surprised if DL stayed on the back of today. 8th place confirmed, more fans warming to him remaining and the baffled reaction of football people out with the club. A compromise of 1 year for Danny, rather than 2 for someone else would be quite convenient for a selling board, too.
