  1. A very fair point but ours is not to question. The authority of the court has been passed and the decision is 130 hours community service after the Sheriff has considered all the facts. Considering he (Paul McGowan) already had a previous conviction for assaulting a constable my initial reaction is that the sentence is very lenient, very lenient indeed. All things said and done however it is now time to move on. Paul McGowan is an adult and if he fails to behave like one in future then I am sure the justice system will not be so lenient. As the sentence is not a custodial one then I see no reason why this would affect his employment with our glorious club and hopefully young Paul and the club can move on from here to better and brighter things. So my message to Paul is this "Learn your lesson you wee ned and get on with playing football for my club. You almost lost it all so wisen up, lead a better life in future and be a man my son, be a man."
  2. Ah the memories Shull. I have just received an e-mail from a rather smarmy git advising me that the St Mirren kit is now in stock and available online. I have checked and it looks like it is there. Of course I am not giving JD sports a penny of my pensionable income.
  3. What is more I shall spend the preceding evening eating lots of cabbage and drinking lots of out of date cabbage juice to make my shit really stink, I shall also consume some peanuts and carrots just to make sure it is entirely recognisable in the photographs that will undoubtedly appear in the press afterward. Maybe we could co-ordinate a shit bombing by targeting Paisley, Braehead and Silverburn simultaneously!!!!! I remember getting my first St Mirren top (it was a real one, you couldn't really buy them then) and I remember the joy of getting it to this very day, after all these years I remember it. Just an amazing memory and even though I was way too wee to wear it I did at every opportunity. This year young St Mirren fans were denied that very opportunity by these bastards. I hate them for the sake of our young fans, hate them indeed.
  4. This whole JD sports debacle perturbs me somewhat, perturbs me indeed. I have taken the liberty of e-mailing JD sports and demanding an explanation but alas no-one has replied, has replied not indeed! Anyway I would urge all fellow forum user's to contact this shoddy and unworthy group of high street charlatans and register disgust be it via bookface, bebo or the tweeter app that I have on my phone but do not know how to use. This JayDee lot do not deserve the honour of having the name of JD sports on our stadium, do not deserve it at all, at all indeed! The thought of young fans of our beloved and wonderful club not receiving that St Mirren playing kit on Christmas day really does bother me. I may pretend to be senile and go in and smear my own shit all over the display of overpriced sandshoes such is my disdain.
  5. That was one of the most stupidly poor idiotic buffon type football management performances from our Mr Lennon tonight. Just so bloody thick and stupid. Our glorious team were well in control come half time. One injury to the young Cheesemeister could have been easily rectified by bringing on Lee Mair, simple and obvious to anyone. IF Lee Mair picked up some sort of injury then the obvious solution would have been to move young Naismith into centre half and put David Van Vanten in at right back. The shape of the team remains relatively unaffected. I simply fail to understand why our Mr Lennon thought it in any way credible to play DVZ beside Jim Goodwin in midfield whilst moving to a back three with our left back (Danny Grainger) playing as a centre half. The fact is we had two left backs on the park but no-one playing at left back. My teeth almost flew out in an angry rage when I saw Gary Harkins come onto the park to replace Paul McGowan. A stupid act as wee Gowser was contributing to the game whilst both Mr Goodwin and DZV just conspired to get in folks way. If I was in suitable distance of our Mr Lennon tonight I would have struck him on the head with rolled up newspaper repeatedly whilst shouting "what are you doing you stupid boy". A game we should have won but our team were hamstrung by our manager today.
  6. I thought James Goodwin was having a great game until he was taken off. I understand the reason's for it though as Dundee Utd were clearly instructed to target him and after what I thought was a very soft yellow card Mr Goodwin was on the preverbial "thin ice". Anyway he was having a great game.
  7. Ah I was confident that some of the detail in my old mind may not be exactly what the historical record has, well recorded. In fact I was certain of it. In the style of Morecambe and Wise I may have played all the right notes, just not in the right order! Anyway in a "doffing of the cap" to the valued input I have made some corrections to my previous post. I do hope you find the accuracy to be somewhat more in line with hard fact and I look forward to receiving your input on any further ammedices that need to be amended (I just made a word up, Merry Christmas Bulto). Merry Christmas
  8. Thank you for pointing that out my eagle eyed forum friend, thank you indeed. After typing out what I did not expect to be just such a long post I did give it the old once over or a proof read if you will and I failed to spot my mis-stewartism. In all honestly I was expecting to be highlighted for a more glaring error such as having the series of events in the wrong order but alas I am content that the content seem to be in order.
  9. Ah yes I agree with the initial sentiments of Mr Hughes in his blue suede shoes as stated above, agree indeed. I am going to repeat some of the very good points that Mr Hughes made but I shall do it in a slightly differing format as I feel it is of the upmost importance that our fan base, particularly the teenagers amongst our number appreciate what we have been through since the last great national cup win of the year of 1987. *Finished bottom of the Premier league but saved from relegation due to league reconstruction *Again finish bottom and we are heartbreakingly relegated. *We immediately hit a financial brick wall and many of our star players were immediately released to save our club from extinction *Despite having some fine players such as Norrie McWhirter and Paul Lambert (and Robert Dawson) we travel to Raith Rovers and spend the first fifteen minutes singing "we're going to win the league" but are 4-0 down at half time (I think) and 7-0 at the final whistle. *Fail miserably to gain instant promotion to the Premier league *We exist firmly as a first division team and our financial crisis is fast becoming a life threating condition to our beloved club. *The boardroom is in turmoil and a certain Reg Brealey comes dangerously close to taking control of our club (the same man who ruined Darlington fc and had a warrant out for his arrest in India for maintaining a factory in such poor condition). *Mr Stewart Gilmour takes control of the club, the full extent of the financial mess is revealed and we are facing an almost impossible task in saving our club. *The financial mess threatens closure of our club at any moment, Smisa is set up who initially pay for things such as clean towels for our players and a painter to paint the old lady that was Love Street, yes it really was that bad. *The prospect of part time football is becoming a real possibility as our beloved team now consistently fail to sign players due to clubs such as Ayr Utd often offering higher wages. *We tumble down the table and this culminates in a game at Stirling Albion where anything but a far from certain win will see us slide to the second division and certain part time football, we win 1-0 and cling onto first division status by the skin of our teeth. *At this point our chairman is talking openly about having to sell Love Street in order to save the club, if this doesn't happen it is all over. *Managerial changes abound we start the millennium season as second favourites for relegation, amazingly we win, win again and keep winning, in a season none of us thought possible and against all odds we actually win the first division and back to the SPL, what a night that was. *The euphoria fails to last as we blow a healthy lead over Dundee Utd and its back to the first division with us (some say as mant as 14 points). *This time we fair better in the first division, finishing in the top half each season until we yet again return to the top table of Scottish football and as a bonus we win the challenge cup along the way, what nights they were. *The Labour run Renfrewshire council do the upmost to scupper a perfectly good deal to save our club, our future is not secure after all. *Fan power and the political will of the Paisley public come to the fore as a vote is held at the Paisley district court on the deal to save our club, realising the weight of support is against them Renfrewshire council are forced into a U-turn and the deal to sell Love street is on, we might survive, in fact it looks like we will. *Our first season in the SPL is hard and only a miracle comeback against Motherwell see's us maintain our status, what a night that was. *Then onto the Falkirk years where we twice have to get results against Falkirk away to stay up, we do it, what nights they were. *A heart breaking but exciting moment arrives where we leave Love Street for the last time, I cried, and then moved into our new home, I cried. We reach the league cup final, a fairy tale is on, we play great, the evil Govan wrongdoers go down to 9 men, we cant lose but yet we do, hard to take. *In 2013 we are where we are, shiny new home, decent squad, a league cup run looks to end against a very strong Celtic side but we prosper, onto the final and the fairy tale is complete as our beloved team bring the Scottish league cup home to Paisley for the first time ever. What a long way we fell after 1987 and what a long we have risen. None of us know what the next quarter of a century hold for our club as the last one will illustrate. Celebrate and enjoy this as long as we can.
  10. As he has plead guilty that means that there will be no trial, as such we will never hear the full facts and quite frankly none of us need to hear them, the facts are entirely for the court to consider and where necessary punish. The exact circumstances are not the business of anyone on this forum to know. I agree that this is not a matter for the footballing authorities, it is entirely for a court to deal with. That said If young Paul gets himself a custodial sentence (a matter entirely for the court) then it remains to be seen as to whether or not our wonderful club stand by him as a player or abandon him on the footballing scrapheap. Most employer's would sack the individual involved. He has plead guilty, he will serve his sentence and repay his debt to society. Hopefully he will learn from it and lets keep our fingers crossed that our player can come through this with a lesson learned and a huge point to prove.
  11. He has already plead guilty so what story would one need to know? This is shameful behaviour, shameful indeed, The article I read states that our star midfielder has a previous conviction for Police assault. Could a custodial sentence be in the offing?
  12. Well that took care of my afternoon. What a thoroughly good watch, thoroughly good indeed although I do confess to swearing at the television set when David Hay appears at the end. Did anyone notice our glorious and righteous teams greatest ever player get a wee mention from Mr Bob Crampsie? Watch it again and marvel at the name of Dan McGarry. The Alex Linwood interview, the Davie Lapsley interview and the Tommy Bryceland interviews were just great, just great indeed. Made In 1991 eh? Really does not seem that long ago. An interesting thought is that many a young adult supporter of our great and good club will not even remember any of the character's now and will never have enjoyed the magic of seeing these guys ply the trade that is soccerball in person. How good would a "Marching in again" feature be whereby the history is picked up from where this great production ended. We could reminisce at the departure of that fraudster Davie Hay, wince at the debacle of the Jimmy Bone era (Raith Rovers game haunts me yet), the Iain Munro revolving door day of fiasco, the second coming of Tony the great Fitzpatrick, the Tom Hendrie era and onto the (as the Latin tongued folk would call it) seasonus miraculous et millennium. Onwards to the depression of the John Coughlin struggles before the Gus McPherson resurgence, the league cup of 2010 gut wrenching, the McPherson exit and the Mr Daniel Lennon appointment and onward to the St Mirrens day of 2013 and the image of the Thommohawk running arms outstretched toward the best of the Paisley people and the first time the town has ever welcomed the league cup to its trophy cabinet. Having just typed all of that It is obvious that the second instalment of our history really does have plenty of content and I did not even mention the leaving of Love Street. Edited: Actually I am going to add a little more. Since the making of that feature we have seen our great club lose by 7 to Raith Rovers, miss out on signings to the likes of Ayr Utd, come perilously close to the second division (and most likely bankruptcy), be second favourites for relegation but yet win the first division (the bubble didnae burst), suffer the pain of relegation, win the challenge cup, rejoice in the joy of again winning the first division, come from 2-0 down at Fir Park to cling onto top flight status, against all odds make a league cup final only to outplay the opposition but still lose to 9 men, go from losing to Clydebank, Airdrie, Dumbarton and Cowdenbeath to beating Rangers and Celtic, sometimes in style, reaching Hampden park again and this time brining the league cup back to Paisley and now we sit in our shiny new stadium (fairly) comfortably in Scottish footballs top tier. Yes fellow forum user's a lot has indeed happened since the making of that film, a lot indeed.
  13. Brilliant news, brilliant news indeed. Good to see this wonderful facility that our wonderful club has helped provide to our local community to be back up and running. The news really has pleased me, pleased me indeed.
  14. Buggering hell. Twenty years already? I still remember the kick off being delayed and still arriving after kick off just to stand in the pissing rain behind the goal to watch my beloved team get pumped. Following that game I spent three days in bed coughing up flem and shivering like our poster Somner when faced with an intelligent conversation. Dreadful experience that day and I can honestly say I have never stood outside to watch football since when a covered option is on offer, never!
  15. Ah Somner I see you are up to your usual low brow tricks again. I noticed the other day how you tried the exact same tactic with other poster's whom were exposing you as a hopelessly poor debater and all round unfit forum member. The tactic that I refer to is of course the endless trolling of a fellow forum member's previous posts and quoting them back in a hapless attempt to disguise your own lack of wit and all round contribution to the forum as a whole. At last you have evolved from the original simpleton tactic of just blatantly lying by calling your finer and better fellow forum user's unfounded names such as "part timer" and the such like. I do take sufficient amusement however in the thought of you keeping fellow poster's contributions in some of black book for future unfunny referral and also the countless hours you must spend endlessly perusing fellow poster's previous contributions for some sort of material to help you mask your complete lack of conversational ability. The thought that you have clearly spent about 30 hours reading my every contribution to this forum as some sort of security blanket to hide your poor grasp of the written word is something that amuses me somewhat. When one factors in the fact that I am not the only forum user whom you choose to target (presumably as a deflection from you actual admiration and as such is just common jealously) the amusement moves from just that into the realms of hilarity, entirely at your expense.
  16. Alex Linwood in the Summer cup semi final replay against Morton in 1943. It was at Hampden park and Morton really were the favourites with Stanley Matthews in the team. Our best player ever Mr Dan McGarry ran the show for much of the game but not even wee Super Dan could hold a candle to Alex Linwood that day. He ripped the Morton defence apart and finished with two goals. Football really was better in those days!
  17. Sorry to try and steer the conversation away from the Stu (I apparently have no interest in St Mirren but I cannot stay off this forum and I cannot help but post about them constantly) Dickson but does anyone have any news on exactly when we can expect to see this wonderful facility repaired and back in use? I would also be interested to know exactly what the catastrophic failure in the domes structure was and what has been done to remedy the situation. Obviously my footballing days are somewhat behind me but I maintain a keen interest in all things St Mirren professional football club pte ltd co and I hope to see the dome rise like a phoenix from the puddle of water on plastic that it is currently. The benefits are there to see on this very forum for I shortly beforehand read a post on another thread on this fine forum to the effect that the black and white army 5 a sides players have, through use of the facility bonded through football and become friends to the extent that Christmas nights out are being enjoyed. Unlike the poster who has tried to hijack the thread into his (I am assuming the poster behind the forum identity is male) usual negative nonsense I will not lie to you all but tell you that I am indeed a genuine St Mirren supporter and rather than deny it I am happy to shout it from the rooftops.
  18. We are approaching that time of year when we tend to look back at the previous 12 months and decide on such things as best poster best post best thread and the such like. The original poster has clearly made an attempt to gain nomination's in the categories of worst thread and pointless urine.
  19. Another that reminds of the women in my life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzNHsuiUMpM
  20. One more before I go for my dinner. Danced many a jig tae this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuQX7z2gERc In my day we all sang this tae the weans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uO9aeERILI I had a starter so Im back for bit, soup was braw. This is what you would now call a "mash up". The Calton weaver was a well kent song in the pubs of oor wee toon. The whisky well it ruined me like it will ruin you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUHDdcwmBVs This brings a lot back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55BmLynz2lE Im enoying this fellow posters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSQt37Q1Ins
  21. I will let you young pop pickers catch up but this little number was always a favourite of mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcFC57nT0xY
  22. This is a lovely song. A wife of mine sang this in Johnstone town hall. Lovely song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4LI5y2QxSk
  23. Undoubtedly I will tire of this before long but I wish to share some of musical favourites with you youngsters. When I listened to music people sung live and instruments were actually played. This one reminds me of my wives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HoL5n3mb1E
  24. Well my young fellow forum user's, well indeed. Today the chancellor of the wonderful and all is well UK government announced that the state pension will not be paid until one reaches the age of 68 years (for anyone in there 40's and below). As to why anyone would be stupid enough to believe the phrase "better together" is somewhat beyond me. Between them the Tory and the Labour have spunked our over taxed monies, jizzed it away, ejaculated it into the abyss! I am just grateful that my younger family members are Scottish and as such hope remains for them for the United Kingdom has never been in such a poor state and I recall many a poor state in my time. When Robert Bruce was crowned he wisnae crowned King of Scotland, naw, but created King of Scots proving that this land cannot be owned by any man but merely borrowed for the length of wan life span.
  25. Naughty, naughty Bulto. I was expecting a poetic masterpiece, a flow of words, a rhyme most divine if you will. It is my upmost fear that my favoured word master, grammatical magician if you will is beginning to lose his touch, waste his talent, rest on his laurel's. Anyway in answer to your meaningless insinuation I can assure the forum's collective that I never was a master of the secret art nor a brother of any organisation, indeed my only distinguishing accolade these days is that of a fellow of the season ticket holder's of Paisley's greatest club. Cheer up my Bulto as even the bard himself had such spells of unproductive hellish offerings but as in the bard himself your talent will once again flourish and reveal itself to us all and I for one sleep easy in that knowledge.
