  1. Ah yes. This reminds me of the full 20 months or so you were ‘choking’ for Jack Ross to fail... Tick tock, tick tock indeed sir.
  2. Very happy with that. Not always convincing but very gritty and determined. Mistakes like the Kpekawa/Samson for the penalty need cut out pretty quickly... although good save from the penalty king. Willock and Smith were standouts and Flynn had a bit of a game changing effect when he came on. On to Ibrox it is... hopefully with an experienced striker and a pacey winger to bolster us! ETA: Nearly forgot Danny Mullen - great for him to shut up his critics and prove he can cause a Premiership defence problems AND score a brace. Well Done Danny! Gavin who?
  3. Was hoping we’d go with the diamond formation again that worked so well last week. Unfortunately I can’t see Ross Stewart starting and we really have no other options in that area... Cammy up front? Stewart starting after all? Cooke getting unexpected game time? Flynn into midfield? Magennis in 10? 4-5-1? Who knows but it’s going to be a battle and there’s going to be a lot of discontent if we don’t get off to a flyer.
  4. This is not the 1990’s. If a player is available, an agent can have an email sent to every Premier League side in Scotland and all English League 1 clubs in England in a matter of an hour. Added into this that he spent last season on loan at Aberdeen, how can we exclusively flag up the availability of a player to a team, when that player has just returned from being on loan at said team? Does it not seem unrealistic to suggest that they had not had a discussion previously about the player’s plans for this year and were indeed fully aware of his availability all along?
  5. Heard about a youngster from the Premier League on loan... particularly close to Stubbs’ origins
  6. Ah yes, let’s spend £50K + our best striker currently, on a player who is a mid table Championship player at best and is scared of staying fit. Even £50K is too much for Shankland, laughable to even consider paying that much never mind the mentioned £300K! (Btw, where do people think we’re pulling that sort of money from. If we had that sitting around we’d not be in the position we’re in and we’d have the Adam Rooney’s of this world up front and definitely not be trialling players from the Racecourse against Sunderland)
  7. As a side note; this new found love for berating Danny Mullen is laughable. Easy to forget he is only 23 and is adjusting to this level as much as any other player (although so far in Pre-Season he has either been isolated or played completely out of position!) He is a significant upgrade on Gavin Reilly and without his footballing intelligence, tenacity and work rate in the last 6 months of the season i’m not sure we’d have won the league as comfortably as we did, however, a 15-20 goals a season striker he is not - this is Stubbs’ problem to address. Find a suitable prolific partner for Danny and play to both their strengths. ...with all that said I have no doubt the posters posting such nonsense are at the wind up to suit their agenda.
  8. If true it’s all gone very Brian Clough/Don Revie around here... the king is dead, long live the king.
  9. Really good, fair assessment of the current state of affairs i’d say
  10. No denying that we were woeful, that wasn’t the point being made.
  11. Disagree, their squad should walk through that league. Their youth players such as Honeyman, Gooch and Maja are top talents and are supplemented by a few Premier League quality players like Cattermole and Oviedo - who will stroll it at that level. Not to mention the few additions JR has made so far - McGeouch stood out at our level and Loovens is comfortably English Championship standard.
  12. Tesselaar and Dorman the only ones that spring to mind.
  13. Needs: Proven 15 goal a season Premiership striker, quick left winger, experienced box-to-box midfielder in the mould of Steven Thomson, experienced Premiership centre half. Would be nice: Commanding experienced goalkeeper, two-sided full back, pacy striker, strong and experienced holding midfielder... and a miracle. If only...
  14. Samson McGinn Baird Heaton Eckersley McGinn McPherson Flynn Smith Coulson Mullen Even that team doesn’t fill me with confidence. Few signings before then please and most important of all please play Adam Eckersley. Already looking at a must win in my opinion or it’s jacket shaky nail territory for Stubbs! ETA - Anybody know when Magennis is due back?
  15. Lighthearted banter being exchanged back and forth in my opinion - no genuine hatred intended on either side i’m sure. Anti-English chant was ironic given most of our new English imports though!
  16. Only pre-season but that was incredibly concerning. Very little to no; intensity, cohesion, leadership, positionsal awareness or attacking finesse. 4 or 5 good Top 8 Premiership standard players required within the next week or we’ll be down by February.
  17. Wasn't necessarily referring to you being overly negative in the original post or indeed the last one. Opinions are subjective and I respect that. Could also be argued Paul McGinn never really set the heather alight last season (i'm a fan of his, just making a point). Let's just hope McGinn, the other signings and any others yet to be made work out. COYS
  18. Being overly negative about everything Saints related at every opportunity necessary when we as fans have no control over the matter and should simply be supporting the new management team and relishing how good the last 18 months have been... unbelievable. Of our latest batch of signings it would appear some are more likely to succeed than others, by your reckoning King should automatically be the best because he's came from a club 4/5 levels above say Heaton? My point is no signing is a certainty to work out. If we want to be pedantic I could sit and name numerous different scenarios over the years.
  19. Unbelievable. "Why do we sign so many over the hill duds who are all too familiar up here. We should be modelling ourselves on Motherwell and ICT's respective recruitment policies. Get it sorted." *Club finally think outside the box and sign a handful of young unknown players to provide competition to an already fairly settled squad. Most of said signings are very highly thought of down south* "Oh actually, why don't we sign the Livingston captain and Nicky Clark? All these signings are unproven at this level" Every signing at our level is a risk; Steven Thompson was a high profile signing carrying an element of risk - it paid off. Eric Djemba-Djemba was a high profile signing carrying an element of risk - it didn't pay off.
  20. My bad, I think my geography failed me for a minute!
  21. Midfielder from another North East club playing in English Lower Leagues I believe.
  22. Good to see AS busy making forward moves for the season ahead, especially as part of what appears to be a clear plan. He has proven before he can spot a player and appears to be going down the Motherwell recruitment route; sure makes a change from days gone by of signing other SPFL castoffs, has-beens & never-beens. In Stubbs we trust.
