Always considered Carson as steady , does the simple things well , good with both feet and doesn't drop clangers . Think he could be better coming out for crosses . Zach Hemmings with a decent defence in front of him should be OK. Though I would love us to go for Vaclav on loan .

Could Ryan Flynn take over this role ?
-
I had hoped we might have made a move for Morton Full backs Liam Grimshaw and Lewis Strapp .

Seems I'm wrong and HSS is totally correct . I'm using old age as an excuse.

I seem to think Jimmy Bone just played through the summer in Hong Kong , and played for Hearts the season after he left St Mirren .

Squad 2023/24 Arrivals & Departures
MenstrieSaint replied to Ronnie's topic in General St. Mirren Discussion
I think that would be a decent fee , but disagree that he,s been awful . I think we had big expectations of him after the world Cup that didn't materialise , but he is still a consistent and steady performer who is able to.play at a higher level . -
AW gets back onto the board but is still barred from the stadium. I would vote for that .

Squad 2023/24 Arrivals & Departures

I'm thinking Shaunessy and Dunne will be top of Jim Goodwins shopping list and will end up at Tannadice , Tony Watt will probably join them . Think Baccus and Strain will have had a lot of teams showing interest and Saints will sell both . Ideally I would like them to sign new contracts, but I can't see that happening. Can see us bringing over another couple of Australian players if these guys move on . Hoping there's truth in the rumours of the three players coming to us ( Bowie , Saud, Bedenau ) all are of a good age and will have potential to improve. Looking forward to seeing who Martin Foyle recommends . Would like us to go with a slightly bigger squad this year . Pleased that we will have a decent group of players in place at the start of the season to give us a decent League Cup campaign. -
The rumours about us being in for Sule and Bowie have been with us for a bit and I,m thinking that business has already been done . Hoping we are in for Lewis Strapp to play left back , also hope we keep Shaunessy. Look forward to seeing who Foyle has scouted in the lower leagues in England.

Notice John McGinn was wearing his Jersey when he was being interviewed after the game. He must still be a fan .

It could be argued that he is a younger version of Gordon Scott who was given the opportunity to buy shares and be part of the board . This type of opportunity isn't as readily available now and it would seem Smisa would be the most sensible way to gain experience in running a football club and evidencing what he could bring to the club . Failing that he could get involved with a club in the fifth teir and do a really good job there and use the experience gained there to put him in a better position to convince others that he,s the right person to take St Mirren forward . Good Luck to the guy .

One Player And One Player Only

McAvennie . A tough decision, but Macca can play as an out and out striker and also as an attacking midfielder, so his versatility gives him the starting spit . -
Your Best St Mirren Eleven In The Last 75 Years
MenstrieSaint replied to shull's topic in General St. Mirren Discussion
McGowan carried some very average St Mirren teams and was a superb player for St Mirren , helped St Mirren win the league Cup. Hugely underestimated because of his problems off the pitch . Would have been an even better player if he had more quality roundabout him . -

R.I.P Frank McGarvey
MenstrieSaint replied to Callum Gilhooley's topic in General St. Mirren Discussion
My favourite game with Frank McGarvey was when he played against Morton at Love Street during the 78 - 79 season . It was the first time I saw us play in that lovely red Umbro strip . Frank was everywhere , chasing everything and looking classy in everything he did , twists , turns , beating his man for pace . We were two one up and a very strong Morton team was pushing hard for an equaliser . In the dying minutes Saints breakaway a cross comes into the box and Frank McGarvey throws himself to head home and make it three one . Game set and match . Frank reminded me so much of Johan Cruyff that day . He was absolutely superb. -
Potentially I can see him take over from Ryan Strain. I would be disappointed if we don't make an effort to keep him at the end of the season , maybe with a view of going out for a further seasons loan, then being ready for a first team place the following season. He,s still young and has a good attitude. Hopefully our coaches can work with him and enable him to improve . Hoping his time at Inverness goes well with him getting regular game time .

Pretty much how I see it . I'm not overly excited about us offering Kiltie a new contract as I feel he hasn't met expectations. But I'm happy to trust Robinsons judgement, he will see him train every day , be aware of his influence on the team at training and maybe have a role in mind for him as other players move on . I was also surprised to see how young Kiltie was . Hope his mate Hendo signs a new contract too .

A fair amount considering we have Gogic able to step in and potentially the guy from Leeds coming in on loan for us to have a look at him . Portsmouth would be a good place for him to continue his development and maybe get a bigger move , and Hopefully a few bob on a sell on clause . £350k would allow us to bring two in and bank £300 so in all fairness , not a bad deal .

Keanu Baccus World Cup Money
MenstrieSaint replied to magnus's topic in General St. Mirren Discussion
Seems a bit unfair on the team making the player available and running the risk of the player getting injured . What would be fair if the daily fee were split in two with the current clubs receiving half , and the other half being split between the clubs the players have been at over the last two years . -
Can see Brophy interesting Dundee . Seems to fit the profile of the kind of player Dundee sign during the january transfer window . Two years ago they signed Jason Cumming to help their promotion push , and last year signed Leigh Griffiths to help them stay up . Would be a good loan signing for them .
-
I'm thinking there will be offers in roundabout £700k with him still having 18 months left on his contract and probably a few clubs looking at him . If he gets on from the start against Argentina, he could go for over a million . Its hard for clubs to make good signings during the winter transfer window and Keanu would bring energy to most midfield. A team like Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom , Sunderland would be a good move for him .
-
That makes sense as Cumdog is quite far down the list .
-
I reckon the number 26 suggests that he was the last name down on the squad list , probably picked from four or five possibles . He must be doing exceptionally well in training to be used in all three games . Especially coming on at half time today.
-
Based on how our other signings have done , I don't think he will be a bad signing , and will offer us something as the season progresses .

HOOF! Robbos Long Ball Army
MenstrieSaint replied to TopCat's topic in General St. Mirren Discussion
I totally don't see it that way . I think our defence doesn't overplay the ball and clears the ball often to gett the hall out the danger area . Alunga and Main then get onto these clearances and build up attacks from the half way line. We have hard working midfielders and wing backs that are happy to run with the ball at their feet . We have a simple system in place where everyone knows what they are supposed to do .
