  1. Was one of my first heroes at Love Street along with Ally McLeod. He played with his heart on his sleeve and his "wanders" up the park were eagerly anticipated by the fans of the day. He survived cancer and a stroke before that awful disease got him in the end. So sad.
  2. Stepped away with immediate effect followed by the Manager. This, despite a successful season. Something they didn't want to be involved in?
  3. When was the last time you saw a decent European final? I remember the ones in the 60's with the amazing Real Madrid, the 70's with Ajax and the 80's with AC Milan (full of Dutch players?). They all played to score goals, even Milan. Since then I have to admit only English sides and perhaps Bayern in the final have shown they're not scared to attack and trust their defence. Modern football is all about not conceding.
  4. Main away to Wrexham was all over the English press yesterday. Apparently for triple the wages we paid him. Google it and you will be surprised at where it was reported.
  5. No chance. We can't compete with the money an Indian club are reportedly offering him. Christ, am I actually saying this. 🥺
  6. So has the rest of Scottish football. Removed from the SFA Agenda today, citing "the vote would be decisive for Scottish football". I guess the No's had it sewn up.
  7. Think I'm stating the bleedin' obvious. There will be a wailing and gnashing of teeth down Parkhead way this evening.
  8. Sadly I feel that SR didn't think Joe was quick enough for a back three which was was the preferred option. Joe was a player who gave his all every time he put on the jersey, no matter the formation being played. Dundee are getting a diamond.
  9. I was arguing with my wife at the weekend as I was adamant that there had been a Shish in Paisley but could I remember. In the early 70's i organised an office Xmas lunch in the Centurian for about 18 or 19 people. It was the first time I had ever seen a tab for more than £100, (£118 iirc). Nowadays that's about what it costs for the wife and me! 🧃🥩🍷☕️
  10. Interesting. Exactly who would you like to see retained?
  11. Is it the last series? I thought it was just a new cast.
  12. The doomsayers on here would do well to remember the words of Aristotle. "One swallow does not make a summer, neither does one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy." Comprehensively taken down by Killie? FFS.
  13. Carey misses a tap in that would have put us fifth. You couldn't make it up.
  14. You also have to factor in the rental charges which, like airports, are extortionate at football grounds. Same as cinemas. Mind you my son-in-law's brother opened up a hotdog restaurant on the southside. It was doing well and was quite popular with both sit-in and takeaway. Then it got a good review in the Herald. Within two months the landlord had more than doubled the rent. I think folk forget that landlords are just money grubbing scum.
  15. Was referred to as "cutthroat charlies" when I was a boy. Was the place for a trendy cut in the early 60's. Other shops took up the reins for the mod cuts and nobody bothered with barbers in the hippy days.
  16. Er, "managers have the power to reduce this nonsense". I guess I've missed your point then.
  17. Managers have no say in VAR or anything else to do with how the game is organised. It's all down to the blazers and that means they will do nothing that would bring the Scottish game into conflict with UEFA or FIFA. Little fish, big pool.
  18. Only if they had 104,000 two years ago!
  19. The pen was awarded in the 70th minute but the Beeb have it scored on the 73rd minute. Wtf?
  20. Do you think she saw it coming? 🔥 OK I'll get ma coat.
  21. Get him off at half time before the ref does the usual and send him off for a soft second yellow.
  22. There is no logic in picking a best XI of the last 50 years. The best in their position? Ian Munro and Billy Stark were the most intelligent football players I've seen in the jersey, Tony Fitz the biggest heart, Doug Somner the bravest ....... I could go on. Most will pick their favourite XI 'cos that's what being a football fan is all about and I could fill a page with favourites since the early 60's, most of whom don't meet the 50 year gap. Ally McLeod scoring 4 at Ibrox is possibly the best performace in a Saints jersey I have ever seen. Victor was a class act, unfortunately not in the Black and White. Apart from McGowan I don't disagree with any of the names put forward (good enough player but I don't think he matches up to others named here). So don't get your knickers in a twist just remember the pleasure you got watching them play the beautiful game.
  23. If that was the case then Aberdeen will beat us to it!
