Why? It's what they do, ffs. In the acting game you take what you can get 'cos you might not get any more tomorrow, or the next day, or ....................................... !! A pal of mine lived next door to a weel kent Scottish actor and I met him several times. He had three regular sources of income - a small part in a scottish soap, a voice over for a scottish beer and the panto. They paid the mortgage, school costs for his kids and an annual family holiday. The rest of the year was spent hoping for work - and he was quite famous at the time. There was also a guy from school who got a big break with a lead role in a big movie in the 70's. Got it made everybody thought, till you see his CV and didn't appear to work from 1985 to 2005. Don't envy these people one bit and don't see the point of journalists conning them? Journalists - now they are the scum of the earth. Lying, cheating, phone-hacking bassas.

I see Wales are going to introduce the "opt out" scheme for organ donation.
I think it's a good idea, I'd think many people would probably do it but can't be arsed so this should see a massive increase in organ donations and save lots of misery for may families.
I'm not keen on Wales but, good on them.

Apparently the first televised games have been announced. Celtic v Aberdeen on Sky, Hibs v ICT on BT and Rangers v Hearts on the History Channel.

I'm wallowing in nostalgia, 'cos I'm old, and it's braw! As the first born I have photos of me on the sand at Morecambe as a two or three year old. Don't remember it at all but my Mum never tired of recounting how bananas had just come off the ration and the landlady fed them to me morning, noon and night. After the sisters arrived it was a house in Largs for a few years and then a round of the traditional English seaside resorts. Whitley Bay, Scarborough (the model ship battles in Peasholm Park), Blackpool a few times (saw the Beatles do a live appearance on a TV show and Tommy Cooper), St Annes, Great Yarmouth (when England stole the World Cup), Bournmouth and Torquay (my first holiday romance, a smashing wee blonde from the Home Counties - my folks could afford a pretty decent hotel by then).
Been back to Scarborough a few times since and it's still quite genteel but went to Morecambe one day to take some photos of the big art deco hotel and the statue of Eric Morcambe which were fine but the rest of the place is an absolute dump. All the b&b's are full of kids on benefit and asylum seekers/cockle pickers, a tragedy for both them and the town.

Made no secret of a "show me the money" approach as he sees this as his final chance of a decent payday. Don't see the SPL showing much sign of being able to meet this. Frankly, a League One club can pay more than anybody up here so I think he'll end up at a Coventry or a Tranmere.

Still on loan at QP until at least the end of the transfer window. I think it has something to do with his having been registered as an amateur? Along these lines anyway.

Brings back so many memories. My Grampa was a foreman in the Finishing Works and got me a membership for pennies. Had tennis coaching on Saturday mornings in the summer and watched the cricket on a Sunday. Spent a lot of the school hols there and played snooker there before I ever played at the Working Mens Abstainers Club.
On an earlier point about the snooker club near the Glen Cinema it was above Burtons on the corner of Gauze Street / Gilmour Street (Sorry if somebody's already posted on this).
Is this just about the best thread on the site or am I just getting old?

It's just model. The early Victorian Labourer's Friend Society set out to improve the lot of the industrial classes (who could afford a rent) as rented lodging housing was pretty appalling. After some failures they formed the Model Dwellings Co. and built a number of "model schemes" in London in the 1840's for families, single men and single women. These "model schemes" were copied throughout Britain but the majority were for the single men who had moved into towns and cities to find work. They were mostly privately run (for profit) by local philanthropists and were a step up from the poorhouse as the lodgers had a degree of independence. They also promoted an allotment of land for working families which became the modern day Council allotments and established friendly societies for banking and insurance. This was a good thing.
