  1. Even if we have to go to the top end of our wage budget I think a good experienced centre half, as well as providing stability this season, would actually be a great investment. We currently have 2 terrific young prospects having made starting roles their own in the defence and McAusland is only 25 too. I still recall the arrival of Roy Aitken and I hadn't really appreciated how good a player he was through OF dislike. The improvement in a previously shaky Norrie McWhirter playing beside such experience for a season was brilliant and I think our young defenders would benefit hugely from similar. Youngsters developing further for our side or more impressive still that they attract future £££s. A decent centre half would be worth spending what we can now.
  2. Which one he appeared to have 2 on his debut v Thistle ?

  4. Newton to Goodwins spot but I quite like the McGregor idea too So Newton it is but.......... If you change your mind, he's the first in line McGregor's still free take a chance on D
  5. For me the big question is did Terry Butcher do a dog marking it's territory type thing and take a dump in the Hibs dug out ?
  6. Don't think the weather forecast was great for the Saturday Saturday Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Fog early. High of 10C. Breezy. Winds from the WSW at 15 to 25 km/h. Sunday Clear. High of 8C. Breezy. Winds from the WSW at 15 to 25 km/h
  7. No problems....This is Paul McGowan the person not Paul McGowan the football player who is a subsiduary entity and just run by Paul McGowan the person. If there's fines or community service etc Paul McGowan the person can be listed as a naughty boy who has committed a crime under the influence of others while Paul McGowan the footballer gets on with his job as normal. Phil to announce on tannoy " Number 9.....Stephen Thompson .....Number 10....The Paul McGowan!"
  8. So you'd be unhappy with Messi in the team ? Quick, good control, scores goals... probably not many headers... but will be a perfect foil for Thompson. Absolutely the level of player I'd hope for us to bring in.
  9. Where are they now? Erica Roe. Round about her knees.
  10. The linesman points the Partick defender away when he came to try to cover the short corner. For me that says he didn't consider the kick taken as if he had already agreed it had with the Inverness player then the Partick lad could just wander in and take possession of the ball. Sneakiness which I'm pleased wasn't permitted.
  11. My pick for this game - harsh on Kenny Mclean but I like Teale's threat. Dilo Van Zanten McGregor Mair Kelly Teale Goodwin Newton McGinn McGowan Thompson Subs - Grainger, Naismith, McLean, Harkins, Caprice, Bahoken
  12. Dilo Newton McGregor Mair Grainger Goodwin Teale McGowan McGinn McLean Thompson Subs Cornell, Bahoken, Harkins, Reilly, DVZ, Kelly, Caprice Whoever takes the field be under no illusions that like Dundee last year like Dunfermline previously...Hearts will be absolutely all out for this one we're seen as their one big chance....don't give any less ! Fight from the word go and don't come away like some of these previous games thinking... ahh if we'd just got something in that game it would have been different. 'MON THE SAINTS
  13. Can only assume it's for the open to judgement ungentlemanly conduct. There is nothing in the laws of the game that say referees have to indicate for the free-kick to be taken. As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like. The only exception I believe is if the attacker asks for an opponent to be moved back then he has to wait until the referee signals he can take it. Just looking again I actually have more sympathy than I did Saturday night...looking at the replay straight on he never once looks at the Hibs player, When first in shot he's looking cross field and he then gets his head down over the ball and doesn't look up again until he's hit it...I don't think he fully expected the Hibs player to move in to 3 feet away and then stick out his left leg.
  14. Is very interesting as I've seen hundreds of incidents where players have played the ball with what could be determined excess force off and opponent getting a throw or defenders off a striker getting a goal kick. Never seen a referee make this judgement. Indeed I've seen rugby players absolutely laid out flat needing attention but they've then been penalised 10 yards because they know dam well that the rules of the game require them to retreat 10 yards. It's easier in football too because the guy has to set up the ball and wait for it to be stationary where rugby it can be bloody hard to get out the way that quickly....the Hibs lad as mentioned stuck out his leg to block it, without that it could have whistled by him 50 yards up the park. Are refs really going to order off players for ..oo maybe a wee bit hard there son and I think it was probably going to hit him even if he didn't stick his leg out to stop it?
  15. them English classes.....classes plural....."back to those classes" surely if you're that keen to correct someone's English. Meh....2-1 Hibs
  16. Quite close to what I'd like to see next game. I'd give Caprice and McGregor starts at the back because I thought Van Zanten and McAusland made really basic mistakes time after time Saturday. Prefer Goodwin with Newton in front of the defence but needs must. He had some dodgy moments too Saturday but I think he got caught out of postion several times purely and simply because he got into the habit of moving automatically to cover DVZ and McAusland expecting mistakes. Newtonhad a poor one (who wasn't) but at least looked annoyed at himself and tried chasing down his mistakes. Bahoken - evidence wasn't great that he was the strong pacy talent we hoped for but guy was hours off the plane so for time being I guess we play him and keep our fingers crossed. Cornell Caprice McGregor Goodwin Grainger Teale Newton McGowan Harkins Thomson Bahoken
  17. "Virtually"...they virtually loaned to to Le Havre last tranfer window...before they didn't Still ...Sporting Life have him included in the squad for Saturday http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/match-preview/289351/-
  18. Not buying this at all...highly doubtful whether there would even be 2 big gates for The New Rangers as their fans would no doubt be playing the "They were one of the SPL who kicked us out...boycott like Tannadice" card.
  19. As long as it goes smoother than the last transfer window they planned to loan him out.
  20. A winner on Saturday bouncing in off Bahoken's Bahookie would be very welcome.
  21. Times listed here http://www.epfl-europeanleagues.com/leagues_transfer_window.htm OP was correct with 11pm Scottish Professional Football League Close: 31.08.2013 - 23h English Premier League Close: 02.09.2013 - 23h English Football League Close: 02.09.2013 - 23h
  22. Despite evidence within 10 posts that fans are not fully aware of when window closes guy gets abused by Faraway and several of his aliases. I had bought the whole SKY TV Sep 2nd incidently so cheers, will alter my F5 signing vigil to Saturday evening after our win over Thistle.
  23. Thought rather than let recent results cloud my judgement I'd look at Saints League Form under Danny Lennon. Quite surprised that in 3 seasons 117 games we'd only won by 2 goals on 9 occasions. It's not great reading. home wins by 2 or more (6) away wins by 2 or more (3) home losses by 2 or more (9) away losses by 2 or more (15)
