  1. Playing higher up the park. Better start this half.
  2. Put into perspective...level after a shocking start. Great move for the goal. Lucky to be level but still in there and fighting. More of the football and less of the kicking the ball straight out the park and we'll be there tonight!
  3. I have to admit despite some positive aspects, Morton looked more up for that game last night! On balance, the truly disappointing aspect is the loss to Dumbarton at home though. Yes there are a number of frustrating aspects about the game last night and at Ibrox but 4 from 9, accepting a loss away against the league's big spenders and a draw away to local derby rivals having played with 10 men most of the second half would have been an ok start. The loss to Dumbarton makes it a disappointing one. We have the makings of a good side and if we can keep the travelling support from our 1st two away league games it could still be a very exciting season. Need to iron out the tactics going forward though if this is to happen...
  4. Some amount of nonsense as usual, but in fairness 1 point from 9 isn't great. That said the knicker wetting is as always considerably OTT. Positives first: Langfield (minus the flap and the two handed punch) - on the evidence of that performance he will earn us a fair few points this season. Watson - solid debut. Goodwin - simply outstanding particularly when down to 10 men. He drove that team forward and with Langfield earned us a point tonight. Showed his leadership pedigree in what could have been a very difficult game for him. We didn't concede even with 10 men. We dug in and got a result with 10 men. Like it or lump it there was a pretty good atmosphere in the ground tonight. As much as it may pain some having our neighbours back in the same league makes for a great spectacle. Yes there are zoomers who take it way to far outside the ground but "what's it like to have a wash?" when the rain came on was pretty funny. Just shy of 2,000 Saints fans at an away game in the championship... Points for improvement: Link up play between midfield and lone striker...McMullan did well initially but seemed to fade a bit when Thommo got left increasingly isolated. Someone from midfield needs to get forward early to support as Thommo won his fair share of headers. Clearing the lines when necessary. A couple of instances where we had poor clearances in the first half which only invited more pressure... Individuals who weren't quite 100% in terms of performance. Posters who are so negative it is painful to read their comments at times...cheer up we could have folded and been hammered but we didn't. There were a few moves with good football played but I agree we need to impose our style more rather than being dictated to. It will take a wee while but I think we have the makings of a reasonable team. Morton played relatively well and will be thinking they should have won in retrospect...we had a few decisions go against us but still stuck in and kept fighting....
  5. Hopefully common sense prevails with cash at gate for stragglers... Even with a very conservative estimate of each of our tickets being a parent and child...£8.50 each effectively...£15000 at least from the away support alone must be a good day for most!
  6. In TC's defence, although I may not always agree with his opinion, as another poster who tries to give an honest opinion when at games it's always easy in retrospect.
  7. Perhaps he works for this lot...www.spearssales.com
  8. Far too many knicker-wetters as per usual. He didn't have his best game and he missed a penalty. This doesn't mean he is done. The answer is use his strengths and don't ask him to do everything. With this in mind to judge him as lone striker in this particular game is beyond me. Sentimentality has nothing to do with anything above. He was asked to do a thankless task tonight as our only other real option was a young kid who was signed this week. Put things into context before getting the knives out. In summary - one bad game doesn't mean he's done and some will be eating their words when he proves them wrong.
  9. Indeed. So many things could be said about that game good and bad. Being positive to start with like for many of you above the most impressive aspect for me was the willingness to dig in and keep going. In too many games last year that fight was missing, tonight it was plain to see. I accept the standing off criticism but would suggest this was either an instruction not to chase the ball in their half early in the game or stage fright. Either way it was certainly not for lack of effort. Negatives: I think we gave them too much respect to start off with, but this did change as we grew into the match. I agree the left side needs strengthened however I disagree with the character assassinations of both Howieson and Conlan. As previously mentioned Howieson doesn't appear to be a wide player and as a result tends to play relatively narrow or doesn't offer the the same protection to Conlan as a natural left sided player would. He also took his goal very well. Conlan had a tough time like in the Bradford game but never gave up. He was up against their best player for me and after the first 20 mins barring the long ball he misjudged he came on to a far better game. Answer move Howieson in one and play Morgan. The penalty, but wasn't it well won? Out-with that I am struggling. I can understand where the criticism of Thommo is coming from but how often did anyone get near him to support in the first half? Second half he linked play relatively well and was our only central aerial threat. Perhaps the ease with which Wallace ran through for the second would be the other negative, but it was a good ball through...only Baird though tracked therefore who should have been marking him? As for the positives: The fight. The goal. The goal keeping performance after what I thought was a shaky game against Bradford. The central half pairing. For all Baird had a great and committed game just as IM eluded to I also thought Sean Kelly had a very good game. Naismith look the fittest man on the park and for all my comment about the lack of support for Conlan on the other side, he effectively gave McMullan licence to not track back most of the second half. Midfield 5. Quiet games for Howieson (although a fantastic goal), Agnew and Mallan, but I though both Carswell and McMullen had very good games. Carswell instructing Mallan how to tackle in the middle of the second half was fantastic to see. McMullan's running - which should be the only thought in his head when he gets the ball - was fantastic. Thommo as above not his best by a long way but had a thankless task on his own, particularly in this game given the circumstances. I don't think he's done at all, he just needs to be used appropriately and not asked to do everything... The pace going forward that we now seem to have in McMullan, Morgan and Gallagher. Morgan looked good as did Gallagher - although the first run as lone striker is always to the front post! Even Gow looked much better than last season albeit he only had a short spell to show it. All that with a very young side at the most intimidating venue, against a side who are supposedly going to romp the league. I know I am a happy clapper yet although Rangers were always at least slightly in the ascendancy we weren't far behind them in a game we didn't play at our best. Who knows what could have happened if that ball had hit the top corner of the net and not the top corner of the stand... ETA: corrections to a few typos and to say I'm not worried in the slightest for when they come to our patch. I think we could give them a good going over especially pressing from the front with a positive home crowd behind us.
  10. My take was that the situation was a disaster...well worded in other words...In a similar vein to the squadgate incident it must be a fine line keeping interested fans informed and not losing a competitive edge with a number of aspects on the running of the club. Great to be kept updated and also to have to opportunity to watch the video, but does talking about certain aspects of players in detail aid the opposition? Or are the topics covered plain to see for any scout worth his salt? A fine balance indeed.
  11. Same issue for me on the phone but works fine on computer.
  12. Or as the French say: That's life...Both will do well and fair play to them. Both should be remembered as League Cup winners. Yes their departures have been for less money than we would have liked. Yes other features have potentially left a sour taste for some, but it is time to move on a focus on current Saints...
  13. Agree with this. Although can only guess as to IM's opinion of Goodwin given what he has heard/seen before and what preseason/training and games have done since.
  14. 1.21 gigawatts! 1.21 gigawatts. Great Scott!
  15. It is a great piece of photography/video. Does the camera run throughout the game or operated only when action in that half of the goal? For me it's a penalty and a yellow regardless of rules. Not convinced it is arm to ball but the arm is not next to his body and clearly stops it going in. I thought he headered it though and that was from the south stand. Difficult job being a referee and not one I envy. Kind of adds further weight to Thommo not being done regardless of standard of opposition. Time for character assassination to stop. Cameron running away slapping his forehead is a bit more ridiculous now...perhaps another yellow for that! From a Berwick Rangers perspective well played that man though...
  16. Can't wait for Scott Agnew to have a decent game!
  17. That lot are perennial knicker wetters...I agree with you.
  18. Looks like it. Strange one to have away players warming up in front of home fans...Manager and assistant up standing though again, we can't lose!
