  1. It all reminds me of a story one of my college lecturers told He was working at James Watt college when Peter McDougall came in to speak to some of the students at a reception, and after a few drinks, one of the lecturers asked if there was any Juicy Goss from his time at the BBC. He told the story of a doumentary made in the early-mid 70s about rent boys in London and there was a pre-edit screening for high heid yins and others. in the documentary, the narrator asked a young Scots guy about the big dangers of such a life, the reply was that many of the more establishment type figures would get into a sort of self-hating rage and get violent with the boys after sex and you could never tell when or if it would happen. "who would you say were the worst types for this kind of behaviour?" asked the interviewer/narrator. He probably expected to hear of a type or a typical group, such as politicians, military men, clergy, etc. The reply was the name of a well known BBC commentator and presenter, who had a midweek sports show carrying his surname which was similar to a well-known brand of mustard. The bigwigs got to their feet and locked the doors, stopped the reel and ordered everyone in the room to forget what they had heard on pain of sacking and legal action. The reel or tape was ripped out of the machine and physically destroyed there and then. Within months, mustard guy had disappeared from the screens and was reported to be launching a global tv sports empire that never got going, the show returned as Sportsnight and the roving reporter was promoted to anchor man, shortly after this his name was added to the show's title. Mustard guy had a short-lived comeback in the early 80s. Now McDougall was a rogue and possibly still is, but the lecturer was adamant this was all true and the story as told to him seemed very genuine
  2. the away top reminds me of a college jumper i had circa 1972-3
  3. i'm not sure we have, his graft covered up a whole load of deficiencies and any talent we have signed will have to be just as committed as he has been and that is actually quite a rare thing.
  4. He looks a great signing and i only hope he is here longer than a few months
  5. There will be a clause to go with the first big offer then you don’t get nuthin’ for nuthin’
  6. I think Murray will be well up for this, Thiem had too many opportunities to push Tsitsipas harder than he did. Add the late night then Murray will be fresh and strong. It all depends on his serve, he was nailing it later in the Peniston match after taking a little too long to get it to a fine end point but had a massive improvement on second serve over recent years. He was serving better than i have seen him (on telly) in 7 years by the end, he just needs to start like that.
  7. I'd say Jamieson has a good chance and Offord a chance to be effective forwards at SPL level. Goalscorers? Maybe not regular or main scorers. Grieve toils manfully and links up well, he lacks the physical presence he needs to take advantage of the little space he forges for himself. For him, it is always about the out-ball and the occasional nibble from goalmouth stramashes, though i do remember at least one very good goal from around the edge of the box. It might be that he will be better with better personnel around him. I can see why manager's keep guys like him in the side as it at least keeps us competitive in tight matches, we just need to be looking beyond that tactic now and turning more of these tight results into clear victories.
  8. The moderator has her hands full with the day job and the special effects on a Monty Python sketch
  9. I know, i was joking. We couldn't afford the bar bills and the language would be too offensive for our guys.
  10. Men's football, as played by men, is still a male only sport. The appointment of a female boss doesn't change the nature of the game. We won't ever see women playing in the men's game and vice-versa, so what is the big deal?
  11. I hope she is thinking longer term of a Holyrood seat and the party leadership when Humza gets ousted. She would be a huge figure in the scottish parliament and possibly be just as effective, if not more effective, than sturgeon It seems to me that the recent election of a new westminster leader has really made a difference to the SNP mood
  12. Overall it wwent very well, Henman pointed out that he was employing a new stance for serving and once he sorted that out he was streets ahead Plenty of chances to be aggressive, which he hadn't always been taking in recent years and he seems confident with his body and how it holds up, no sign of the slight limo that persisted into last year A kind draw just got kinder thanks to the weather, his next opponent will be playing 2 days in a row and with both candidates not in their best form that could even mean a long match for the winner while Murray gets a rest, he will be well happy with how the day panned out and there was a wee glint of steel in him again.
  13. He made some early serving errors and sorted that out quite nicely The run of play was never against him
  14. Can you imagine, even for one second, that they weren't?
  15. That's harsh, Fletcher fits neatly into the profile of players that we sign with a view to developing and selling on for a profit Just not in this, or the previous, decade.
  16. A much more succinct version of my point
  17. Please keep your huń references to other sites regarding child abuse. Please keep your sanctimonious pish to yourself on a football forum. It would have been very hard for the head teacher to not have at least concerns.
  18. if i remember right he also frequented the Tudor and the New Bar
  19. no wise cracks but obviously a few sore ones
  20. If you got to keep your dinner money Frank Forsyth sorted that whole thing out for me day one,
  21. quite fitting when you think about it given the goings on at their boys club Big John (Madden) knew
  22. Bumped, this may be the point of the Wagner stunt today. Portraying it as a reason to get out of Ukraine and face the "enemy" within with Putin and Prigozhin declaring victory over their own military
