Some professor or other worked out that if you put in 10000 hours dedicated practice at something, you will attain expert status in that discipline. Google it - an example often quoted is The Beatles. In Hamburg they clocked up over 10000 hours gig time. On their return to the UK they were streets ahead of any other live band on the scene. I have my doubts. If I put in 10000 hours of brain surgery, I might become an expert - but it's the poor cnuts I met along the way I'd feel sorry for.
