About two years later the Braehead Road shops opened and the sweetie shop was owned by Bobby Rankine's widow, known to every one of us weans as Mrs. Rankine. A nice old woman who kept the shop for years. She reckoned she knew more about football than anyone connected with St.Mirren even at the time we won the cup in 1959. Judging by Bobby's age when he died she was probably only in her early 50's when she opened the shop but we always thought she was a really old woman back then. farmer john
must be about this date, in 200? the cooncil granted the permission to turn Love St in to a supermarket....sparking the move to Greenhill Road and our future financial security. And also the recent League Cup win. It is all in my diary but cant quite remember which year. I used to have perfect memory for these things....fading a bit noo! Going to do the same job on the farm today I was doing when I kept nipping in here to see what was happening. I do recall realising how hugely significant a day it was for St Mirren. Where would we be if they had said NO?
