Smfc-On This Day.....

must be about this date, in 200? the cooncil granted the permission to turn Love St in to a supermarket....sparking the move to Greenhill Road and our future financial security. And also the recent League Cup win.

It is all in my diary but cant quite remember which year. I used to have perfect memory for these things....fading a bit noo!

Going to do the same job on the farm today I was doing when I kept nipping in here to see what was happening. I do recall realising how hugely significant a day it was for St Mirren. Where would we be if they had said NO?

24th May 2005 was the day the planning application was passed FJ.

1993.....Jamie Fullerton earned his 2nd U21 Cap in a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria at the Toulon Tournament.

I think Barry Lavety may have been a sub in this game but can't find confirmation.

Interesting bit is the 2 names you mention. Jamie Fullerton was our first bosman...ie walking away for personal gain and no money to the club. Barry said he would never do that and we got a transfer fee from Hibs (£50,000?).......Jamie was pish and disappeared ....Barry was great and came back to win the league under Sir Tom Hendrie .

I thought Fullerton was a great player.Could have had a great career if it wasn't for injuries. As you say our 1st Bosman and that turned a lot of fans against him.

I warn you, Windae boy, he takes it real bad when you muck one up for him. This is the voice of experience speaking. I've got to go incognito to Paisley nowadays. Watch out for his big sister as well.

1992.....World Cup....Spain....Scotland 5 New Zealand.

Stevie Archibald, who would go on to be a St Mirren Legend, came on as a Sub and scored.Archibald was such a quality player he is the highest paid Saints player of all time.

1976....Georgetown Cricket Ground.....Guyana 1 SMFC 4.(McGillvary 2,Richardson,McGarvey)

This was a warm up for the Guyana World Cup squad. Not sure if this is the only National team Saints have played, don't think the Isle of Man would count.

The Stadium we played at is not only a World famous cricket ground but it's where the "magic bottle" was invented!!!
