Yes because he's a c**t when he's drunk

You sound like a c**t all the time.

Bubbling away/under.

Met Aber just once and to be honest, he was a typical lad out on the lash. Looking for a laugh, a drink, a bird and a kebab.

What's not to like?

Unfortunately, his demons got the better of him.

Nobody is perfect........... Not even lovestreet.

I think it was just after his sons death and in the back of my mind I recall Cooper with his arm round Tony after he had been sent off. A referee that I met at a dinner some time after told me that the offence had been dealt with compassionately by the SFA and that several players from both sides had contacted them and that RFC had asked for leniency. Whether anything had been said to spark Tony off is just idle gossip I think.

I remember it as being just after his sons death. Fitzy's son had been ill for a while. He'd had some sort of condition that was affecting his blood and there had been coverage in the national press. The lad appeared to be making a good recovery and was a match mascot for a St Mirren match then a few weeks or months later things took a turn for the worse and he passed away. I may be wrong about dates - it's not the first time I guess, but I reckon I was in first year at school and that it was reasonably close to my birthday so that would place it around Feb 1982. I think this match took place a few months on from then.

My recollection of the match was my utter revulsion at the Rangers fans singing something along the lines of "Tony, Tony where's your son" and I think it was that which got Fitzy a more lenient sentence from the SFA. I've got to say though - even though I was angered by that song it wasn't at all unusual for football fans to go way beyond what would be deemed inappropriate these days. A few years on St Mirren fans would make hissing noises at Dunfermline fans making reference to how their captain Norrie McCathy had died and there were regular songs and chants about Johnny Doyle - the Celtic player who electrocuted himself doing DIY. For some bizarre and sick reason it was seen as part of the banter.

The sending off apart the match was just the same kind of meaty battle that games between the two clubs had become. As a partisan 12 year old I believed Cooper dived to get Fitzy sent off and it was that which provoked the over the top response from Fitzy. There could be something that was said but I don't think we'll ever know or find out.

Oh aye, you can add my name to those that would definitely buy a copy of a Tony Fitzpatrick biography or auto biography if one is ever done. I loved the Billy Abercrombie book and I'd love to see Fitzy given the same treatment.

My first footballing heroes were Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Tony Fitzpatrick, Iain Munro, Jackie Copland and Billy Abercrombie all in that order. Fitzy will always be a legend.
