Howard Hughes in BlueSuedeShoes
Funeral is a very good album. It takes a bit of listening to as it's a bit unconventional but it's well worth getting a hold of. Win Butler, the vocalist, sounds as if he's either in manic or panic mode. There's some great melodies and backing vocals. A bit of violin, upright piano and acousitc guitar as well as thumping bass and electric guitar that verges on funky. Some of the drumming is a bit lopsided and the whole thing at first sounds a bit home-made but after several listens that adds to the appeal. You're probably going to buy it anyway so you may as well shell out next time your in your next HMV, Virgin (ooer, missus!) or Fopp.

I would say it is only ok. Not quite the epic that the press have made it out to be.

Bloody hell, not heard of them for a while! Could never make my mind up about them, though. Sometimes I liked them sometimes I couldn’t be bothered with them. Siouxsie & the Banshees, Smashing Pumpkins & MBV aare top notch, though.

Sometimes I liked them sometimes I couldn’t be bothered with them. Not a brilliant album I agree, but Step Into My World is one of the finest songs I've heard. Got listening to it again after all the Ride talk on this thread (Andy Bell was lead guitarist with both bands). Got Ride - Going Blank Again on now. Colin M
One of the best cd's ever made. Excellent choice Colin .... I'm a massive fan of everything he's ever done, but that and his other early stuff (Polygon Window and Selected Ambient Works Volume II) are still my favourites. He's playing the Barrowlands in April, although I expect it will be anything but ambient that night!
