  1. Heard that Tommy the groundsman brought his pet parrot when he was preparing the pitch to make sure it wasn't waterlogged. The parrot actually helped. As Tommy said " polyunsaturates the pitch for me"
  2. Never mind predicting the score, it's more fun watching predictive text!
  3. Hope they don't lurpak the defence or we'll never score
  4. Nearly greetin' listening to that! Brilliant bbbbbbbbbrilliant oh when the saints..................
  5. To have Fitzy as the public face for St Mirren is a great thing. This man knows how to relate to people and he is sure to attract attention to the club for all the right reasons. Crucially he understands the supporters of our great club and he will treat his role with dignity and care. Welcome home my Son, welcome home
  6. He used to run the newsagent at the top of Copland road when I was a youngster and I remember him talking very humbly about his playing days. He never bragged about his achievements and I always enjoyed his stories. I'm so sorry to hear of his death. A true St Mirren legend, may he rest in peace and may his Family be given the strength to endure their loss.
  7. Sorry fellow buddie but I can't do a link from my iPad. I just keyed St Mirren into the YouTube search engine and it was about the fifth or sixth on the list with ladbrokes inside info in the title along with St Mirren and Thommo
  8. There's a short clip on YouTube where thommo is interviewed. He is asked some questions about team mates. When asked who is the most skilful player he answered "Gow"! So somebody at the club rates him. He might be terrific in training and anonymous in games. it does happen to some players. Is Alex Rae the man to get the best from him or is it too late? If he was going to be punted in the transfer window its unlikely he would have been included in yesterday's squad. Perhaps he has one last chance
  9. I remember we would regularly burn a tricolour when playing celtic and burn a union jack against rangers. I used to stand quite near the fence and as a young man I loved the atmosphere. I changed mind you when I got a beer can stuck in my face from group of Celtic fans who had infiltrated the north bank, and worse than that a right hander from a saints fan who was wearing a ring and burst my eyebrow! Being the big hard ticket I was I moved to the enclosure and enjoyed many happy times with some great guys who were a laugh a minute, particularly a guy called Les who used to come with his Father. Both of them were brilliant to stand beside. Best memory was Scanlons screamer and seeing the faces of Celtic fans who again had wormed their way into saints territory in the enclosure. Oh how we laughed!
  10. All you people debating the pricing structure should stop and think of us so far away that we can't go due to distance. Sob sob. Maybe we should start another thread criticising St Mirren for being far away! To make a comparison, when flying up the road I have occasionally missed the early booking price offers and had to buy a more expensive ticket closer to my departure date. When I've boarded the plane it can be as much as half empty and I've often thought that their empty seats must be costly as they would have more chance of filling them if they kept the price at the early offer. Not dissimilar to the argument on here. Maybe some smarty can explain why businesses do this. Even if the seat is filled for just £1 it's still better than it being empty. Wish I could be there tonight as I love Scottish cup games. Usually a different atmosphere and we sometimes pull a result out just when we're not expected to.
  11. Good to see he's still wearing a bit of black and white
  12. Rae and Farrell both seem to have their feet on the ground and understand what we need to do to improve. Both speak with a mixture of realism and enthusiasm which is a good start. It feels like there is some heart going back into the club which was lost under Murray and previously Craig. Fridays game will be interesting, up against Thistle a club of similar size to ourselves. If Rae has done his homework, which I suspect he has, then we are in with a chance. He won't suffer fools gladly and has quickly recognised the passengers. I have hope in my heart for us ( naive I know) but if we go down in games we musnt go without a fight. COYS!
  13. 1976/ 1977 v Montrose( I think) a draw ( I think). ( lots of thinking going on) loved the atmosphere, felt like there was a real connection between the players and the fans. This was one of the big attractions for me and as a youngster as I'd always hated the seethe and hate of the old firm where their cause had nothing to do with football. In those days we felt we knew fitzy, stark, donald( give us a wave) hunter, sanny beckett etc. Jeez I'm nearly greetin'! Our present crop could do with a wee visit from guys from that era.
  14. If this is true then we will no longer be seen as a soft touch. Hate to say it but I've always kind of liked him ( boo hiss ) we all want saints to play with style but first and foremost we need to stop rolling over and having our tummy tickled, especially at home and players like him are what we need in the team to provide a bit of bite.
  15. Thought he came across well in his short interview, no outlandish claims, just some realistic improvement. He comes across as a good communicator who is nobody's fool. I don't care what team he supports as long as he gets every st Mirren player giving their all and we at least look as if we are organised. We were unlikely to attract a manager with a great track record so it might just be possible that everything that Rae has learned under good Managers in the past will be of benefit to us. Give the guy a chance
  16. Whoever the next manager is it's bound to split opinion amongst the supporters. One things for sure it will take someone pretty special to sort out this mess quickly. When a whole team can't string two passes together and can't find a team mate with a two yard pass then there's obviously problems. These guys are proud professionals yet look lost and amateurish at best. Fitness seems to be a major issue too as all the other teams in this division are scampering about the pitch while we huff and puff. A no nonsense, boot up the arse type manager who has the players fighting for every ball will do for starters. If you don't have commitment then you're beat before you start. We need more people at the club who understand what it means to play for st Mirren. An Alex Neil type would do nicely
  17. The highlights were painful to watch. Murrays public humiliation was not pleasant to see. Obviously he isn't cut out to be the manager of st Mirren but to see his post match interview on sons tv you cant help but have some sympathy for him as a human being. He is really hurting and fair play he resigned, saving everyone further misery. I didn't like his tactics, I didn't like his apparent arrogance but I would never want to see anyone fall apart due to their work. We can all act the tough guy when we are not the one in the spotlight, hats off to him. How many managers these days actually resign? They are usually sacked or leave by mutual consent. He has made things much easier. Now, who would want to step into his shoes given our present situation? The next man will have to be made of stern stuff.
  18. Just read back and clearly hadn't checked what I'd written. I suppose the writing was on the wall!
  19. Murals resignation has been the best news for the club in a long time. And as he's resigned I assume there will be no compensation. All good
