salmonbuddie got a reaction from FTOF in Brexit Negotiations
I thought this wee paragraph pretty much sums up where Scotland is right now
"The authors’ hatred of welfare could not be clearer. And how is this for a radical right-wing view of public services, in which the idea of co-operative pooling of resources for common goods like roads and hospitals is clearly anathema? ‘If you went into a store to buy furniture, and the salespeople took your money but then proceeded to ignore your requests and consult others about how to spend your money, you would quite rightly be upset. You would not think it normal or justifiable if the employees of the store argued that you really did not deserve the furniture, and that it should be shipped instead to someone whom they found more worthy. The fact that something very like this happens in dealings with government shows how little control the “customers” actually have.’"

Agree with virtually all of the article but has something happened to Alastair Campbell, I never expected to read that sort of article from a New Labour stalwart - or have I misread him all along.

How could you ever take that as ulcer inducing, oaky? Didn't the "bow and arrow" part give you a clue?

Pretty sure you're right about the first time it was on but it was shown a couple of weeks before Christmas as part of a Scottish night (BBC4 maybe?) then repeated (again) the other night for the 10th anniversary. -

Yer talkin to absolutely the wrong guy, I like repeats, there is nothing more conducive to inner harmony than watching a program, with absolutely no surprises, as George Harrison so memorably sang in My Sweet Lord
I like to sing it 16 times and then sometimes 16 times more...

.There's a difference between what is said in the GN section of a football forum and not adhering to the norms of political discourse and we know where that can lead, there has been a increased nastiness in the dialogue relating to the SNP it and it stems from Farage/UKIP and is now orchestrated by the gammon (sic) wing of the Tory party and led by the self styled Minister for the Union who is clearly unwilling to adhere to the rules of parliament on a ongoing basis and now routinely ignores parliamentary censure - it's not a simple case of like-vs-like.
FWIW I reckon it's a tactic I think will backfire and am quite happy to see them continue down this path, far from self-pity my opinion is bring it on - compare and contrast Johnson with the dignified & fragrant NS. she truly is the Steven Thompson of UK politix....

As for the highlighted bit oaky, you could have, once again you raise the bar in terms of pomposity.

I don't think he is meaning the muppets you get on both sides of practically any political point,
I believe he means the Tory party specifically and their less than civil approach. Big Bojo himself is a good example, sitting playing Candycrush or something while Ian Backford is talking in the House of Commons. Could be wrong though but that's my interpretation of BTB's comment here.

I haven't ignored them.
Like you - I simply interpreted the data to suit the agenda that I prefer... which is not a fruitloop one.

And yet, I choose to believe the shoals of front-line NHS staff - doctors and nurses - who say that the intensive care wards and beds are swamped by covid cases, and that they are struggling (successfully, it MUST be said!) to treat everyone and keep as many as possible alive.
That might well be the simple rationality that you are missing/avoiding?
That they have necessarily become more skilled (and better-equipped) in dealing with respiratory conditions is surely a very good thing? No need to split hairs about whether it is flu or covid, is there?

I hope the leg injury hurt and I'm loving the fact they got fined into the bargain.

Two walkers who sparked a rescue operation near Glencoe have been fined for breaching travel restrictions.
A member of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team was injured during the effort to get the pair, who travelled from Oban, down Buachaille Etive Mor.
The two men, aged 21 and 27, raised the alarm at about 3.30pm on Hogmanay.
One of them suffered a leg injury as he descended the 3,640ft Munro, and 25 members of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team were called out.
