  1. As a player and coach. Jack was fairly inexperienced as a manager when he came to us. Why keep bringing up Rotherham? Did Hibs fans bring up Bolton when Lennon was appointed? Did Aberdeen fans bring up Bristol City when McInnes was appointed. Everyone deserves another chance and AS will be judged by what he achieves during his time as manager of St Mirren FC. As for Hamilton, let's just wait and see how they do. They have also had some crap results in the LC. BTW, Ross County - tipped by many to win the league had a night to forget against lower opposition last night. Early days and it's still July.
  2. FWIW the feel good factor got a boot in the baws when JR decided to up sticks and leave along with the 4 key players you mentioned. That left the club with a chasm to fill and managerial choices were limited. JR was always going to be a hard act to follow based on his success but we will never know if he would have cut it at this level - he will have more cash at a bigger club now. Stubbs is experienced and well regarded and has a tough job. I think he needs to be given far more time to get the type of players he thinks are required and to develop a system that will have them playing the way he wants them to. There are no guarantees in the game and some players will succeed while others don't work out (as indicated by the number JR brought in and moved on). We have no idea what is going on behind the scene re AS trying to get players in. It appears that a number of his targets have not materialised (prob due to agents securing better deals) and it's not as easy as some think to get the quality you feel is necessary - we operate at a certain level. We also need to give the new guys time to adjust and get fit. People were raving about Coulson v Killie and how well the team performed. That shows there is talent there. Judging the manager and players before the paint on AS's door has dried is a bit premature imho. I will wait to see how the squad shape up over the next month or so before judging anyone.
  3. Exactly, I recall calls from a number on here calling for Jack to be removed during his first 3-4 months. How much of a laughing stock would we be if we sacked our new manager before July was out. The league will determine our success as in staying up, the Betfred Cup is unlikely to adorn our trophy room again for a long time. Judge the manager when his squad is increased/improved and not before pre-season has finished.
  4. Far too long in the tooth mate having been through the mill over 49 years of supporting. I might have had my torch and pitchfork 30 years ago but now too old, crabbit and used to the ups and downs at STMFC.
  5. You are right Drew but that squad was knocked out of the LC, pumped by Thistle, Dundee and Ross County (?). Jack had assembled the nucleus over a longer period of time than Stubbs has had and didn't experience the loss of 4 key players. Not excusing the team performance or what appears to be some strange player recruitment by AS but I think we need to give AS more time to sort out the problems etc.
  6. There were 6 starters from Jack's team tonight with 2 of his used as subs. The loss of Smith, Morgan, Reilly and Davies has yet to be addressed.
  7. My point exactly. I will wait until at least first quarter before getting concerned.
  8. Not disagreeing with what you say but just for one moment let's talk about the attitude of the players. We have better quality than Spartans and QP and time some demonstrated it. Manager takes some blame as should full time professional players.
  9. You mean Stubbs of course and not Stokes. Far too early for Chairman statements. Did you ask for this when pumped by a poor Thistle team? It's July FFS. At least let's get our squad complete. Not happy with not winning against lesser teams but shit happens.
  10. How many said this at the pre season results last season? I will wait until squad is complete, match fit and some gelling of new players takes place before throwing myself off a cliff. Cannot believe some who say there is a bad dressing room.
  11. The man was never a good keeper but he's left this world and no matter what, he was a saints player in a team that had a lot of talent but crap managers.
  12. Exactly. McInnes bombed at Bristol City but has proved he is a decent manager. Lennon bombed at Bolton too so sometimes managers flourish at certain clubs.
  13. Let's not forget 4 of that team left - Morgan, Smith and Davies plus Gavin choose not to sign a new contract. Any team losing that quality would suffer and replacing the first 3 names would always be hard.
  14. You are correct I was thinking of QOS result in 74/75 season. Still, 5-0 v Shire is an embarrassment too. I also remember travelling to Montrose in 73/74 season and losing 5-0.
  15. I have awful memories of losing 5 goals at home to East Stirling.
  16. Yes, perhaps we should be beating teams like Spartans with ease but football doesn't always work that way. Remember Celtic struggling to beat EK Thistle? How about Hearts v Auchinkeck Talbot where they scraped a 1-0? Both bigger clubs than us. Yes, we struggled and no doubt AS will have taken notice. Better to get problems sorted via a cup game and resolved for league duties.
  17. Thank f**k the Elvis we know is back to his doomladen best. It is 13 Jul and players still to come in. I will at least wait until the full squad is in place and see just how good the players and gelling of the team is before making any comments.
  18. Gary Mac can sit on his contract just like any other player under contract. My point, if it wasn't clear enough, is why would any player give up top flight football to play for the likes of Dumbarton and for less money when they can sit tight and fight for a place?
  19. Mullen is under contract. Do you expect him to take a pay cut and drop up to 2 divisions? Whether AS rates him remains to be seen but for now he is under contract and a chance to play at the top table.
  20. We have Sammy in the event of that happening. Personally think we should have kept RS and loaned him out to see how he progresses.
  21. Also possible they sign him and allow him to remain at Hibs for this season.
