Last Shop Standing

I know I said I was logging out until Tuesday night and I'm still staying away from the football forums (too much self-harm going on) but I thought I'd tell y'all about a program currently on SKY Arts (see thread title) about the demise of independent record retailers. Paisley's own independent Apollo Records was featured. To be repeated in the wee sma' hours (2:20am).

Very enjoyable watch, had me thinking of some of the shops that I used to purchase vinyl from in Paisley, so far Record Factory, Record Market, A wee shop in the piazza beside the old DER telly shop, Stereo One. I can even remember a wee shop in Ferguslie that used to sell records. There was also Woolworths, Boots and Littlewoods.

Mid 90's though I did move to cds, used to be good going into shops like Apolla (Record Market) and chatting about the music that I was looking to buy, can even remember me lending some of the shop assistants my cds that I had just purchased so they could listen to it.

The last 6 or so years I have moved to downloading my music from specialised on-line sites, no way near the same but it does suit me to listen and download 10 plus songs at a time of my choosing.

Thanks for the heads up Bud the Baker, really good watch

The Post Office sold them in Ferguslie ,they used to get the ones that had no middle as if they had come from jukeboxes.

I think there where a few general shops like that in 80's, got a few 7 inch singles in my collection without the middle bit

You had to buy a wee plastic insert to fill the hole and let you play it on the record player. Happy days!!
