... your OP sites the Daily Record as its source! Apart from Paul English there is hardly a decent journalist at the paper!

I appreciate the Record is a low quality newspaper, but despite it's political leanings it's never been the propaganda rag that the National is. You'd be as well quoting Wings Over Scotland for all this is worth

Yes please. Imagine person A is, to all intents and purposes, in complete financial charge of 2 people with person B issued pocket money by A and told to spend that specific amount of money. If person B spends less than money issued they are castigated (as you in fact did when the SG announced an underspend recently) . They have almost no ability to spend more than the amount allocated.

Person A however is an idiot. He has miscalculated and run up a debt of around £14 billion and only tells person B this once person B starts to make noises about running their own affairs.

Why on earth would person A running up this sort of debt be a solid case for him being the only sensible candidate to continue running the finances of person B?

Why would this "blow person B out of the water"?

Explain that and I will be very happy.

Person B is in trouble because his party made bold predictions on oil revenue in it's White Paper for Independence and today, clear as anything, we can see just how badly Person B f**ked his sums. It's probably just as well the SNP moved Swinney to another department, cause he'd have to resign. The SNP case for independence is in the bin.

Dear oh dear, The Record has never been a propaganda rag?! Does it not tell voters to vote Labour on the day of every election?

Dibble, there is a difference between an editorial and the newspapers whole agenda. There's no attempt at neutral reporting by The National. It's a nationalist rag with a clear objective to spread nationalist propaganda. If you want a comparable UK rag you'd be looking at the Morning Star or Socialist Worker.

Predictable the the loony Yooniex are wanking themselves to death over a report which was commissioned by a rabid Thatcherite in Ian Lang which was designed in an attempt to thwart devolution and make Scotland look bad economically. Where I will criticize the Scottish Government is that they have missed the opportunity to come up their own annual report as a rebuttal to this in a pitch to the electorate making a significant play on onshore growth which has been conveniantly omitted by the pro Unionist rags. And anyway, oil is a commodity not a dependable necessity but trying telling that to idiots like Dicko.

The article I posted was written by one of the former leading Tory journalists in Scotland...

I don't know her or what her politics used to be, but it's fairly clear where she makes her money these days. As a freelance journalist she clearly makes her money publishing nationalist propaganda. I suppose it's a bit like that Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh. She was initially a Tory and stood for election in Govan, attacking Alex Salmond's stance on the Kosovo War, then she joined the Labour Party and then defected to the SNP having clearly decided that was the best route for her to gain a financially rewarding career in politics. It's funny how principles can be bought and sold.

After 300 odd years of this union, around 20 of which has involved Scotland having its own parliament and these figures being based on Scotland having no tax raising powers; you really do have to wonder just how Westminster managed to ruin Scotland.

None of which explains the size of the deficit or answers the question I asked.

Its funny its 'Scotland's oil' when the price has plummeted. Wonder who's it will be when prices climb and we are being clobbered in the forecourts as a result. Didn't hear a murmur then with regards the latter. Funny that.

What the f**k are you blabbering about now? Alex Salmond was busy telling us all it was Scotlands Oil in the last Independence Referendum. I don't remember much argument over the geographical claim being made from any side. Salmond claimed Scotland must be the first country ever to have been "cursed" with oil. Well it looks like he was partly right. It's the Scottish National Party that was cursed with oil cause it's their woeful predictions that have killed their argument for independence forever.

Its noticeable that Stuart is one of these gullible Yoonies that eager swallows everything that the Yoonie press comes out with as gospel. He ignores the previous point about GERS being the brainchild of an arch Thatcherite and that oil is a commodity not a dependable necessity. And does he realise that Scoland only receives 2% of the overall Treasury take which equates to 1.8bn..So when, as the Yoonie media claims, we have lost 97 per cent of oil revenues, weigh that 97 per pf that 1.8bn against Scotlands total GDP of 250bn then it debunks the myth that Scotland is an oil dependent nation. Nothing is perfect, far from it but the country is not the economic basket case the likes of Andrew Neil makes us out to be. Oh and did I mention that onshore growth of 1.9bn earlier? Just thought I would throw that in for posterity.

Do you think that repeating this nonsense is going to magic it to be true?

The £15 billion hole has NOT been caused by oil.

Why on earth are you claiming it is?

Although it could be argued that London-centric projects DO benefit the majority of the people in this country.  :)

Sorry what?

It's not been caused by falling tax revenues from the oil industry? What has it been caused by then?

Oaksoft, if you had your way and Scotland had voted to be independent what would you have scrapped? Pensions? Benefits? The NHS? Free Education? Cause trust me most of them would have been completely unaffordable today had we not been part of the UK.
