  1. We don't have a divine right to beat anyone. Yes we should be looking to win this type of game but you can't say we should always beat teams like Thistle, that is plainly nonsense.
  2. I think we all need to accept that the BoD are happy simply surviving in this league. I don't like it but it's staring us in the face We may not manage to even do that with this threadbare squad. It will be another nervy end to the season no doubt.
  3. It is exceptionally quiet and that makes me think that we don't have any signing targets lined up. Depressing if true and it would be a dangerous strategy whether we win our next 2 games or not.
  4. Any price for Steve Galloway or Steve Kinsey?
  5. Pretty sure the 3 goals we lost at Dumbarton that day came after Jimmy Bone brought his nephew on as sub and ir disrupted the whole team. Still, at 3-0 up with less than 15 to go he should have been able to bring me on up front and still leave with 3 points.
  6. Maybe not but realistically who are we going to get in this window that will be any better? Not a big fan of Fallon but some cover is better than none.
  7. Anyone reading Div's post without knowledge of our results after Isma arrived might have been forgiven for thinking our results in general had changed dramatically for the better. There is absolutely no doubt that Isma had a massive impact on the big cup games and it is very very likely that we would not have won the League Cup without him. However the context of Div's post is about bringing a player in and the impact he might make on the rest of our season. The fact remains that, as good a player as Isma was, his introduction had precious little bearing on our league results. They were shite with him and shite without him. Are we hoping that Campbell, or anyone else that we bring in, is just going to help us in the cup? Surely not.
  8. Erm transformed our performances in the cup surely. Isma only played in 2 winning league matches - the home win against Caley at the end of January and the final match of the season at Kilmarnock.
  9. Maybe not a good day historically but what about 4th Dec 1999 - St Mirren 2 Falkirk 1 Basher scores the winner to keep our run to the 1st Division title on track at around about the same time as my son was born (4.14 pm). Needless to say I missed the game and my pleas to call him Barry fell on deaf ears.
  10. The Thommohawk's goal in the Cup Final is the best goal I've never seen.
  11. Not that I fancy us to score tonight but I couldn't resist a little bit of the 59/1 on betfair for Jim Goodwin to score the first goal. He had the ball in his hands to take the penalty that never was against Motherwell and if he is on spot kicks tonight 59/1 is massive value.
  12. We could do with a goalscorer just now - have you inherited any of the great man's talent???!!!
  13. Some cracking memories on here guys, but surprised no one has mentioned a game in Feb/March 77 when we were going for the First Divison title. My memory is getting hazy now but I think the opponents were Hamilton and we were labouring to a 0-0 draw. Clydebank were our title rivals and with our game still in progress they announced the Bankies result over the tannoy. They had either drawn or lost away to QOS I think. A big cheer goes up, the team gets a lift (allegedly) and Saints promptly score the winner - something tells me it was Derek Hyslop who scored. I'm sure Accies (or whoever the opponents were) made an official complaint about the announcement. Someone else must remember this, keep me right guys.
  14. No we lost all 4 league matches against them in season 78/79. Maybe you're thinking about season 79/80 when we finished 3rd? That season both teams won 1 match and the 2 others were drawn.
  15. Nope, we beat them 2-1 twice at Celtic Park and 3-1 at Love Street.
  16. Harsh to leave Billy Stark and Frank McGarvey out and I'd have Bobby Reid in place of Mark Fulton, Clarke at right back in place of Beckett, Iain Munro at left back and Peter Weir in place of Scanlon..
  17. Only if you're young enough to not remember the 70's and 80's. Not even close to being included in my opinion.
  18. December 17th, 1977 to be precise. It was a good result for Celtic, the only point they took from 4 matches against us that season.
  19. Absolutely no doubt that Iain Munro was the best left back, both defensively and offensively, that I have ever seen wearing the stripes. And I saw him in both spells with the club. However I seem to recall that he tried to hold the club to ransom over money as a player then in later years took the piss by accepting the managers job only to resign within 24 hours to join those giants of Scottish football, Raith Rovers. So in summation a great player but not the most loyal. I will always prefer the likes of Money, McWhirter and Murray to the likes of Munro. There is also no question in my mind that standards in Scottish football have deteriorated vastly since the late 70's. When we won the 1st Div in 1976-77 with a team that included Stark, Fitzpatrick, McGarvey, Richardson and the ill-fated Bobby Reid, the opposition included players such as Davie Cooper, Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee. Where are the players of that calibre now? Not in the lower leagues of Scottish football, that's for sure.
  20. Surely supporting your team is about more than just meekly accepting things no matter how bad they get. If you don't get frustrated or annoyed at times it strikes me that you don't really care very much about the club at all. I'm not saying that it should affect you for very long but at least walking out of the ground you should feel some sort of emotion about what you've just seen, otherwise what's the point in following any club? We're all Saints fans, no one is expecting miracles. But we should be able to win more than 1 league match in 13 or whatever it is now. We should be able to at least compete with the likes of Caley Thistle and Ross County. And we should be able to provide some excitement and entertainment to the 3,000 odd who turn up to the home matches. We were able to do all of the above in Danny's 2nd season in charge so it's not too much to ask.
  21. I was only counting league games for a direct comparison with the Hendrie situation and because that was the figure being bandied about by Oaksoft etc. The exact number is of course irrelevant. There has been an unacceptable level of performance for far longer than 4 league games with no sign of it turning around and team selections and tactics becoming increasingly erratic. Like many others I like Danny but I love St Mirren and I feel it's time for a parting of the ways.
  22. You're right, we don't do sackings 4 games into a season, at least until now. The BoD had the decency to wait until 5 games into season 2002-03 to relieve Tom Hendrie of his duties........
  23. The Rangers game wasn't a semi final. We did play them in the semi final around that time but that was when we drew 2-2 at home and then suffered a massive injustice in the 2nd leg at Ibrox, losing 2-1 after leading 1-0. Before the 2010 final that would have been my worst league cup memory, although I was at Forfar for the 5-1 defeat under Alex Miller and that was a shocker.
  24. Would you care to tell Danny where to play Gowser? He has him so deep he's nearly in the back 4 these days. When he's not on the bench that is.
  25. I don't want to be part of any lynch mob. I just want the truth regarding the lack of signings. If Danny has money that he hasn't spent and allowed us to start the season so ill-prepared he deserves to lose his job. If that's not the case then the Board have a lot to answer for because I don't see any other top flight club having cut their squad so severely.
