  1. Evening Stuart Thank you for taking the time to google Ben Burgess and twist the facts to suit your muted point. I'm sure Ben would fully agree with you - a young man in his 30's who has over a decade as a top flight player who has bags of life experience and expertise to share with young people. A guy who could of gone down the pundit route or joined the old boys gravy train but instead chose to retrain and work with young people - possibly something he will enjoy doing for the remaining 35 years of his working life. Sadly your ignorance of teaching methods, styles and pedogy is highlighted in your lack of knowledge - yes calculus - dates in history - of mice and men - lay up shots in basketball - population in Bangladesh and every other topic on every subject remains the same but how it is taught continually evolves. Anyway as I posted previously I don't generally get drawn into low level pub debate on how typically lazy teachers are. I'm secure in the fact that the young people under my Pastoral care and tutorage get a good deal. Remember if it's such an easy way to make a living it's probably not to late for you to retrain. Finally mate - this is a topic that could be debated all day - but not by me - teaching is not a 22hour a week profession - I don't know why Scottish teachers seem to have the reported levels of stress - just be thankful that hard working teachers have given you and yours a platform to become successful in their chosen field! I won't be posting any more on this topic as its Christmas and I'm enjoying relaxing and spending time with my family - I'm only online because I can't watch any more bloody Masterchef! Have a pleasant Christmas
  2. If you don't mind Stuart I'd like to pick you up on a few ill informed points you make?Firstly the story of the tradesman and his theory that if someone was an expert in his subject they wouldn't be teaching..... Obviously you missed the Conservative Government recruitment drive to allow quick access for the brightest graduates to enter the profession or perhaps you were unaware of the Blairite policy of throwing money at industry to recruite some of the finest experienced leaders to share their knowledge with the next generation? Or perhaps you'd like to ignore the professional sports people who become some of the finest sporting ambassadors or want to share their love of sport with the youth of today. Please google Ben Burgess +Hull City +Teaching I can't imagine why you would use the same tired old presentation time after time? Sadly the Education world I know isn't like that. I'd love it if the wheel didn't have to be reinviented on what seems like an annual basis but sadly each successive Education secretary wants to put their own stamp on what is taught or courses offered. Please don't get me started on Michael Gove. Exam boards are businesses- they change the content of the course requirements of what needs studied on a regular basis - they add in modules - remove modules - add in online content - presentation that need completing. it's shifting sand it changes all the time so if you are lucky you teach a lesson once then have to alter it for the next time. Honestly mate I could go on and on - but I won't - no-one likes a whinging teacher! It's easy to belief you are an expert on Education just because you went to school- but the world of Education you and I experienced and the job I started in 92 is chalk and cheese ( see what I did there ?) I don't as a rule get drawn into defending the profession I'm happy to serve but every so often I have to challenge ill informed press. Everybody knows good and bad workers - whatever the field of employment- my wife a non teacher now is the biggest advocate of defending teachers in her office because she knows how hard good teachers like me work. To conclude I hope some good or inspiring teachers shaped you or your families existence. Please stick to what you do best - winding up some of the forum trolls - not teacher bashing -festive greetings!
  3. Ok I'm l bite. I'm proud to be a teacher . It's a job I've done for over 20years. I love doing the job I do - I'm in the fortunate position that I make a difference to young people and their life chances every day. I wish the picture you paint Stu was just one percent as you describe but alas it's not and why let the facts get in the way of a little fiction. So for the 22.5 hour working week you describe - is presumably the time spent in front of a class - I wonder how long it takes to plan that delivery - shall I tell you? Stu you seem an intelligent and articulate man - perhaps in your career you have had to deliver a seminar, a presentation, or lead a session. Say the session was 20 minutes long - I'd bet you spent at least that preparing for that. Did you factor in preparing the recourses or differentiating the resources for students or different ability - or what about having to deal with some of the challenging behaviour of a small minority of young people. After the lesson how long do you think it takes to mark 28 folders giving individual feedback and offering a way forward. Anyway I won't bite any more - like I said I love my job - I haven't had a day off in 3 years - I'm in relatively secure employment - I get good holidays and a reasonable pension. Like I say to anyone who slates me - my profession - the holidays or pension is If it's such an easy and good gig - Why aren't you doing it?
  4. I keep reading we need a manager with experience - I'm not convinced - did Gus - Tom Hendre or Alex Ferguson come to us with much experience? No!? But they were successful for us ....... We need someone who will come in a kick arse - maybe thats Alex Rae's strength ? I'm not interested in anyone with a "vision" just someone with an initial short term plan to get us out of the shit and give us something to build on - hopefully Alex Rae will be more successful than Coughlin / Murray / Hay / Craig et al!
  5. Thanks Shull Ah well I suppose that's a massive profit to look forward to next year then !!!
  6. Genuine questions having not viewed the accounts Does it state anywhere how much we made in our renting out the ground to Celtic? Have we made any money from the airport car parking venture? Do the accounts take into consideration the costs for fitting out the void area of the stadium?
