  1. The midfield really missed McGinn today for his energy and dynamism, McLean still looks a wee bit away from full fitness. I'd argue we should've started with Newton in the middle and Campbell on the right. All things back to normal next week I'd give Newton a rest as he's toiling a bit. One of the few positives was that it's good to see McGregor getting back to his marauding best. Our 'fans' astound me at times, guy today roaring at Lennon to encourage the team, whilst he clearly wasn't.
  2. Grainger was a disappointment but this puts a lot of pressure on young Sean.
  3. As far as I know Brian McGinty never played right back. Craig Brown gave him his most recent deal on the strength of his performances there. So in actual fact he has a decent scoring record for a defender.
  4. Reasonably happy with this signing, he can play right back. Maybe he'll step in there letting Naismith go to centre half in Cheesys absence.
  5. On paper Grainger was a good signing. We needed a left back and he was available with plenty of SPL experience, sadly he wasn't 100% fit when he joined and never really got going. I'd be a bit concerned if he left though and Kelly got injured. Worth noting though it says he can go as opposed to he's been released, similar situation to the one Mair was in. If he did leave there would be major cash freed up with Barron, Mair and Grainger off the wage bill.
  6. I'd have to set up a helpline for you if we signed Anderson.
  7. There's no way he'd have signed knowing he'd be back up to Thommo. In any case I don't think he's very good so they're welcome to him.
  8. I'm going to make a really controversial statement but I don't think we'll sign anyone else.
  9. I wouldn't see that as a disaster.
  10. Always liked the look of Barron when he first broke into the team, one particular game against Celtic he made a fool of McGeady a few times. Won plenty of plaudits after his season at left back but it never really got going for him again after that. Wish him all the best but I'd be surprised to see him playing at a decent level again.
  11. You could see that Liam Craig challenge coming from the second Goodwin broke away with the ball. It was an outrageous decision not to book him. For all his limitations as a player I really like Goodwin and really think he's being harshly treated. On a positive note though, we were immense in the first half and John McGinn just gets better with every game he plays, the boy is sheer class, without a doubt the best prospect I've seen at St Mirren.
  12. A lot of people seem to be missing the point here. Rightly or wrongly Lennon decided over a year ago that Mair was no longer part of his first team plans so firstly dropped him and secondly made him available for transfer etc. It's for the best that he's away and no longer being paid by us, the only issue I can see is it leaves us a wee bit short of cover. For what it's worth I always thought there was little between him and Cheesy as players, Cheesy obviously edged it in our managers eyes.
  13. Mair did us a turn at times over the 5 years, was pretty steady for the most part but a total waste to have a high earner on the bench so hopefully freed up some funds to get a player or two in.
  14. I don't think we should be punting either at the moment, they're both out of contract at the end of the season in any case.
  15. Tim Clancy is a possibility, can cover full back or centre half.
  16. There is such a rumour and believe it or not it's in the Rumour Mill.
  17. Good signing, I'd expect to see a defender coming in, Mair leaving and that'll probably be it.
  18. First decent player we've been linked with for a long time. Would be a brilliant signing.
  19. Brilliant news for John and some long overdue recognition for the lad. Best player on our books by far, an absolute joy to watch due to his skill and attitude.
  20. We've got to be realistic about this transfer window. As much as some people don't rate our current centre halves there's no way Danny will replace either Cheesy or McGregor, also we have cover in Naismith, Goodwin or Mair if he stays. My bet would be that he'll be looking at a big striker in the Parkin mould that can give Thommo a rest and a midfielder to cover us in the absence of McLean. Can't really see any other positions he'd be looking at strengthening.
  21. Jeeso, Driver wouldn't even be the best winger at our club if he signed, never mind in the league.
  22. As much as I love Teale as a player we then have the problem that he can't offer any defensive cover as Newton can on the right. Naismith likes to bomb forward and that could leave us very exposed on the right.
