  1. Go onto the official site and read the comment re Kenny. The player decided he would sign a new contract. Our supporters, our management team and, quite obviously, our BoD's all felt Kenny was a player worth having. IF we hadn't offered a contract worthy of the name he would have been able to leave for nowt. I'm pretty certain he would have got another club under those conditions. I'm as upset as many about him leaving but, let's be honest, we were accusing him of inconsistency last season. After calming down and reading the statement I now believe, contrary to my first inclination, that the Board did what they could to get McLean to sign. It's another piece of bad luck that he played so well for us during the first part of the season!
  2. To be honest I don't have a Scooby how things are likely to pan out on the fourteenth. It could be the new lad makes us ask, "Kenny who?" or, "Whit the feck?" Until we see how we set up and how true to his word GT is about recruits I'll "haud ma wheesht" and hope there is an a p.m. (post Mclean) and not an a.m. (another massacre) on St Valentines day.
  3. I posted on another thread but I think it worth reiterating. "I was of the opinion that the fee was too low but I see where you're coming from. If Kenny had stayed fit before and during the last two January windows we were all expecting his departure. After careful consideration and accepting what was reported on the O.S. I concur that it was outwith the boards control. I think we're all just upset that our apparent only saviour was "wheeked" from under our noses."

  5. We just might flourish with natural right sided and natural left sided skillful players. It could even be that we'll be a better team. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be upset at shedding our top scorer and, as it stood, lynchpin in midfield for a paltry sum. I hope we find out that it was a very well disguised blessing and the names mentioned step up to the plate.
  6. It appears they did. On the official website the club say they honoured an agreement with Kenny and Kenny wanted the move.
  7. And here is the statement from the Saint Mirren board.......... .
  8. Not true. If there was no release clause they just tell Aberdeen to Feck off or come back with a fee more akin to the present market similarities. Then let it leak that the Dons were sniffing and see where it takes us. The BoDs blinked first as they usually do.
  9. That was before we sold our family silver for 5 magic beans!
  10. I can't help but hope this came from the same source that had us sold "this week".
  11. I would be very surprised if the release was triggered by the relatively measely amount of £300K. If the BoD's have allowed Kenny to move on without any clause kicking in they'll be called Santa Clause by the Dons. Aberdeen will get over £1,000,000 in the summer for the lad!
  12. As pedantic as it seems, they weren't. Celtic were/are but, given the fact Rangers are deed, THE rangers were never a big club with European honours.
  13. Only in the case of one of the two. We've had more forays into Europe than the rangers! We've won more domestic trophies than them too. In fact We've won more challenge cups than them and that's saying something given they've had 3 attempts to date!
  14. Wrong. I think you'll find he's in cloud cuckoo land!
  15. It's called communicating Drew. Not everyone will agree with me but, hey ho. Them's the breaks!
  16. But some do get development fees which, as far as I'm concerned, is a method of cheating smaller clubs. Money changes hands. No matter what you call it. It's only the amounts that vary. As for the quality. The very fact the players are better coached is to do with the quality of the coaching, which will undoubtedly deteriorate as the extra revenue from TV etc. diminishes. This is a self perpetuating situation as, as the income decreases, so does the potential for player development. Unless we continue to invest internally and that means continuing the transfer setup as it is the carrot which ensures clubs keep bringing through talent.
  17. During an interview prior to last night's fantastic victory GT hinted that his reason was more to do with it not making a hoot of difference therefore not worth the hassle it might have caused.
  18. Football is not a typical business arena. When clubs attempt to bring normal business ethics into their environment it ends in a poorer product. It's entertainment. Even more. It's tribal. The clubs have a finite customer base which is typically much lower than most businesses. They need to augment their income by uncommon means in an attempt to reach their goal. (No pun intended). Unlike a lot of workers, footballers have the luxury of being paid for playtime. They have the luxury of being contracted and, if they fail, they are entitled to full financial compensation for the remainder of that contract. IF they decide they want to move after signing this contract it seems reasonable that the club should receive compensation for their endeavours to improve the player and to finance replacing said either through they themselves paying compensation to another club or to develop a replacement. The players also receive part of the compensation.
  19. The day transfer fees are outlawed is the day smaller clubs stop nurturing talent. We will have poorer facilities and poorer coaches to teach them.
  20. Plaudits go to, not only the back four, but the midfield in front. Goodwin was IMMENSE but he wasn't alone in defending. This was a lesson in how to hold onto a lead. Yes. We rode our luck on two occasions but that's football. We also used the "outball" to almost good effect. In essence. This was an excellent away performance and an excellent away win. We looked like a team tonight.
  21. Merchant seaman use this loophole as a norm. I have known some to take a 6 week holiday in the carribean to "circumnavigate" paying tax.
  22. Some might ask if it's morally right to financially penalise people because of their earning potential by way of punitive tax banding
  23. As I pay, it was just the done thing in footba;ll, as I pay, I was told, as I pay, that I didn't have to, as I pay, pay so much!
  24. Answer in pounds and pence? I don't know exactly how many pence but £0 won't be far wrong. Oh,.... and peanuts.
