  1. I missed this Goodwin incident. I take it it was blatatnt? It would have been a travesty if we had taken any less than full points from that game. I think we became complacent when they went down to nine but we had enough good clear cut chances to win it by a fair margin. If anything that is the only disappointment of the game. Fantastic performance from all the youngsters. It's sometimes forgotten that Connor is also just a youngster so should be included as such. Goodwin has stopped criticising and now appears to be encouraging the kids and I think this has helped. Which canme first? The good run or the lack of recriminations? I don't know but long may it continue. mcAusland also had another fine game as did McGowan. the whole team have a belief that was missing in the early part of the season. I said, while we were underachieving that I believed we were still ring rusty and the pre season was a shambles and I wonder if this is all that was wrong. We didn't hit the ground running. Hibs next up and a chance to do something we haven't done in years. Win three LEAGUE games on the trot.
  2. For those who criticise Harkins and Grainger. You only have to look back to Teales first outings to see that some players take a while to settle in. Both the players mentioned have had major contributions with other clubs and I am hopeful that, now we seemed to have steadied the ship they might go on to prove the doubters wrong. They aren't bad players but at the moment they can't get into the team because those holding the jerseys deserve to keep them. Youngsters are notorious for being inconsistent so we may need a fully fit, fully focused Grainger sooner or later. As has been mentioned. Football is about squads nowadays and it's good to have competition for places. Perhaps those on the sidelines will be more determined to do well when they get their chance ala Mair.
  3. Profoundly deaf people would be a danger in those jobs and tend not to do them. It's not prejudice. It's common sense. I suppose it would be prejudicial to exclude blind people from those jobs too?
  4. Why is it a problem that no specific amount is brought forth? It's more about the principle, or lack of said, that is at stake. In some cases, unscrupulous employers using a system to drive down the living standards simply to increase their profit margins. People work to live. Not live to work. they are entitled to expect a reasonable return for their endeavours. Finding their salaries being effectively reduced in comparison to inflation and, even worse, reduced in reality is wrong when it is purely to maintain or improve profits. In a situation where the economy is flat the employers prove themselves morally bankrupt if they feel only the employees should feel the pinch. If I were to say that an electrician, for instance, is compelled to accept a wage which is equivalent to that of 5 years ago you might suggest it's still, in your eyes, enough to survive on. That doesn't make it right to force down the salaries of those in the industry by utilising foreign workers. To employ is to use.... Not abuse.
  5. Again Oakie. I work in the industry and see it first hand the use of Polish electricians etc. by companiies who find it cheaper to pay to bring those people over and pay for accomodation while paying them far less than local workers. this is a fact and the only way to compete is to accept that far less than the expected rate for the job. Sometimes at rates corresponding to the norm of 5 or 6 years ago. The difference is that the local workers have families HERE and have to pay for that family's food at UK prices for 2013. This makes it difficult to accept the remuneration offered.
  6. Or a bus driver. Or an lorry driver. Or a forklift driver. Or even working in any position where it's important to actually use that particular sense to keep yourself and coworkers safe. Now. I would say it definitely DID affect her ability to work by limitation.
  7. An average is very hard to define as the jobs are so varied. I can say that, from my experience, on average for any given discipline, you would receive at least an extra 50%. AND you would be paid living allowances or hotel fees as well if the jobs were of a temporary nature.
  8. Try writing sensible replies SD. You destroy your own argument almost immediately. Pay peanuts... Get monkeys is the old adage. Scottish engineering skills are drained by not only the southern hemisphere. Norway uses them and pay substantially more for the privilege. Eastern European countries such as Azerbaijan and, to a lesser extent because of its instability, Kazakhstan have many Scottish workers, (and others from the UK). They are there in their droves. Our industry has been desimated by greed. Yes. In the first instance, the unions decided they could hold companies to ransom but, for me, even more damage was done by government attempting to destroy the unions allowing companies to drive down wages and giving those who were best at their chosen field a reason to opt for better recompense for their endeavours. You spout p**h and dress it up as fact while ignoring those who actually work in the industry just to antagonise and cajoule people into reacting to your nonsense. A sad and destructive little man who has delusions of grandeur. Ring true?
  9. I work in the off shore industry. Specifically engineering and manufacturing equipment for pipe and cable laying and launching and landing rig "jackets". I see first hand the use by external contractors of, in particular, Polish workers as it is CHEAPER to pay for these guys to come over than it is to pay the proper going rate for the industry. This forces those who need the work to accept lower rates of pay than before. I canassure you that this IS driving down the rate for good, experienced UK resident tradesmen.
  10. Reported- Not knowing the diff between Deity and Devil.
  11. Look deeper into it and, like most European shipbuilding and offshore yards there are a great number of expats delivering the knowhow and expertise. The reason for this is quite simple. They follow the M_O_N_E_Y! The exodus began years ago and it continues to this day. Ifs and buts, but who knows what would have happened if we kept our highly skilled and highly sought after workforce. As it is we now augment our homegrown staff with an influx of Poles etc. who are willing to work for less therefore perpetuating the downward spiral of salaries causing more to seek better recompense for their labours further afield. It's a vicious circle.
  12. Reported ma faither fur lyin' tae me fur years!
  13. Naw! I just thought for a minute I was Faraway Saint!
  14. Funnily enough. That's what it was like at my work today. My new boss brought me in for a "chat" to outline his vision and get my ideas. He loves the idea of one to one conversations. Anyway. Part way through he says, "You know John. We're really not that different." I intend to report him for calling me an idiot and a fanny!
  15. Is that Mars Attack? How do you know? Perhaps he's on Danny's bucket list.
  16. At least wait till we're losing again!
  17. So. Do you advocate eviction due to non ability to pay? Perhaps the poorhouse should be reinvented. Those who can't afford to pay a ridiculous tax, (and make no mistake, it IS a tax. It's taxing for those least equiped to pay) could send their kids up the chimney or down the mine. Oh. Wait a minutwe. Our government destroyed those mines so the latter is a non starter. just need to get them out on the streets with the begging bowls. Underoccupancy is a nonsense. The majority of those who are in oversized accomodation can't get a smaller habitat in an area equivalent to their current abodes. YES. Make those who are screwing the system tow the line as much as is possible while ensuring NO innocent party/ies is/are hurt. I'd much rather accept the fact that some guilty get away than one innocent is hung out to dry.
  18. Get this p*** It's so out there that they should start a new section and call it Field Marshal nonsense. I n fact they should just get the OP sectioned.... End of.
  19. My condolences to his family should they venture onto the site. Sad news for all concerned.
  20. Alternatively. What if the Icelandic guy is a flop? What if we continue to win and our confidence grows and grows? What if McLean has been promoted to the full Scotland squad? What if McGowan has his mind right on the game? What if WE sign a loanee of the ilk of Isma? NO NEED TO GET CROSS ABOUT IT!
  21. Let's be honest. If it were a three line whip, or any kind of flagellation device, they wouldd all be queuing up!
