He was with Saints for about ten years and I think he played in goal and centre half at times. He rarely if ever played in the first team. Seems strange now when we don't have reserve teams to think that blokes would hang around for years. I suppose even then the reserve players might have got as much as most working men did without having to work a forty hour week. Big Jack was still involved with Neilsonians Amateurs when I played with them in the 60's. Jack's nephew Peter Waddell wasn't a bad player and he played cricket for Ferguslie. Peter is my age and I was told that four years ago he was still playing golf at Bridge of Weir with a handicap of 1. Almost unbelievable. Big jack was a keen tennis player at Ferguslie too.
