bender rodriguez reacted to Drew in Open Letter To Mr. Stuart Gilmour
I can confirm that Stewart Gilmour often pops in for a wee read, and occasionally to contribute.
SG spoke at some length to Chick Young last night in a pre-match interview on Radio Shortbread. I have to say, there is little of note to report from what was a somewhat predictable discourse. What did strike me, however, was some of the chat among the pundits and hacks after the interview. They spoke of what great guys our BoD are - genuine football people, and St Mirren fans. A lot was made of how they epitomise all that is good about how clubs should be run, and that they will be a great loss to the Scottish game when/if they finally sell the club.
It was all very nice, if a bit condescending.
From a personal persepctive, I want to hear people within the club raging about our predicament. I want passion, not platitudes. Decisive action, not the resigned fatalism that seemes to be pervading the club at every level, from the shares sale, to the outcome of the league campaign. The latest merchandising debacle sums it up perfectly.
I want to hear the directors, coaches, and players echo our cries that this isn't bloody acceptable, and to tell us what they intend to do about it.
All the back slapping in the world won't get us out of this hole. If the current BoD are to bow out shortly, there is a very real danger that their legacy won't be saving the club from the dreaded Reg, securing the move to the new stadium, or winning us the League Cup. No, there is every chance that the legacy will be presiding over the gutless relinquishing of our top flight status.

Aye, a staggering decision. Even so, it should have fired up a sense of righteous indignation and steely determination, rather than toys out the pram and dismal capitulation.

    I've never seen one.
I genuinely don't understand the Elvises of this world.
Makes you wonder if they take the same gargantuan level of negativity in to their lives.
Must be a terrible way to go through life.

Nothing to do with me, but I guess I should pass on my thanks to the guys at the club who made all this happen.
My youngest son turned 16 this week and my ex wife and her new boyfriend organised hospitality for my two sons to mark the event and they had a fantastic time. Before the match they took my son down to the dressing room where he met Danny Lennon, who he insists is now an absolute legend, and he met most of the team. Pictures of him with Paul McGowan, Stephen Thompson, Sean Kelly, Jim Goodwin and John McGinn are polluting my Facebook timeline at the moment as he keeps on uploading them.
I've got my issues with people at the club, and I certainly hate my ex wife, but where my boys are concerned all I care about is that they are happy, and everyone at St Mirren made them very happy yesterday.
    Thanks.

My third and final post on the forum.
We are all St Mirren fans and want the club to prosper.
We all have different views on how this can be achieved, and reading the opinions of fans that differ from mine are interesting, entertaining and in some instances informative.
But what is none of the above are the bullying tactics of a few individuals who seem to think that their opinions are the only views that matter and others should be ridiculed.
It's admirable to see fans who can express theirs opinions, justify their views and offer a defence of these without lowering themselves to slagging people off and offering veiled threats.
I know that I'll probably be criticised for this post, but narrow minded people who resort to the last bastion of the uneducated only stifle diversity and open discussion.

I love golf. I don't hit the ball as far as I used to but that is just part of getting older and decrepit. That said I still hit the ball further than most lady golfer's and despite my age worn face I am better looking than any of them. The fact is that lady golfer's tend to be a bunch of right ugly bastards.
What has any of this to do with our current manager's immediate future?
Nothing but I am really getting bored of this now. Daniel Lennon should have been sent packing months ago and now our premier league status will be put under threat as a result. If I did not have a season ticket I probably wouldn't go myself on Saturday as I am fair scunnered, fair scunnered indeed.

Magennis is no Suarez but I thought he was a breath of fresh air yesterday - pacey, direct and hungry for the ball. His touch ain't great (or his shooting!) but he will hopefully ease the weight of expectation from Thommo and add some competition for places (and he's definitely a better option than Reilly, for now...).
Also think the recent criticism of McGowan has been over the top - the guy has went a bit off the boil but we need to remember that he has largely been consistent (and started most games) for the last 2/3 seasons and given 100% - he's still a talented player and needs our support. He will come good.

First half was the usual very poor fare we are used to, but second half was great have had discussions with fellow diehards who weren't nearly as impressed as I was. Frustatingly i don't think we should be where we are but we will need to churn out another few like that. For the record mcgennis I gave stick too after the Celtic game I thought was excellent 2day worked his bawz off!

I'll be at the game but I cannot see us getting anything from it. I have staunchly stood by Danny but I can no longer do so. At the very least the players don't seem to be playing for him. If they really backed the manager I'm sure we would see more from them. (McGinn aside but I think that's just in John's natural game). I would expect to see blood and guts. Fighting for every ball. That isn't what appears to be on show.
The players do need to carry some of the blame but, at the moment that's not the main point. It's paramount that we end this dismal run as I can't see this squad surviving a battle in the play offs.
Sorry Danny but I've finally joined a brigade I loathe to admit to be affiliated to. I never wanted to ask for someone to lose his job and I hope you find something else sooner rather than later but it must be time to part company.

Agree re the second challenge... Adams said in the press that tv would show whether it should have been a booking or not. It clearly shouldn't and if Adams was any sort of man he would apologise... ... BUT... ...
Jim leading with his arm (AGAIN) for the first one gives Adams a perfect get out of jail free card... he just deflects attention to that one... which was inexcusable and worthy of a card!
I fear Jim will be retrospectively punished for that one, which was just as bad as the one against Armstrong.
Sorry Jim... I have defended you to the hilt and love a "hard but fair" type of player... but these fore-arm smashes have given others a legitimate grievance and you have effectively singled yourself out for special attention with them.

Hand on heart? In a playoff I think it would be 50/50 if we won it or blew it. I am not confident this manager and a great part of this team have the steel that Gus MacPherson's sides mustered when the shite was zooming towards the fan.
Simple as that. I think we would have better quality players than any playoff opposition, but do we have the bottle?

There shouldn't be any protest against the manager, it's totally undignified and he deserves better. He needs to go but this will be decided by the board internally. This thread should be shut down.

I would feel a bit more confident about this if we didn't have several players on loan who inevitably don't have the investment in the club that the likes of Thompson, McGinn, McGowan and McAusland might have. Newton, Campbell, McGennis, Djemba Djemba - Will they be up for the shitfests between now and the end of the season?
When we were teetering on the brink towards the end of our first season back up, we relied on Broadfoot to lead the charge. He demonstrated loyalty and commitment despite having signed a PCA with Rangers. I don't think we have many Broadfoot and Shuggie type characters in the current squad. I think we are very deep in the shite.

Acht, f**k it, some context ladies.........
This is all about our continued inability to make in roads in this league. Danny is just the latest to try and age prematurely to crack this seemingly insurmountable obstacle for ST Mirren.
ICT, Ross CO, The Fakes, even the crumbling Killie seem to manage some nous and progress, us, we lamentably claw , just about and stay in the SPFL up till now.
It ain't pretty , it ain't pleasant and it leads to excessive comfort drinking on my part, but I genuinely just don't understand our continued lack of resolve and inability to lord it over fellow diddy clubs.
We seem to be perennial bottom feeders..........I think worryingly, this season, that the media establishment and our own core of fans are resolving to the reality that we are potentially taking a drop. Ffsake even Per tick can grab Lyle taylor on loan. Wtf ??? He was a player we all saw last season, yet , not available to us ???
I think our core management infrastructure is starved of resource and guile, scouting wise we wing it, team wise, well, it's a shambles, the club is for sale, a sorry state for long suffering Buddies.
Someone buy us and end this cycle of persistent underachievement.
It was nice of the Rugby chaps to produce a late and spirited performance today, well done, puts a smile on a terrible day for this SMFC supporter.

You had to mention Newton didn't you! Jeez, I'm angry enough without being reminded that he starts EVERY week, despite not having played well for 6 months. What a joke. Our club is a joke, the board are gutless bastards, the manager completely out of his depth and the players apathetic. Can someone collectively pick up our beloved club and shake the f**k out of it?

I'm really sad at the current state of affairs. In the space of a year we have went from league cup glory to now losing every week. 8 losses from ten games in 2014. I'm not meaning to be critical I don't wAnt an argument but finally now we have hit rock bottom. Enough is enough

Tbh your post above sums up our continued status in the spl ......it could be applied to any season over the last seven or so years. We cannae progress...........it's endless frustration and too often turgid lame performances sprinkled with the odd gem. Three wins in a row for me would be a real sign , hell now I' d settle for two in a row, but, we are so poor I honestly would be prepared to bet we will not win back to back league games this season, a truly terrible state of affairs.

Well, that was a bit pish.
I'm not quite sure why we didn't do better - it was a strange one. I don't think anyone in the stripes played particularly poorly, yet we offered hee haw as a unit. Aberdeen were crap, too. We had the beating of them today, but failed to create enough in the way of genuine chances.
We need to win matches like that one this afternoon. We're coasting to the end of the season as if there isn't a very real risk of us finishing in the play-off spot. Something is amiss. I wouldn't blame Danny for much today. We just lacked any real drive and incisive play.

The thing that really gets to me is the lack of passion - from anyone. When was the last time a Saints player or manager showed some emotion? Probably Steven Thompson in celebrating the second goal against Hearts in the cup final. Since then - and even before then - we've shown next to no desire or passion to win football games and take St Mirren to the highest level we can go.
That's not necessarily a criticism of the players because as an employee, you have to be given an incentive to go out and produce the best you can with passion and desire. We have some very good players in our squad and they're playing at a level which is far from their best.
I would run through brick walls covered in fire and smashed glass for St Mirren. Our players need to be insipid to that level. They're so far off it right now and we need someone to change that. They don't necessarily have to know the club, but they have to know what it means to pay for a football club and what it means to the fans - the people who keep that football club going.
Danny Lennon isn't that man. I don't know who is, but it's about time the board found him. I'm not asking for the world, simply for my team to actually have a go at winning football matches and giving their all in doing it.
