  1. IMO the best footballing side I watched on a Love Street European evening was Mechelin. A totally unheralded Belgian side that we expected to beat came to Paisley and utterly outplayed a decent St Mirren side. Then they went on to win the tournament that year.
  2. I am genuinely taken aback by the level of negativity being posted here by quite a few of our regular contributors, several of whom I would normally exclude from my list of nutters or "the usual suspects" for over-reaction and knicker-wetting. Last season was a total disaster in every conceivable way fron top to bottom. Our start point for this season is a bottom-up re-build - umpteen of last year's players dumped or walked away, youth being offered a chance, a new man in charge, etc, etc. Surely it is obvious to everyone that our early season matches would be trial & error, young players having to learn from their mistakes, and a mix of good / bad / awful new signings. It will take time for things to gel and with Rangers and Hibs in our league season 2015/16 has to be a write-off in terms of table-topping expectations. Top five at the end of the season is (IMO) acceptable, escaping a second successive relegation is our minimum requirement. Our BoD have brought in Ian Murray as a new broom with a remit to build something out of nothing. Mistakes are inevitable, FFS give the man a chance.
  3. Our new manager deserves to be given some time to develop his squad, his style of play, etc. The fans shouting "bring back Danny" in section W2 today were (I hope) joking. Or fannies. But I agree with previous posters that too many of our young hopefuls are too easily brushed aside by experienced, physically stronger opponents. IMO Goodwin should have started for us today. When Naismith had to go off Goodwin was the obvious substitute to steady the defence. The fact that Ian Murray chose to replace the injured Naismith with another young defender lacking in top-team experience instead of Jim Goodwin smacks of a personal agenda against our former captain. At best tactically naive IMO, undoubtedly a poor decision for the balance of the team, and a worrying sign regarding Murray's priorities. As I said, Murray deserves his chance to settle into his new job and he can do without plonkers in the crowd yelling insults, but maybe he needs to be more mature and avoid creating vendettas for the overall benefit of our team performances.
  4. Ah Arthur Daley - to quote the legend, the world was his lobster. R.I.P George.
  5. Jings, that is seriously fat. A short arse and a lard arse, not promising.
  6. I only understand metric weights and measures.
  7. How tall is he? We have quite a few short arses in our squad, some decent height required IMO.
  8. Agnew was the clear MOM for us today, and also Baird looked very solid. The result represents a decent start to Murray's time in charge but I won't get overexcited about our overall team performance bearing in mind the standard of the opposition. Also he seems to be building a squad of lightweights and short arses that could be ill-equipped for the physicality of the Championship. Sadly Thompson looked even slower and less alert than before, a spent force I fear.
  9. Happy birthday Willie R. You're catching up on us auld yins.
  10. The orange muppets will be traipsing through Glasgow city centre today, no doubt creating a din with their flutes and drums. Looking ridiculous and getting very wet, I hope. If so, well worth celebrating.
  11. Delaney's donkey no more. R.I.P. Val.
  12. I thought this was a thread about hill walking.
  13. This is surely nothing more than a straightforward commercial arrangement. As far as I am concerned, if the price is right, we should fill our boots. As has been posted a few times already, this signage is a blight on our stadium for a couple of weeks only, after which it will be removed and the final outcome will be that St Mirren will have gained financially.
  14. As the man once said, "if it's culture you want go to the pictures". http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-33269465
  15. I wonder if any of you witnessed this belter. Poor old Pearce suffered a collossal "foot in mouth" moment last night commenting on the England v Norway women's world cup match live on BBC3 tv. With about an hour played, England had just gone 0-1 down and the Norwegians were piling on the pressure trying to kill the game. Pearce was critical of England's defending. "The cracks are beginning to show". I had a close look but I couldn't spot any. England eventually won 2-1.
  16. Let's wait and see. My first impression is that one of the promising products of our youth system is being denied his opportunity of a first team breakthrough.
  17. Didn't Ronnie Deila slag off the quality of pitches in Scotland last season immediately after his mob played at St Mirren Park. So Celtic's pitch is so poor it needs to be relaid. And Celtic choose St Mirren Park to play their pre-season show games while they replace their tatty field. Ironic ?
  18. Did she give you a decent tip on top of the normal fare ?
  19. Should we trust someone who can't spell Foxbar ?
  20. Ray McKinnon ? Surprising choice !! Pay compensation ? Aye right !! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32820581
  21. Noooooooooooooo !!! We need a clearout from the top downwards. Yesterday's men are responsible for us being relegated. The rot may have started with Tommy Craig in charge but Gary Teale's leadership failed to reverse the slide. Rebuild for the future with a whole new management team who can take over without any 'baggage'.
  22. The Labour Party have learned nothing from the fiasco of appointing Michael Foot as their leader 35 years ago. Foot was unelectable as the UK's prime minister, but despite the lessons of history the Labour Party's undemocratic membership voting system allowed the trades unions to appoint Ed Miliband, another unelectable wally whom the nation's voters couldn't take seriously. And who in the Labour ranks thought it would be a good idea to boost their electoral chances by sending up from down south a cross-dressing comedian (allegedly), who paraded alongside the ultra-charismatic Jim Murphy in Glasgow city centre looking like a 30 bob tart ? No wonder it has been a shoo-in for the SNP.
