  1. No wonder Mike Ashley is so rich if this thread sums up the quality of the competition to Sports Direct. Maybe JD will go the way of JJB before long and, who knows, maybe one day soon the fans will be able to buy replica kit in the shop at the ground. Perish the thought.
  2. There's a theatre production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August about the fire as it's the 30th anniversary. I reckon handing over a gift be it a Quaich or something similar would be a nice touch and most likely appreciated by Bradford City FC and their fans. https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=edfringe.com#q=The%2056
  3. Yep, a modern day Jackie Copland required to keep the youngsters right or even a Tommy the 'tache Turner or Andy Millen type figure to lead at the back.
  4. Well, if it's not the first league game then next most likely looks like 12th December at Dumbarton. That's quite a while to hold your anticipation.....
  5. BetVictor have an offer for new and existing customers of 3/1 on Chelsea to win a trophy in 2015/16, including the Community Shield! Only downsides are that the offer is for a limited period and maximum bet is £10. Still, seems like an almost guaranteed £30 profit. http://www.betvictor.com/sports/en/chelsea
  6. The BBC website reports he's played almost 600 games scoring 141 goals or a goal every 4 games or thereabouts. The official website reports he's played 146 games for us scoring 52 goals or a goal every 3 games or thereabouts. Splendid. Getting more prolific with age?
  7. A few thoughts: In years gone by, watching in the winter was helped by standing huddled together on a covered terrace whereas sitting on a plastic seat on a Wednesday night in January is like taking your tv and a seat outside to watch Coronation St in the garden - you just wouldn't do it. Being more sensible in calling off games due to the weather forecast would help e.g. if the wind is forecast above a certain speed (remember Dundee Utd at home a few years ago when police were advising against unnecessary travel) or the temperature is below a certain level. Older fans and youngsters are less likely to turn up when the weather is poor. As others have stated above 7 games scheduled in January 2015 was laughable. Playing through June and July offers up more chance of playing midweek games that might entice extra folk along, for instance tonight would have been ideal for a game. Missing a game or two due to holidays could be offset by those more inclined by turn up when not risking hypothermia. Playing in the summer means better quality pitches, better conditions for the players when training so in theory at least better football to watch. If someone invented football today and decided to start a league wouldn't they schedule the games during the best weather? Perhaps we should think about the South American model where they have a Summer Championship and Winter Championship? Imagine next season split into 2 with the first two sets of fixtures comprising one championship while the second set of 2 fixtures would start with everyone on 0 points and playing a second championship. There could then be play-offs at then to decide promotion, relegation, league titles etc. There's obviously loads of potential drawbacks but it's worth considering as something completely different. Maybe the thing to keep in mind above all else is that if the quality of the football on the pitch is good enough people will turn up to watch regardless of the month. If Real Madrid played Barcelona at our ground in January, March, June, August or December the ground would be full regardless.
  8. Wouldn't that involve a ticket scramble as the away allocation is likely to be about 800 given their stand holds 2000 and we've never played a league game there? Start the season with a row about who gets first dibs on the tickets, non-season ticket holders feeling hard done by etc. Plus ca change as they say in Seedhill....
  9. Just looked on Oddschecker: Best prices to win the league, 1/3 the odds to finish in top 2 Q.o.S 25/1 Falkirk 28/1 Bigger the rest. Our best price is a miserable 10/3 with the bookies that have priced up the league so far.
  10. We were 33/1 with Hills after pummelling Ayr Utd 1-1 in the opening game of the season; I remember seeing 33s on the board in the Hills shop outside Glasgow Central station and thinking it must be a mistake. Dare say the odds were cut after we pumped Raith 6-0 in Kirkcaldy in the second game.
  11. Didn't do too badly in the late 70s & early 80's with black shorts as part of the Umbro strips and then Adidas one that followed.
  12. First order of business for the new manager is to get rid of the dead wood from last season i.e. Wylde, Arquin etc and then tell Teale, Thompson and Goodwin to get on their bikes too. New broom, clear the decks.
  13. An over-rated, over-hyped non-entity. Not fit to lace Terry McDermott's boots.
  14. I see from the details on Twitter the Bheggars had Mulgrew, Borrigter and Rogic playing for them. Any win against that shower is a good result.
  15. Is Paul Mathers still knocking about? He used to come on the pitch at half time and hoof aimless balls in the general direction of the sub goalie but hasn't been seen for a while. I always thought the idea of having a goalie coach was to improve the 'keeper's performance, work on his weaknesses and such like. Can't say I've noticed any improvement in any of the goalies while Mathers has been around.
  16. Artificial surface = artificial football. No thanks.
  17. Using the Charlie Telfer transfer as an example the rate seems to be £20k per year of development as he was at Reinjurs for 10 years and the fee Dundee Utd were told to pay was £200k. John McGinn has been with us since age 7 so that would work out at about £240k or £250 (is he 19 or 20?) unless there are other criteria used too.
  18. I too found that a very pleasing result. Unfortunately I think they've too many points to be involved in a battle to avoid the 4th tier relegation play-off spot. Shame.
  19. They also got rid of Nathan Ecclestone and a left back that was on loan, can't remember his name, that were supposedly involved in some way in being up to no good with McMillan.
  20. The break will do his injury good, however the next game on the artificial pitch at Rugby Park may not be ideal if it's not 100% healed.
  21. Note to Commercial Dept - there is a Scotland international match with a 5pm kick off at Hampden on Sunday 29th March. Must be worth trying the same again for the Tartan Army/Tartan Clad Fannies?
  22. Motherwell played Celtic at Fir Park on a Friday night last season. How many seats were broken, not to mention the metal brackets that hold the seats in place? Was it about £10,000 worth of damage? The security bloke at Dens Park said the scene was like something out of the 70's when they played Dundee on Boxing Day a few years ago with the worst behaviour he'd seen in 40-odd years. Our game with them is on Easter Friday when it's fair to assume plenty of them could well be off work (yes, some of them probably do have a job) and thus drinking all day before turning up for the game in Paisley at night. They can't be trusted to behave like normal human beings. Friday night games involving that shower are not a good idea.
  23. According to the SFA website the fourth official was Mat Northcroft who is indeed, I believe, a native of the Highlands. Just watched the highlights on the link posted on the previous page - typical of us to get a red card for that. The other way round our player doesn't fall to the ground, roll around as though he's dying and the opponent isn't even spoken to. I see the 4th official on Wednesday is the clown that sent off Thompson against Motherwell. Perhaps those in the main stand near the dugouts could offer him some words of wisdom.
