BuddieinEK
So where would you recommend for some quality scran? I had a meal at Tony Singh's new restaurant in the Alea Casino... Tasty. Despite Stu D recommending I book elsewhere, my mate and I shared six starters, two mains, a cocktail and a dessert... and every single dish was a winner. The soft shell crab in a steamed bun was worth the visit alone... Beyond perfection. Not cheap but dining tapas style doesn't have to be expensive. Tony Singh came out and chatted to us for ages... Then sent out a complimentary dish! Legend. Sorry Stuart D...but for once, your judgement was way off! Def going back.

Isle Of Bute Saint
Sounds good EK where is the Alea Casino is that the one on the waterfront : Daughter gave me and the wife a voucher at Christmas for Gamba so will probably go this trip home. Best Restaurant I have been to in many a year is The Inver in Argyle. Combinations you would not think of doing but work an absolute delight. Its in the same mould as Tom Kitchen at a fraction of the cost. This girl chef will go far.
BuddieinEK
Opposite what used to be Harry Ramsdens... Quayside. No membership or formal attire required for the restaurant. Few years since I was in Gamba but it was excellent. I'll check out the inver if I'm out that way. Cheers for the tip.

Nope...I was still buzzing from a great night and was sipping a cheeky wee Islay malt as a nightcap.

The man ruined one of my favourite places at West Linton but if the new place sees him back on form that's brilliant news.
BuddieinEK
Glad to hear it BinEK. The man ruined one of my favourite places at West Linton but if the new place sees him back on form that's brilliant news. I checked lots of reviews for the place you were talking about... Definitely split the crowd. Reading between the lines, visitors loved it...locals and regulars found the change too radical. Sounds more like a failed business venture than a bad restaurant. He's defo on the money here tho... Worth the visit for the soft shell crab alone.

pozbaird
The Honours restaurant at the Malmaison hotel near Blythswood Square for a 'treat with the missus' type of meal. Not crazy mental prices either - for a Michelin star chef place. The burger is fantastic. For a cracking breakfast in town - Cranberry in the Merchant City. Breakfast special of Scrambled egg and smoked salmon, toast, marmalade, coffee, juice... At an all-inclusive deal price. For cracking home-made soup - the Falkirk Wheel. Far from a cheap touristy haunt, the women there make their home-made soup with crusty roll. I've went there several times just for a lunch. In a similar vein.... The cafe at the Riverside Transport Museum. Again, home-made grub. Scones are the business. The fish & chips? People are travelling there just for their fish & chips. There's some left-field recommendations. As a cake and coffee lover, no point in trying to list all the great independent coffee places I like... Would be here all day. Bernie's in Bridge of Weir is up there with the best though.... An' ahm' no' jist' sayin' that. Edited January 30, 2016 by pozbaird

Herbie
Apart from eating in my own gaff, which is clearly fantastic, I have quite a few favourite places. The best eating experience I've had though is The Kitchin in Edinburgh, pube-nutted, Michelin starred, celebrity chef Tom Kitchin's place. The food is phenomenal and the service is superb. It's dear, but worth it for a special occasion.
Drew
I'm not a big foodie. Indeed, I'm generally happy if I can find somewhere with genuine options for decent vegetarian food, and where the prices aren't daft. We stayed at the Old Mill Inn in Pitlochry last weekend. The food was very good (though limited in choice for vegetarians but so it so often goes). Great service, and spotlessly clean, modern, and comfortable rooms. Highly recommended. Weather was abysmal, though (I blame Storm Cheesy!).

Have also been there as written above , would strongly recommend The Inver Argyle same sort of cooking experience as the Kitchen with a fraction of the cost , the restaurant is also set in breath taking scenery. Isle Of Bute Saint
Best seafood restaurant I have eaten at Café Fish , Tobermory on Mull make a point of visiting this at least a couple of times a year. When you see the prices outside Glasgow and Edinburgh it comes as a bit of a surprise. Another good but not better than above is Lochleven Seafood café. Another place with unbelievable scenery from the restaurant which is tucked away from everything else like The Inver. Well worth a visit. IoBS, my brother lives in Tobermory and Café Fish is indeed excellent. As you have to pass through Oban to get there, and if seafood is your thing, Eeusk, The Seafood Temple and The Waterfront Seafood Restaurant are all worth a visit.
